Part 1 of my revised version of Team Drive: A Quest for Glory and Romance is finally here. I intend to instead of creating a new story altogether, I'm simply going to go through each chapter one by one and make changes as I see fit. Don't worry, I won't be taking away anything from the story (aside from the terrible grammar and syntax that is). Anyway, enough of my rambling, on with the story!
Disclaimer: I do NOT own Pokémon or any of its characters.

Chapter 1: Let the adventure begin!
There was a small island and to the coast of this island is town that is famously known as Treasure Town, where many Pokémon lived happily. A storm that was coming and that cause everyone in town to stay awake even though they were ready to go to sleep.
So did Lily. Lily was a Chikorita; a small, young plant-like Pokémon. Light green skin, and bright ruby red eyes.
She was a real coward. Literally anything would scare the heck out of her, even if it were just a drop of water if it took her by surprise. She had a hard time talking about her problems mainly because she had no one to talk to and she just couldn't bring herself to talk about it. She desired a type of motivation, someone who could possibly help her build up courage and drive.
Every time lightning flashed or thunder clapped, she would cry out in sheer terror.
Lily lived in a bluff overlooking the sea. The bluff was called Sharpedo Bluff because it looked like a Sharpedo: a shark-like Pokemon with sharp teeth.
The next morning, Lily decided to take a walk through Treasure Town and sighed as she decided to try again at joining Wigglytuff's Guild. She didn't know why she insisted on what any bystander would see as senseless emotional masochism but she thought it would help her build up courage. That would be a tad difficult if she couldn't actually get inside the guild premises.
So she went and stood on the grate that in front of the entrance.
"Pokemon detected! Pokemon detected!" A voice squeaked, causing Lily's heart to jump in surprise. You'd think she be used to this by now given how many times she'd tried to get into the guild...
"What's the footprint?" asked a second voice gruffly.
"Aw she ran away again!" the first complained.
"It must that Lily again…" the second voice grumbled, clearly annoyed. He must have thought that she had been pulling another prank on them or something. It wouldn't be very difficult to interpret it as such...
Lily ran from the guild as fast as she could while internally kicking herself for her losing her nerve at the moment of truth.
"That was scary" she thought sadly as her steps slowed to a sedated walk and headed towards the beach.
It was a nice beach what with its white sand, calm waters while the Krabby and sometimes Kingler loved to stay on the beach in the sunshine. During the sunsets they would blow their bubbles in the air. It was a beautiful and romantic sight to see if one was into that kind of thing...
Lily looked out at the sea with her eyes sparkling at the beauty of the sight in front of her. She was so distracted at the sight that she wasn't looking where she was going and she tripped over something that lay in the sand.
"What's that?" she wondered out loud. She got up and looked at the place where she tripped and much to her surprise laid an unconscious being right before her. It was a Charmander, a fire type Pokemon.
Charmander, in her humble opinion, mostly represented a mix of a bipedal salamander along with some dinosaur characteristics. Its most notable feature was the flame that was burning at the tip of its tail. It has been said that if the flame on the tip of its tail went out it will die.
Lily stared at the Charmander in silence. Charmanders usually didn't live around here and she wasn't sure what to do; she was worried about the Charmander that didn't do anything but lie there unconscious. On the other hand, she was afraid of what might happen if she woke the creature up. Decisions decisions. What was the best thing for the young grass type to do in this situation? Come on moral compass, point her!
She decided to push her fears away for now and timidly nudged the Charmander with her paw. She retreated a few feet but the Charmander didn't stir. She tried again and this time the Charmander gave a tired groan and sluggishly stood up.
"Where… am I?" The Charmander said out loud. Judging by the tone of voice Lily knew it was a male fire type.
"So you finally woke up," Lily said shyly, surprised by her own choice of works. More like she was actually speaking to him at all…
"Oh my god!" He said, stunned. "How is it possible, a talking Pokémon? I thought Pokémon could only say their names over and over again!" the young fire type exclaimed looking at the grass type in shock and awe.
"Of course we can talk," Lily frowned, looking utterly confused about what this strange Pokémon was talking about. What kind of fantasy world did he live in? "What kind of weird Pokémon are you," she asked. Oh, like you're one to talk…
"Huh, I am NOT a Pokemon!" The Charmander denied vehemently as though Lily mortally offended him. "I'm a human!" He proclaimed proudly, puffing out his chest a little bit as though to emphasize his point while Lily stared at him like he'd gone crazy. Well given the way that he'd been acting for the better part of thirty seconds, Lily wouldn't be surprised if her guess wasn't far off from the truth…
"Really?" asked Lily tilting her head to the side and walked around him to get a better look. Or at least that's what she told herself anyway. "But in every way I look at you, you look just like a normal Charmander," she concluded. Then again, she didn't exactly know what humans looked like, having only heard of them from legends.
