He held her body so tight that it should've hurt. Oblivious, she urged his strong hold, her shaking hands gathering the fabric of his shirt and pressing it fiercely into her palms with a helpless intensity. She seemed so small as she hung brokenly onto him like a drowning man clinging to a buoy. Yet the determined passion and sheer relief that radiated from her soul were clear. Impossible to disregard. He felt her chest rise and slowly collapse as she slowly released a shaky breath. And he joyfully laughed through a misty vision of rejuvenating auburn. She was breathing. And as long as she did that forever, he would be okay.
