ELEVEN

-Redwood Residence, Hampshire-

April 4 2:40 PM

Franziska had a key to the house, so she and Ema entered freely. She went to look for Joy. They walked quietly up the stairs after finding an empty living room, garden, and kitchen. The hallway was dimly lit by the square windows on the free wall, and by the open door that led to Eduard's room.

'He must be just inside, reading one of his novels like usual, or he could be on a delivery.' Franziska walked across the hallway with Ema whose tension could be felt in the way she kept her eyes open, and the way she grasped the sling of her bag.

She peeked into Eduard's room. She saw Joy dusting some of his furniture, and his books. She found her handbag on a small shelf where he kept his books on floral pharmacology.

"Oh Alyssa- I mean, Franziska- How nice of you to pop in! And I see you've brought a friend along." Joy stood, turned to them, and smiled.

"Thank you so much for coming, Mr. Edgeworth." The man who claimed to be Capt. Konfu Shing walked towards Miles Edgeworth to shake his hand. He was wearing a dark suit. His hair was black and swept back, and he wore dark sunglasses.

"I'm Konfu Shing." He inclined his head good-naturedly.

"Miles Edgeworth." Miles nodded and shook his hand.

"The flight was a horrible experience for all of us." Shing sat on a park bench. Edgeworth took his seat on the park bench across.

"Please take your time. Should you ever wish to appear in court, I can help you with your statements." Miles assured him.

"How very kind of you, Mr. Edgeworth." Shing smiled.

"So, please tell me what happened during that flight Capt. Shing." Edgeworth prompted.

"Very well." Shing nodded.

-Flight 1547xx-

"The skies were clear. All conditions spoke to me of a pleasant flight that afternoon. I never thought anything could go wrong."

"Suddenly though, my co-pilot, Zack, that's Captain Zachary Kiegel, pointed the barrel of a gun at my temple. I was so scared."

"He told me not to say a word, and began to tie my wrists and ankles."

"He accused me for being a criminal of some kind... I couldn't remember well what he said, but he seemed very hostile."

"While he was talking, I wriggled free out of the ties on my wrist. The moment he turned his back away, I jumped off the chair and tackled him to the floor."

"I was able to snatch the gun from him though. He tried to wrestle it out of my hands, but shot his leg by accident during the struggle. His scream resounded around the cockpit, but I doubt anyone could hear us because the room was soundproof."

"After he was shot though I was knocked unconscious, and I found Zach gone when I came awake. I tried to land the plane as safely as I could, but I gave in to the turbulence that made me dizzy and brought me back to unconsciousness."

It seems he wishes to beat around the bush at first. There is a gaping contradictory hole in his testimony. Edgeworth prepared for another battle of wits.

HOLD IT.

"Did anyone else enter the cockpit during the incident?" Miles asked.

"No, if my memory serves me right; neither one lady nor gentleman." Shing replied.

"So what did Captain Kiegel do upon getting shot?" Miles asked.

"He used his shirt and wrapped it around his wound. It was quite a messy business since it bled all the way through. He was clutching his leg in pain, and I dare say he was acting like a weakling since he was too busy fussing over that wound to mind anything else. Shing explained.

"I see."

"After he was shot though I was knocked unconscious, and I found Zach gone when I came awake. I tried to land the plane as safely as I could, but I gave in to the turbulence that made me dizzy and brought me back to unconsciousness."

OBJECTION.

"Who knocked you unconscious?" Miles asked.

"Why, Captain Kiegel of course. Who else would?" Shing replied.

"Let me remind you that you mentioned earlier that he was acting like a weakling since he was too busy fussing over his leg. Ergo, he cannot be going through the trouble finding a blunt object, walking over to you just to knock you unconscious." Miles pointed out.

"I swear he would. He's out to kill me Mr. Edgeworth!"

"If his aim was to kill you, he would have easily done that when he pointed the gun to your head. He wouldn't keep you alive to accuse you of something you claim you have no knowledge about." Miles continued. Shing's face was placid, but there was a noticeable tic along his jaw.