Charmander checked himself out in the nearby surf. Lily watched as the fire type raised a red appendage and his reflective counterpart mimicked him. He then proceeded to flail wildly with reflective counterpart imitating him perfectly. He'd then resorted to slapping himself several times while Lily had to battle her inner impulse to try to stop his self-abuse. She watched on in genuine shock and bewilderment as he let out a piercing scream.
Lily giggled at Charmander's reaction because he sounded like a little girl. "I-It's true, I've turned into a Charmander," He exclaimed, looking surprised. "But why can't I remember anything from before I became a Pokémon," Charmander wondered.
Lily expected him to run around and go crazy but got the opposite reaction when his eyes brightened and was suddenly inches from her face. She wondered vaguely as to how he'd gotten so close without her noticing.
"Awesome, I'm a Charmander now! Can I use Flamethrower too?" he asked eagerly to a completely surprised Lily.
"I'm not sure," she replied uncertainly. She rather doubted it as he didn't seem to have a whole lot of battle experience if his reaction to learning that he was a Pokémon was anything to go by…
Charmander opened his mouth and several small tendrils of fire came out, "Okay, THAT'S THE COOLEST THING EVER!" he yelled out excited that he could use such an attack.
"Who are you by the way," She finally asked him.
"Huh? Who am I?" "My name's uhhh uuuuhhh…." "That's weird, why can't I remember my own name?" He thought, straining to trying to find that illusive title that only he possessed.
"You forgot your own name?" asked Lily, looking close to laughter despite herself.
"I guess so," said Charmander as he scratched the back of his scaly head mareepishly. That must have been the price to pay for somehow being able to breathe fire… "Well anyway, my name's Lily and it's a pleasure to meet you," she smiled brightly, offering a paw to which Charmander shook quite enthusiastically. Lily couldn't help but turn a faint pink at his enthusiasm and Charmander immediately took notice.
"Why the heck are you blushing," Charmander asked, staring at her. "It's j-j-just that…" she stuttered, trying to avoid Charmander's gaze. "Hehehe… you look kind of cute when you blush like that," He said with a light snicker.
"Please…don't" she said, looking embarrassed as she felt her face get hotter? What was going on here! Why was her face feeling so warm. "Why not? It's fun," Charmander asked in a teasing manner. "Anyway, I don't know who the heck I am or where I came from in the first place," he frowned as a more serious expression overtook his scaly features.
"That's kind of weird," said Lily, the blush disappearing.
Suddenly Lily was blindsided and crashed into Charmander who had reacted quickly and caught the small grass type in an embrace. Both of them noticed a small rock with a weird pattern on it landed on the ground where the grass type had been.
The Pokémon that hit her was a mean looking Koffing. Koffing was a poison gas Pokémon at was a floating purple ball that had a pirate symbol under the face. Its partner was a Zubat. Zubat was a bat Pokemon but was blue.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here? It's the resident chicken," said Zubat, sneering at the timid grass type.
"You again!" Lily yelled with tears of pain in her eyes.
"Hey, what's that?" asked Koffing, gesturing towards the object on the ground.
"Hmmm, looks valuable; I think we should sell it," Zubat declared as he immediately snatched into his grasp. Charmander wondered vaguely how either of them would be able to hold onto the object and get away because as far as he knew, neither of them had any sort of real appendages. He was pretty sure you couldn't carry anything with wings while Koffing was just a floating ball...
"Hey give that back," Charmander scowled as he entered the conflict. He hated bullies and would not stand around while a couple of lowlifes tried to trample what was left of his new friend's hope.
"Hey, looks like you finally found a boyfriend," sneered Koffing. "How much did you have to pay him to agree to even look at you?" Charmander's scowl deepened at the insult and immediately felt the need to retaliate.
"I just met him here," Lily said angrily.
"Too bad you think so lowly of her," Charmander grinned, acting on sudden inspiration. "She's super powerful and an awesome friend to have!"
All eyes seemed to lay of Charmander, seeing if what he said was even remotely accurate. It wasn't long before the two poison types roared with laughter at the proclamation. They'd believe it when they saw it, they had chortled.
"Now we'll take our leave; later chicken," smirked Zubat and they both headed for Beach Cave with Lily's seemingly valuable item.
"Ugh, there's no way that I can get my Relic Fragment back myself," she growled to herself. Who said she had to get it back all to herself. Charmander was right there and he had defended her against the biggest bullies in all of Treasure Town yet somehow passed off as decent Pokémon.
"Hey Charmander, would you help me get my Relic Fragment back from those bullies?" Chikorita asked with tears in her eyes.
