Chapter 5: Future Zero gets answers
Kaien opened the doors to his office, and walked inside. Walking towards his desk, he motioned for Kaname to set Yuuki down on the couch that was nearest to his wooden desk.
"Now, if you two would sit down and please explain." Kaien commanded, sitting down on his office chair. He analyzed the two as he crossed his arms and waited for them to speak up.
Zero and Kaname both exchanged glances before sitting down on the couch opposite to the one Yuuki was lying on. Zero began to feel his heart quicken, and his face was still wet with his tears from before. Kaname crossed his legs, and stared at the floor, avoiding Zero and Kaien's gaze.
Zero was the first one to break the silence. "Daddy, Kaname hurt me." Zero began, his lips quivering. "He's acting like we were never lovers." Zero said, his whole body shaking. He needed comfort, he was breaking. Looking back up at Kaien, he decided to move towards him. He sluggishly walked up to Kaien, wrapped his hands around Kaien's body and buried his head into his stiff shoulders.
Kaname stared at Zero's awkward act in disbelief and Kaien could feel himself tensing from the sudden action. However, Kaien could feel an overwhelming happiness surround him. Zero had never once called him 'Daddy' before, no matter how much Kaien had tried to get him to in the past. Ever since he adopted Zero, he would ask him to call him 'Daddy' but all he would get in return was a hit across the head. Kaien found himself returning Zero's affectionate hug.
"There there, son. Daddy's got you!" Kaien said, rubbing Zero's silver hair.
Kaname rolled his eyes and shot a glare at the old man. "Kaien! You're supposed to be on my side here." Kaname complained. "Besides, don't you find it weird how Zero is all of a sudden being your perfect little son?" Kaname added.
Kaien pondered on Kaname's words for a few moments before nodding. No matter how much Kaien loved that Zero was being kind towards him, it didn't make sense. Something was definitely off here. Big time.
"Zero, he's right." Kaien said, releasing Zero from his arms. "Are you trying to make fun of me?" Kaien's eyes flashed with sadness.
Zero shook his head. "No, of course not." Zero responded. "You guys are confusing me. Why are you guys acting so weird?" Zero let his face fall in his hands.
"Acting weird? Zero, you're the only weird one here." Kaname spat.
"I'm not weird! Why are you being so mean towards me? I'm your boyfriend!" Zero yelled, his sadness turning into anger.
Kaien froze. Boyfriend? Who was his boyfriend? Zero? There was no way. "Zero, this is not funny anymore. Why are you saying you are Kaname's boyfriend?" Kaien said, concerned with Zero's actions. He placed a hand on Zero's head to make sure he wasn't feverish.
"Yeah, seriously." Kaname added, agreeing with Kaien.
Zero stared at them and realized how serious they both were. "Kaname and I have been dating for two years…." Zero trailed off, his tears consuming him once more. He began to wipe his eyes with the back of his hand and hiccups began to form. Kaname stared at Zero's vulnerable form and for a spilt second, he actually felt bad for the ex-hunter. He could feel his heart race at Zero's innocent movements. Kaname shook his head, biting his lip with frustration.
'Zero is not cute. He's obviously trying to get to you.' Kaname convinced himself as he ran a hand through his brown locks. He had to keep it together. This was all an act. Right?
"Kaname." Kaien looked at the confused Kaname with serious eyes. "I really don't think Zero is acting." Kaien said, his arms wrapping around the sad Zero.
"He has to be! I would know if we were dating." Kaname rebutted.
Kaien stared at Kaname before looking at the crying Zero. Kaname was right, however, there was no way Zero would go this far. Especially if that meant having to cry in front of the people he hated. There had to be an explanation.
Kaien's eyes widened as a light bulb went off in his head. "Wait…..Zero, when did all these weird things start happening?" Kaien asked, letting go of Zero to look into his eyes. Zero looked at him before thinking about the question.
"Uh, about an hour ago when I woke up." Zero wiped his face once more with his hand. "E-everything was different, too. Like my room wasn't the same, it looked like it had three years ago." Zero remembered. "And, that tree we cut down three years ago happened to appear again."
"You didn't even have that room three years ago." Kaname scoffed. Zero shot Kaname a glare before returning his attention to Kaien.
"I think I know the problem…." Kaien whispered. Kaname and Zero both felt their heart beats quicken. They stared at Kaien as they waited for the answer they both craved.
"You see…..the other day, I happened to throw out a stone. A magical stone." Kaien paused as he heard a scoff.