"Let me ask my question once more, Captain Shing. Who knocked you unconscious?" Miles asked. Suddenly Shing's eyes widened and he smiled, remembering something.

"You're right! My sincerest apologies Mr. Edgeworth, it's because I fell unconscious. My memories are a little hazy. Come to think of it, another person entered the room." Shing quickly said.

"Then tell me about this other person, Capt. Shing." Miles narrowed his eyes in scrutiny.

-Redwood Residence, Hampshire-

April 4 3:00 PM

"Hello Joy. Ema, this is Joy Redwood, my friend Eduard's mother. Joy, this is Ema Skye, one of my friends at work." Franziska entered the room with Ema to approach the older woman.

"It is my pleasure to meet you lovely Miss." Joy smiled brightly with a twinkle in her eyes. Ema couldn't help but smile back at the woman.

"Is Eduard around? I had something important to get from him." Franziska asked.

"Oh good heavens, you just missed him. He stepped out for a delivery. What is it you need?" Joy had a brief look of worry on her face.

"My handbag from when I first came to you both. You do remember it, don't you Joy? It was a black Nine Crest bag." Franziska answered.

"Oh, you mean this bag? Curious. I always wondered why he had this in his room. Here." She handed her the black bag from the shelf. Don't worry, I'll tell him you have gotten it from me." Joy winked.

"Um, Mrs. Redwood I hate to interrupt but, I smell something burning." Ema leaned her head onto one side adorably.

"Oh my stars! My peach cobbler!" Joy dashed out of the room towards the kitchen. Franziska was about to follow when Ema gripped her wrist and smirked.

"It's our chance to investigate. Ms. von Karma?" Ema waited for orders.

"I've never been inside this room yet. We have a few minutes at most. We have to hurry." Franziska closed the door.

"What are we looking for anyway? I've already found my handbag." Franziska looked at more bookshelves.

"We can never be too careful Ms. von Karma. I've learned that while investigating crime scenes with Klav-, Mr. Gavin. That fop can make such a fuss sometimes." Ema rolled her eyes remembering her boss. Ema opened the drawer from the nightstand on the left of his bed, and gasped.

"What is it Ema?" Franziska turned to her.

"It's... It's a gun." Ema flashed a penlight on it to check the model type.

"If I recall correctly, gun laws in England are quite strict." Franziska walked over.

"But what would he be doing with a gun? Don't they run a flower shop business?" Ema asked.

"A person would normally keep a gun for self-defence." She looked at the gun closer. "Wait..." She froze.

"What is it, Ms. von Karma?" Ema asked.

"Preposterous! There has to be some mistake." Franziska shook her head in disbelief.

-Redwood Residence, Hampshire, Kitchen-

April 4 3:10 PM

"Oh at least the cobbler is not too bad." Joy sighed as she took her work out of the oven and placed it on a rack to cool.

"I wonder how Eduard is doing. That delivery address was quite far." Joy picked up her cellphone to give him a call.

*ring ring* *ring ring* *beep*

"Mother?"

"Eduard, how are things with the delivery? I accidentally left the cobbler alone but it's still edible."

"Haha. You seem peachy yourself, no pun intended."

"Your sense of humor is terrible young man. Anyway, are you coming by for tea?"

"I don't know mother, it might be a long way back. I could be late."

"Oh, and Alyssa dropped by with a friend from work. She came to get her belongings. I gave the handbag you kept in your room, you're okay with that, aren't you?"

"That handbag? Oh Alyssa shouldn't have gone through the trouble, I could have always given it to her myself... Well, tell you what mother, I think I will be on my way there now for tea. Tell Franziska and her friend to stay for tea too. I'd love for them to join us."

"Alright son. I'll see you later. I love you."

"And I love you too, mother."

Miles and Shing continued to confront each other and clear up the events of the flight weeks ago.

Shing cleared his throat to begin another testimony.

-The Other Person in the Cockpit-

"Another person entered the cockpit right after Capt. Kiegel got himself shot. She was a woman, with light blue hair and blue eyes. She pushed me away from Capt. Kiegel."

