It's going to take some time to get used to the new look, that is for certain. Especially the clothes (was there really a planet out there that considered that high fashion?) but the personality was extremely off-putting. There were the mood swings, the off-hand quotations and poetry recitals, the emotional outbursts and odd temperament. And the rare bout of violence --- Peri's hand strayed unconsciously to her collarbone. He had said he was stable, but better safe than sorry, that's what her friends at home always said.

And look at her now, Peri thought bitterly. She goes and meets a handsome blonde man while on vacation, goes traveling with him, even falls in love, and this is how she gets repaid by the universe? For him to die and turn into the man who was now the Doctor? If this is a joke, Peri is not laughing, not one bit. She expected to be running through the universe, holding hands with a gentleman in cricket gear, not getting into the occasional verbal war with a loud unsightly man who dresses himself in the dark. You can't have everything you want, that's for sure.

Still, when they've stopped running long enough to look at each other, and the Doctor says something like well, wasn't that fun? with one of his exasperatingly charming smiles, she can't help but smile back at him. Her Doctor, whether she likes it or not (and she thinks she does).
