What Didn't Make It
This goes out to Nightcrawler's Shadow who has been around every step of the way since Elf, a talented writer who's got more projects than a dog has fleas still manages to update them all, sometimes in the same day.
And Kazemaru-kun who's enthusiastic response just could not be refused. Hope it lives up to your expectations.
"I suppose can't entirely blame you being upset with me," he mused aloud, causing her fingers to still against his hair as she looked up at him questioningly. "I was the one who left you."
A sharp, almost horrified intake of breath was his only warning before Kitty flung herself away from him as if burned. Before his mind had the chance to process her action, however, her arms were around his neck, her cheek smooth and warm against his own as frantic, rambling apologies filtered through her lips. "So sorry. Shouldn't have brought all that up. Didn't mean to."
He shushed her softly, fingers flexing soothingly against her back. He eased the both of them out of the melding embrace she had initiated, just far enough apart for him to face her. "Perhaps not. But you weren't wrong. I did leave despite the fact that you made it clear you wanted me to stay." He shook his head ruefully; whatever his reasons had been or wanted to be, she had wanted him and that should have paled them all.
Almost absentmindedly, his hand cupped her cheek, his tick fingers slipping easily through her silky hair, "Twice now I have walked away from you, and both times I have wished fervently that I had stayed. I do not intend to make the same mistake a third time. I am here now, Kitty. Always."
Her head turned just a fraction, her lips briefly pressing against the palm of his hand before she gently disentangled his fingers from her hair and guided the appendage down to her waist. "Sorry I yelled at you," she offered softly, tucking herself up under his chin. "I shouldn't have."
He chuckled lightly in his throat, pulling her close and kissing her hair. "You were not alone in that regard."
Her head shook slightly, ruffling the fur thicker fur along his neck, "No. I shouldn't have flown-off the handle like that. I mean, it's not like I ever asked or anything…"
"Who vas talking about it anyway?" he asked curiously. "I mean, if you don't mind my asking."
"Hmm?" she murmured drowsily; she must have been falling asleep. "Oh, Emma."
He nodded lightly against the top of her head. Of course. He really should have guessed, the arrogant telepath had a tendency to believe she knew what was best for everyone and took it upon herself to correct any errors she found.
Better she found out from me, with your best interests at heart, the telepath in question whispered into his mind, than from another out of spite.
The next time, he growled through the connection she had established, you choose to fix my relationship, talk to me about it first. If Emma had spoken to him before speaking to Kitty, the whole fight may have been avoided entirely.
Ah, but as you said yourself, it was no secret. Anyone could have brought it up. And sometimes there has to be a fight.
The light tingling at the back of his head that indicated a physic connection faded with Emma's voice. Kurt shrugged the matter off and leaned back against the headboard, Kitty's soft even breathing telling him sleep was not far away. He smiled and pointedly ignored the racket of whatever catastrophe Bobby was inciting downstairs, content to simply let things be for the moment.
After all, it would all still be there in the morning.