"She accused me of the same thing, being a criminal of some sort, and then pointed the gun at me."

"I was scared for my life, and the lives of the passengers on board. I contacted the police and BALPA about this hijack. They confirmed and promised to send a plane over to save us."

"I grabbed some parachutes to make an escape when the plane arrived, but she knocked me out of her whip before I could do anything else."

"The next moment, like I said earlier I came awake to find Zack gone."

"I was scared for my life, and the lives of the passengers on board. I contacted the police and BALPA about this hijack. They confirmed and promised to send a plane over to save us."

OBJECTION.

"You are saying you contacted the officials about this happening?" Miles scanned the file Ema picked out for him before they left the hospital.

"Yes, indeed, I contacted the authorities for a rescue operation." Shing nodded.

"I shall have to disagree with you."

TAKE THAT!

"These are the official records of the air traffic police and BALPA. You have not contacted these authorities long since even before the crash happened. Besides, another person made the call. It was Franziska von Karma." Miles said.

Shing bit his lip and looked away.

"Franziska von Karma. She was that woman. She murdered Zack." Shing claimed with conviction, and on a lighter note, fear.

"Tut tut. You are making a serious accusation now. You do know that you will need evidence to incriminate this person of the crime you speak of?" Miles wagged his finger at Shing confidently.

"She did I tell you. She took the parachutes from me and pushed Kiegel out of the plane before help arrived." Shing continued to weave more of his story, clearly cornered.

*ring ring* *ring ring*

"May I take this call for a second, Miles Edgeworth?" Shing held out his phone.

"Of course. We have all day, Captain Shing." No one could tell whether Miles was being sarcastic or serious.

"Mother?"

"Haha. You seem peachy yourself, no pun intended." Miles pretended not to eavesdrop, but something in the tone of his voice seemed awfully familiar.

"I don't know mother, it might be a long way back. I could be late."

"That handbag? Oh Alyssa shouldn't have gone through the trouble, I could have always given it to her myself... Well, tell you what mother, I think I will be on my way there now for tea. Tell Franziska and her friend to stay for tea too. I'd love for them to join us." Miles's blood ran cold. He couldn't be... He didn't expect this. Truly he couldn't after all that has happened.

"And I love you too, mother." Miles gave the signal to Lang and Kiegel for their cue to come in.

"Sorry, we have to cut our meeting short. I have a date." Shing smiled ominously at Miles.

"I won't let you!" Edgeworth threw a mean punch onto Shing's jaw. Lang and Zach immediately jumped into the scene to subdue Shing.

"You will not take another step near Franziska von Karma, Konfu Shing, or should I say..." Miles glared at Shing whose sunglasses came off from the impact of Miles's fist. "-Eduard Redwood!"

"Why, Mr. Edgeworth, I promise, I only did what was best for Alyssa. I rescued her and took her into my home!" Shing stalled.

"Not to mention you hid her belongings. Like I said, you will not get near Franziska." Miles said with conviction as Lang pulled out his handcuffs.

"If you plan to save her Miles Edgeworth, you better move fast." Shing scoffed.

"You should be more worried about yourself Captain Shing, or should I say Edward Florence." Zachary pointed a gun at Shing.

"Wh- What... But I thought you were dead! You have to be dead!" Shing's face went pale.

"I still have to prove your guilt in court with Ms. von Karma. You tried to kill us so you could escape."

"Like I said, stop accusing me of being someone I'm not! I am not involved in any human trafficking dealings at all, so please stop coming after me!"

"..." an ominous silence followed from Zachary.

"You know, Captain Shing, Franziska and I never mentioned human trafficking as the charges we arrested you for that day of the crash." Zachary chuckled. Lang grinned. Miles sighed.

"I arrested you for involvement in a crime syndicate ring- in violation of the Organized Crime Control Act of 1970 on that cockpit. Before I could say the rest of your charges, you tackled me and we began struggling for that goddamned gun!" Zachary continued.

"Obviously, only somebody like Edward Florence would know the complete charges he would be arrested for." Lang said.

