A/N: One of the drabble plot bunnies that you are dubious of, but one you really can't ignore. I hope it isn't that bad. Major spoilers for recent chapters.
"Let's continue as if you were Hokage, Kakashi-sempai,"
"Place recon teams on the borders of Fire Country, but only put enough that they won't be suspected by the untrained eye, and if possible the trained eye too," Kakashi instructed.
"Yes sir!" a Jounin blurred off.
Kakashi sighed irritably as he slumped down in his chair. He was still in his Jounin uniform – but he saw that that was soon to change, as yet another helper brought the familiar red and white robes – with the almost too familiar hat on top.
"Hokage-sama?" It still took a moment for Kakashi to realise that he was being addressed - his mind was on something else.
"Oh my god, Sensei, you're in the running?!" A youthful voice shrieked.
Kakashi's eyebrow twitched. "Shut up, Obito. Anyone in the running could still be de-selected at any stage,"
"You shut up, Kakashi. Sensei's awesome! He should so be Hokage, right Rin?" Rin smiled hesitantly, indicating her approval. Minato grinned sheepishly.
"So, yeah, that's why I have to leave training early, guys, okay?"
"How come? Are they electing already?" Kakashi asked evenly.
"No, they're measuring Hokage robes," he accidentally let slip. This time Kakashi noticeably staggered backward in surprise.
"So you are Hokage!" Rin delightedly said. Minato did a 'shh' motion as Obito leapt in the air for joy.
"Actually, so long as we keep quiet, you can come as well! Try the stuff on …"
Obito pounced on the offer before Kakashi had time to think of a response.

"Waaay too big," Obito complained, struggling to balance the hat on his head.
"There's strings here, you know," Kakashi said coolly. Obito hotly tied them up as Minato chuckled.
He posed for a bit as Rin dutifully took pictures – Minato had already been measured, but he had persuaded the dress maker to let his team try the robes on. Obito soon took off the hat and robes and gallantly handed it to Rin. She shook her head demurely, but he soon practically shoved them on her as she blushed.
It was his turn now to take pictures, and he mock-playfully did so, while Rin finally smiled.
"What about you, Kakashi?"
He looked back, with a bit of a distant look in his eyes. Minato recognised the slightly defensive stance that indicated that he was remembering certain things.
Minato had only just remembered that Sakumo Hatake used to be in the running for a possible Fourth Hokage, and mentally kicked himself for bringing his orphaned son here.
"We've run out of time, I'm afraid. Maybe another day?" he grinned again, patting Obito on the head uncomfortably.
Obito pouted. "Not like it matters anyway. I don't want you on my mantelpiece,"
"Charmed," Kakashi replied. "I'll return the same honour to you,"
"But of course Rin can go on it any day…" Rin spluttered and lightly whacked him on the head.
"Remember the mission tomorrow. And don't be late, Obito," Kakashi snidely remarked.
"What is the mission, by the way?" Obito asked after flipping his finger to his team mate.
"Top Secret. But it involves a bridge," Obito rolled his eyes at his sensei's remark.
"No, I'll be fine," Kakashi curtly said, pushing away his Hokage uniform.
"You have to wear it, Kakashi-sensei," Naruto said dejectedly. "You're not really Hokage without it!"
"That's fine with me," he murmured, spinning his chair around to look out at the village. He sighed with more regret, remembering some of the pictures that he had burnt some ten years ago.
It was his village now.