"Magical stone?" Kaname rolled his eyes.
"Do you want an answer or not?" Kaien shot him a glare. Kaname stared at him before nodding.
"Continue." Kaname knew Kaien wasn't one to lie to him. He knew better.
"So the stone…it can time travel. I was going to use it, however, I wasn't able to so I disposed of it. Well….I threw it out my window." Kaien laughed at his stupid action. "Anyway, after I threw it away, I researched about it and found out why I wasn't able to use it. Before I continue, I have a question for you Kaname. When was the last time you saw Zero prior to this?" Kaien asked.
"I believe the last time I saw Zero was when I took Yuuki to a party. He had been furious with me. I just know he ran off." Kaname recalled as he looked at Zero.
"The last time you took Yuuki to a party was three years ago." Zero said, his eyes wide.
"This is truly a matter from the stone. Like I said before, this magical stone can make people time travel. However, usually they will time travel to alternate universes, so that could explain Zero's personality change." Kaien explained.
"But, I never time traveled."
"Yes, that may be so, but the past Zero must have. The Zero who Kaname last saw was in a vulnerable state." Kaien got up and leaned over his desk, picking up a piece of paper. "This is my research. It says here the stone can only be used when someone is in need of it, or when their life is threatened."
"How do we know his life was threatened?" Kaname asked.
"Well, we are just assuming here. But, it would make sense. Zero was upset; he may have tried to do something reckless. And while he was, he must have come across the stone" Kaien responded. Kaname thought about his words for a second. Zero was one to do things on impulse.
Kaname nodded. "So…this Zero is actually from the future?"
"Yes, that is what I have gathered."
Zero backed up, his whole body in shock. He lost feeling in his body. His feet kept moving and he found himself backing up into the wall. He leaned on the wall and breathed before looked back at Kaien. "No wonder Kaname was acting weird. He hates me." Zero whispered.
"Wait. If this Zero is from the future and what he is saying is true, then him and I are lovers…in the future?" Kaname couldn't bring himself to look at Zero.
"Well uh, I don't know. Zero, can you tell us what is going on in the future?" Kaien asked.
Zero cleared his throat. "W-Well, you and I are closer in the future." Zero started before pausing as he noticed a spark of happiness flash in Kaien's eyes. "I actually joined the Night Class under Kaname's orders. Aidou is practically my best friend, and Yuuki is actually banned from the campus." Zero glanced at Kaname who now looked white as a ghost.
"Why was Yuuki banned?" Kaname gulped, fearing the answer.
Before Zero could answer, he turned, and watched as Yuuki began to wake up from her slumber. She wiped her hair out of her face before turning towards the three of them.
"You banned her because she didn't agree with the fact that we had become lovers." Zero smirked at the timing of Yuuki waking up. As he said those words, Yuuki gasped and put her hand over her heart before fainting once more. (A/N: I couldn't help myself)
Kaname couldn't believe his ears. He hated Zero. He absolutely despised him, so why would they become lovers in the future? "I also sleep in your room most of the time." Zero added, smirking at Kaname's reaction. He was beginning to enjoy this Kaname.
"No fucking way." Kaname spat. "I would never be attracted to you in the first place." Kaname knew his preference and it was not Zero.
"I have a picture to prove it." Zero winked, digging into his pants and grabbing his wallet. He walked towards Kaname and handed him his wallet. Kaname looked at Zero before looking down at his wallet and opening it. Upon opening it, he saw a picture of him and Zero kissing inside. Nearly dropping the wallet, Kaname sat back in astonishment.
"I feel sick," Kaname said as he brought a hand to his mouth. "How do we get him out of this time?" Kaname asked, turning his attention towards Kaien whom had been watching the two.
"Well, that's all up to the stone. It must have had a reason to switch the past and the future Zero, so until the stone allows Zero to return back to the future, he will stay with you Kaname." Kaien told Kaname.
Kaname gulped, and clenched his fists. "There's no way he's staying with me."
"He's familiar with that environment because he lived with the future you. Plus, if you want him to return you should probably cooperate." Kaien warned.
Before Kaname could protest once more, Zero smiled happily. "Whatever you say, Daddy." Zero said as he began to drag Kaname out of the room.
'I hope I made the right decision.' Kaien thought as he wrote in his diary enthusiastically.
"Dear diary, Zero called me Daddy for the first time!" Kaien wrote as he punched fists up into the air totally unaware of what he did to Kaname by making Zero room with him.