"Even though I lost my memory, I still can't stand bullies," Charmander growled, his tiny claws clenched into what appeared to be a fist. "Yeah! I'll help you get your item back! Come on we better get going," he declared as they ran for Beach Cave.
As they explored the cave they fought and defeated the enemies that were inside. This made Lily feel a little bit more confident as they went further. It also helped that Charmander had gotten used to battling as a Pokémon so he was more than sharing his load of the work. The duo finally made it to the pit of the cave and they found Zubat and Koffing floating there. Charmander assumed that they were trying to find a way to go further but alas, the rest of the path was made mostly of water. Then again, that really shouldn't have been able to stop them… Charmander wouldn't understand how they thought. That's assuming that they do think…
"About time you made a move to get it back," they both taunted.
"That's enough," Charmander declared as he fired an ember at Zubat. Zubat who was surprised by the attack got hit and was a direct hit but did not do enough damage to knock out the poison flying type.
Lily, deciding to be brave for once, fired her razor leaf at Koffing. Unfortunately for her, it didn't do as much damage so she followed with a tackle while Koffing was stunned from her moment of true bravery.
Zubat immediately retaliated with a supersonic attack which had with its high pitched frequencies messed with Charmander's head and caused him to stumble every which way.
Lily retaliated with a razor leaf at Zubat who had blown it back with a hard flap of his wings.
"You're going to have to do better than that if you want to get your so called treasure back, girlie!" Zubat taunted.
Unfortunately for him, Charmander had recovered from his confusion and had immediately scratched at the flying type's face, causing the eyeless Pokémon to yelp in pain but Charmander would not relent as he kept scratching away at the now unfortunately bat Pokémon.
"Come on boys," Charmander whispered as he struck a pose. "I know you want me so come and get me." Lily stared at Charmander's bravado and the many interpretations that it entailed.
Lily had to stifle her giggles as she watched Zubat and Koffing began crashing heads to see who would pursue Charmander.
Unfortunately for them, Charmander had made that decision for them: he'd had that planned from the very beginning. What a genius tactician. With that thought in mind, he lunged onto Koffing's back as Koffing made to shoot Lily while her back was turned.
Charmander had immediately aimed the sludge attack at Zubat who yelped in response and caused the fighting to escalate.
The grass and fire types watched on with thinly veiled amusement as the two poison types inadvertently knocked each other out in an argument of who'd get to try to catch the fire type off guard.
"We did it," Lily cheered as she ran to grab the Relic Fragment out of Koffing possession.
"Come on, let's get out of here," Charmander said to the clearly happy grass type.
"OK," she agreed and they left the cave, leaving the unfortunate poison types to their forced nap and headed back to the beach.
"Charmander, thanks so much for helping me get my Relic Fragment back; it's my personal treasure," she said when they returned to the beach.
She showed him her special treasure. "I know it may look like a piece of junk but look at inscription on it," she pointed it out to him. "I think that it has some important meaning to it and that's why I want to form an exploration team with someone but I've been too scared to register…" Lily trailed off, clearly disappointed by her lack of courage.
Charmander had a feeling about where this was going to go and his suspicions were confirmed when Lily popped the question: "Charmander, would you be willing to…form an exploration team with me?"
"Huh! I'm being recruited to an exploration team out of the blue," he thought to himself. "Then again I don't really have anything to lose by doing this, and I don't think that Lily is trying to trick me and I don't have anywhere else to go," he thought to himself. "But it can't hurt to be sure…"
"You're not going to try to use me for some ulterior motive, are you?" Charmander asked warily. He wanted to believe that Lily was a genuinely friendly Pokémon but wanted get a clearer impression.
"I can see why you might be suspicious," said Lily, "I mean, you're being asked to join a team right after waking up and from what I've seen…you probably don't know what I'm talking about…" No, Charmander could only guess what an exploration team did…
Lily had gone on to explain her dreams about finding the truth about what her relic fragment's purpose truly was and needless to say, Charmander had been genuinely moved by her monologue to be convinced that joining her quest would be the best path for him.
"I- I want to find out who I was before I lost my memories so yeah, I'll join you're exploration team Lily," Charmander grinned broadly.
"Really? You will? Yay, Oh thank you so much," said Lily gratefully as she heaved a sigh of relief.
"Come on," Charmander said excitedly and ran off towards the guild then realizing that he didn't know where it was, asked Lily who faceplanted into the sand before leading him towards the guild.
I hope you like my first chapter rewrite. Please read and review. It'll give me an incentive to keep this story alive. Yes, Chikorita has an actual name now. It hadn't occurred to me to give her one since I had never thought to name my partner in my original playthrough of the game but there you go. I hope you all liked it at least a little bit and let me know what kind of changes you might like to see during the course of the story.
Just for future reference: Lily = Chikorita.