In the next moment, Shing headbutted Lang on the nose and kicked him hard in the abdomen. He pulled out Lang's gun and aimed to shoot.

"Don't move! Any of you! Or I'll shoot this funny-haired policeman!" he pointed at Lang's forehead. Miles and Zachary tensed. Lang grunted, blinking in agony over his bloodied nose. He hoped he didn't fracture it.

"Yes. I'm Edward Florence. But there's nothing you can do about that. You will all die here, and my men are on their way to my house to take care of Ms. von Karma too." Florence laughed maniacally.

"You son of a-" Zachary muttered.

"Calm down Captain Kiegel." Miles pacified him. "We do not negotiate with terrorists. Call off your men, and I will tell the snipers to divert their aim from your body."

Snipers? What snipers? Zachary gave Miles a curious look. Lang simply quirked a wolfish grin, seeing through that bluff.

"Snipers? Hah, I don't belie-" before Florence could speak any further, Lang manoeuvred the gun out of his hands and knocked it away. He swiped his arm around Florence's forearm, and twisted his body to encircle and entangle Florence's frame, and subdued him into a difficult, bended position, which caused pain to struggle with.

"Get to the lady prosecutor now. I'll take care of things! My men are on standby too, and I told them to accompany you." Lang laughed and spit some blood. Miles and Zachary hurried over to the car.

Miles switched on the engine of his black Mercedes and revved the engine. Zachary stayed at the passenger's seat fully-loading his guns. He revved the engine the accelerated on ascending speed.

-Redwood Residence, Hampshire, Eduard's Room-

April 4 3:40 PM

"Who might you gentlemen be?"

"I did not say you could come in! I demand you to keep out of my house! Oi! You have no business going up the stairs!"

Joy's alarmed and frightened cries were heard from Eduard's room. Franziska and Ema were alerted to the sounds of footsteps closing in.

"Ms. von Karma... Eduard Redwood... He really is Edward Florence! They might be his men coming for us, I don't know how they-"

"Hurry, we have to hide, and block the door and close the windows before they come!" Franziska walked to push a bookshelf and a nightstand towards the door after clicking it shut. Ema closed all the windows, drapes and shutters from the bedroom windows to the bathroom at the side. Both women hid under the bed.

"The boss's room is locked. The women in question are not here. Should we interrogate the old woman?"

"Boss said not to harm the old woman, and told us we had no business talking to her, especially about him."

"What do you suggest? We play hide and seek with those witches?"

"They can't have gone too far."

Suddenly sounds of brawling, punching, and bodies being badly beaten up could be heard from the hallways.

"What the hell..." One of Florence's men reacted to a group of men in dark suits with Interpol police pins on their right lapels flooded the hallways and subdued them one by one.

Miles Edgeworth and Zachary Kiegel stormed into the hallways in search of Franziska von Karma and Ema Skye.

O-o-O-o-O

"Are they still outside, Ms. von Karma? I can't hear anything now..." Ema whispered.

"We should wait a few minutes to be safe. I'm sure they wouldn't harm Joy. She is his mother... I hope."

*Miles Edgeworth Great Revival Orchestra version ringtone plays*

"Hell and Damna-" Franziska cursed at her phone who made noise and could give away their location.

"I've found them Captain Kiegel." Miles's voice could be heard outside the door. He made that call to Franziska's phone. Both women sighed with heavy relief and started to wriggle out of the bed.

"Captain Kiegel?... No, it can't be..." Franziska was surprised, but couldn't help but smile lightly.

Ema helped Franziska unblock the door. Upon unlocking the door, Miles Edgeworth protectively encased Franziska von Karma into his arms.

"I'm... I'm glad you're safe, Franziska." He whispered into her light blue hair. The embrace was brief, as he was quite uncomfortable with public displays of affection, and he almost blushed when Ema winked at them with a knowing smile.

"I know you're glad I'm safe too Mr. Edgeworth." They both chuckled.

"Zachary Kiegel. I'd never thought I'd see you again so soon, you diehard fool." She smirked at him.

