Two crime scene investigators from the Miami-Dade Police Department arrived at the scene of the crime. Their boss, Lt. Horatio Caine, was already walking through the residence with the responding homicide detective. "Eric, Speed, prepare yourself before coming in here," Horatio Caine said meeting them just outside the front door. Crime Scene Investigators, Eric Delko and Tim 'Speed' Speedle looked at their boss then one another as if saying, let's do this. Scenes like these weren't new them.

Blackout drapes shielded every window in the victim's house. It felt dark and cold. Eric and Speed took in the surroundings of the large living room. Speed looked down at the dead man then at their Medical Examiner, Dr. Alexx Woods; Horatio walked in the room.

"Alexx, do we have an idea on cause of death?" Horatio asked.

"Well, just by looking at him he's got ligature marks around his neck, bruising on his stomach and chest area. I'll no more after the post," Alexx said feeling for any identification. "No ID, Horatio, he's a John Doe. I'll collect any trace and DNA evidence back at the lab."

"Okay. Thank you, Alexx," Horatio said. Alexx motioned for the body haulers to take John Doe away. "You two know the drill. Find me when you have something."

"This place creeps me out," Eric said looking around the room.

Speed half laughed. "No, what creeps you out is commitment. When is the last time you were in a relationship that actually lasted two months?"

Eric smirked. "When was the last time you had a girlfriend?"

"Last week but I ended it," Speed stated photographing some torn pieces of fabric.

"What happened?" Eric asked intrigued.

After placing the piece of fabric in a clear evidence bag, Speed looked up and Eric. "We weren't a good fit." He placed the bag in his kit and stood up. "I'll be right back. I have to go grab some evidence boxes since someone forgot, because he was too busy staring at the woman a crossed the street."

"Shut up. She was hot," Eric chuckled. He could hear Speed laughing as he walked outside.

A couple blocks down, Speed spotted a black and tan German shepherd running loose. He figured the owner was nearby so he turned to grab some evidence boxes.

The German shepherd spotted Speed standing next to the Hummer. The dog picked up his pace, as he got closer to him. The dog let out a loud bark. Speed jumped.

Speed looked down. The German shepherd was sitting next to him on the sidewalk. Speed stared back. The German shepherd lifted his right paw up as if he wanted to shake his hand. Speed set the evidence boxes on the ground, and bent down to the dog's level.

"Hi, little dude. Do you have a name?" he asked looking for a collar and dog tags. He spotted them when the sun hit the silver tags. He saw the dogs name was Rocky, and that he was well loved. Rocky had a tag on it that read, 'I am loved'. Speed looked up when he heard a woman's voice shouting Rocky's name.

"ROCKY!" the woman shouted. "Rocky, come here boy!"

Speed looked down at Rocky. "Looks like someone is looking for you. You better go to her." Rocky sat there staring at him. Taking his eyes off Rocky, he saw the woman getting closer. She was wearing business attire. She had long dark brown hair that was parted on the side. The woman must have been looking for her dog for a while, because she had her high heels in her hand instead of on her feet.

With just under a block to go, the woman spotted her dog sitting next to a man by his vehicle. As she got closer she could make out his face. He had dark hair and a scruffy face. She thought he was cute.

"Rocky, come here boy, please. Mommy needs to go to work. I'm late now," she said catching her breath.

"I take it this is your dog?" Speed asked pointing to Rocky. Rocky's owner was beautiful. She had long dark brown hair, a pretty smile, and gorgeous hazel green eyes.

"Yes, he his. I'm sorry if he was bothering you. He's never done this before. I don't know what got into him," the woman began to explain.

"It's not a problem Miss…" Speed trailed off.

"Oh! Lauren, Lauren Rafalski and you are?" She held out her hand for him to shake.

"Tim Speedle." He gladly shook her hand.

Lauren noticed his police badge. "You're one of the investigators working for Lt. Caine aren't you?" Speed nodded. "I see you guys in the news. You do great work, and since you found my dog that puts you tops in my book." Lauren took Rocky's leash and latched it onto his collar. "I need to go. I'm like a half an hour late for work. It was nice meeting you, Officer Speedle."

"It was nice to meet you to, Lauren." Lauren turned to walk away, but quickly glanced back at Speed. She smiled at him, and he returned it. They hoped they would see each other again.

Back up in the house, Eric wondered what was taking his partner so long. He looked out the window, and saw Speed talking to a woman. "So, Speed who was that cute lady out there?" Eric asked as Speed walked back into the house with the evidence boxes.

"Delko, she lost her dog. He stopped, and sat down next to me. I waited for her to come get him. I didn't want him to run away. She was already late for work," Speed explained.

"Sure Speed. I saw you checking her over." Eric grinned his Delko grin.

"Whatever let's just get this scene processed so we can get back to the lab and solve the case." Eric decided to let it go, and get back to work.
