It was all Bones could do not to go over there and bodily haul Jim away. The way that the ambassador stared at his captain was predatory, and Bones didn't like it one bit. Which was why felt no guilt for what he proceeded to do.
He grinned as he watched the ambassador's expression turn dreamy as he caught sight of one of the Ensigns over Jim's shoulder. His grip tightened on the crossbow as he slid it back behind his back.
Jim looked visibly started, before it transformed into a frown. Eyes searched the room before they locked with Cupid's triumphant ones.
"What did you do?!" he hissed as he reached Bones side.
Bones pasted on his finest expression of innocence and looked at Jim. "What are you talking about?"
"You know what I'm talking about. Ambassador Jerins? He just declared his undying love for Ensign Langly!"
He bit back a snicker, completely ignoring the way that his lover glared. "You can't stop true love, Jim."
"She's married."
Shit. He had forgotten.
Jim had apparently caught the look of guilt that appeared on his face before he could cover it up. "I knew it."
"I'm Cupid! It's my job to make people fall in love."
The expression on Jim's face conveyed that he didn't believe Bones protestation a bit. "Bones…"
Bones crossed his arms. "He wanted you." He wasn't pouting. Not a bit. "And you were encouraging him."
So that's what this was about. "It's part of the job, Bones. I have to play nice."
"I know you do and I understand that. It's just…" he trailed off, licking his bottom lip. "Your mine. Only mine. And the way he was looking at you… he's lucky I didn't do worse."
Rolling his eyes, Jim frowned. "How much worse could you have done?"
"Well," Cupid looked thoughtful. "Spock was standing beside you."
Jim blinked, looking completely incredulous, then horrified, and then burst out laughing. Bones grinned as well.
"I won't lose you." Bones slipped his arms around Jim's waist.
A sigh escaped Jim and he leaned up and pressed his lips against his Cupid in a chaste kiss. "You still have to fix this, Bones."
"I know." He buried his face in Jim's neck, letting out a pleased noise when a hand threaded itself in his hair. "I'll do it first thing tomorrow."
"Why not tonight?"
"I have something else I have to do tonight. And a man does have to have his priorities."
"Like what?" The god moved up and whispered something in his ear that caused Jim to flush slightly and start to squirm. The arms around his waist tightened and he felt himself being pulled up against Bones chest. "Okay, tomorrow then."