"I told you it would take more than a bullet and a fall from a height to kill me." He winked and laughed jokingly while Franziska rolled her eyes and cracked her whip.

EPILOGUE

Lang and his subordinates took care of Edward Florence's arrest and detainment at the American Embassy prison.

Joy was debriefed by Interpol psychologists and is currently seeing them weekly as she was beginning to show signs of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Captain Zachary Kiegel found the gun Franziska and Ema discovered to have been the same gun used to shoot his leg in the plane crash incident. The forensics department's report on its ballistics matched the ones on his leg. He compiled all the evidence of the case along with Ema Skye before returning to America.

Franziska von Karma underwent the rest of her medical tests to evaluate her health. Miles Edgeworth did her share of work on the case in her place. They both asked Dr. Wallburg to fly with them to America to appear in court as an expert witness, without using whips as tools of persuasion.

Miles and Franziska said their goodbyes to Joy. Joy could still barely accept the wrongdoings of her son, but despite all that has happened, she still believed in peace and the law that tries to keep it. They both comforted her with visits and words, but the time for their return to America had come not long after.

-Miles Edgeworth's Office-

April 10 8:00 AM

"Are you ready for the trial later?" Miles fastened his cravat.

"Yes. Our evidence is solid enough for Florence to plead nolo contendere." Franziska walked over to him and swatted her fingers away. He raised an eyebrow. "Let me." She gave him a mischievous smile.

"If he really would, things might be far too easy for you." He continued. "You would be frustrated, Franziska." He was too happy they could return to having conversations like these after all that has happened in the last few weeks. The gentle and affectionate way he looked at her proved it. She continued to fasten the ties in an elaborate manner, just like how she used to tie her father's some years back.

"Who wouldn't be upset? I could murder him myself, if that was legal." She pulled on the last tie.

"I'm afraid you might decide to murder him after all. I shall have to seize you before you do something foolish." He spoke in her tone, which made her smile.

She grabbed his wrists, pulled him close, and stood on her tip toes to press her lips onto his. He accepted her and kissed her right back. He slowly wrapped his arms around her waist, then spanned one hand across her back. She allowed him further entry into her mouth. As he kissed her more deeply, he felt bolder and spanned another hand to press on her bottom, pulling her soft body closer against the hard planes of his. She fit right into arms so perfectly- whole, and not in the wrecked pieces she was.

"I love you, Franziska von Karma, whatever name or form should you take." He pulled her even closer. Heat radiated through their bodies. He couldn't get enough of her.

"I love you, Miles Edgeworth, and even if I should lose my memories ever again, all you have to do is make my body remember." She cupped his face in her hands and looked at him sensually.

Where did she learn that? He never realized the intense effect she always had upon him. It was distracting him so much; he almost forgot they still had a trial to attend.

Franziska stepped away and turned her back, walking towards the door with her usual hips-swaying-confident stride. Miles could only stare at those hips and tried hard not to steer his thoughts there so early in the morning.

He looked at his cravat in the mirror. It was a ridiculous foppish, overly-dandy pattern that only Manfred von Karma would dare to wear. He struggled to undo the ties, but only made it look worse.

"Franziska, please redo my cravat. I do not like it." He turned to her and crossed his arms, giving her a severe look.

"It's my special cravat design. Only I can take it off." She smirked.

"You cannot be serious. I hate to ruin this new linen. If you don't wish to remove it now, I will have to cut it off."

Franziska walked towards him slowly. He gulped as he looked at her womanly figure.

"You really want me to remove it now, Miles Edgeworth?" she fingered the cravat and looked at his lips on purpose.

"Y... Y-yes." He hissed.

"Only if you promise not to remove mine in the process." She was clearly amused at his fidgeting. She snaked her fingers up his chest, around his neck, to land them on the ties of his cravat. She inhaled and leaned over to begin her work.

"I do not make promises I cannot keep, Franziska von Karma." He caught a whiff of her fleur de lis perfume, and this time, he grabbed her wrists, pushed her against his magenta wall-papered office wall and assaulted on her senses.
