~Sonny~

He cried every night for her,

Longing to hear those three words

"I love you"

To see her smile

To hear her laugh

To see her nose scrunch up in one of their arguments

And just to see her amazed at the stars night after night.

But he took advantage of what he had.

He pushed her away from the place where she belonged.

His heart.

And now, she was gone.

He pressured her into leaving,

And now she wasn't coming back.

She had promised he would never see her again,

But he didn't believe her.

He had expected her to come crying back,

Pleading for forgiveness.

But he wasn't the one who deserved an apology.

Of course he didn't deserve it.

And you know where he was when it happened?

He was halfway across the world.

She was taking a summer course,

For 2 weeks just to try it out.

Trying to make a fresh, new start.

He didn't think she would go,

Neither did she.

He would have never imagined her taking the full course,

But she did.

Her friends said she was in a depression,

And she wouldn't smile for days.

They also longed to hear her laugh.

She did laugh, but they all knew it was fake.

They could practically hear her heart ripping up more and more,

Second after second,

Tear after tear.

Her roommate said she would cry herself to sleep every night,

And wake up with a tear stained face.

They all knew what was going on,

But they chose not to interfere.

They told him that they had thought he would work it out with her,

But he never did.

And now,

All alone in his bed he slept,

Waiting to wake up from this nightmare.

He couldn't live without her.

He didn't think she would do it.

It was too horrid.

Jumping off a cliff,

He didn't think she would have done it.

Heck, he would have stopped her if he had known.

But he didn't.

And now look where it left him.

Ashes, he had a pile of ashes.

So you know what he did?

He climbed out of bed,

Got his keys, and drove to the closest mountain clearing.

If she wasn't here,

He was going to follow her and make things right.

Taking a deep breath, he jumped,

Ignoring the wind slapping him across the face.

He ignored the pain,

Since there was too much too handle.

As he hit the cold rocks,

The last thing he said was :

"I'm coming, Sonny."

Cause sometimes, that's what you do

And you don't see what's right in front of you.

You take things for granted.

Until they're gone.
