After some sweet sleep, Robin slowly gained consciousness. He didn't sit up immediately as he would have since he wasn't in his own room. Instead, he was surrounded by rather bright, colorful walls and was lying down on a plush mattress with many pillows around him. In fact, Robin felt comfortable in his still state.
He looked to his side and smiled when he saw the red hair covering Starfire's doll-like face. She was sound asleep. Robin noticed the corners of her mouth formed a tiny smile. At this, Robin felt an immense sense of satisfaction and happiness.
Robin sat up, realizing that he was shirtless. He ran his fingers through his hair to recall the events of last night. Cyborg and Beast Boy were in the mood to go out and party at a club. Robin requested that Raven should go along with them so that they had supervision from someone responsible. Robin told everybody that he had some work to do and Starfire said she was tired and just wanted to rejuvenate. But, last night, when Robin went into the kitchen to grab a bite to eat, he saw that Starfire wasn't sleeping.
She was pouring a glass of milk for two people and filled a plate with chocolate chip cookies. Starfire thought she was alone even though Robin leaned against the fridge and watched her, amused. He loved watching her. She was the most innocent girl he ever met, the sweetest and kindest.
When Starfire was about to put the gallon of milk back in the refrigerator, she was startled to see Robin, but pleased.
"Robin! I did not see you come in. I was going to come look for you and offer you a glass of cold milk and some of these cookies. They are very good!"
Robin smiled. "Thanks, Starfire. I thought you were sleeping." He paused. "But it's nice that you're not."
He could have sworn that he saw Starfire blush. "Why, I am glad that my company pleases you," she said.
The two friends sat down and gazed at each other while enjoying the sight of each other. Starfire's cheeks were burning and Robin found himself unable to resist Starfire that night.
He took Starfire's hand in his and said to her, "Starfire …I think this is really nice."
Still surprised at Robin's affectionate gesture, Starfire replied, "It is! I am happy that it is just the two of us here alone." She blushed and looked behind her shoulder. "I think I owe you a confession, Robin…"
Robin's heart leapt. "What is it, Starfire?"
She looked deep into his eyes and smiled warmly at him. "I think it is obvious, is it not?" She moved closer to Robin, who was feeling more anxious than ever. "I feel love for you, Robin. Very much so."
Still holding her hand, Robin squeezed it gently and responded, "I love you, too, Starfire." He moved in to kiss her, his hands heading towards her waist, their torso's touching –the next morning, Robin found himself sitting awake in Starfire's room, under fuzzy blankets that a much younger girl would use.
Robin took note of all the childlike qualities that Starfire's room held and took a good look at Starfire in her sleep. She was like a little girl, always so happy and naïve. Perhaps that is what Robin liked so much about her. Through the worst of times, optimism was still present from Starfire. Everyone needs someone like Starfire, Robin thought. Someone cute, energetic, and fun.
Robin lied back down and watched Starfire, who smiled.
"I can tell you are looking at me, Robin," she said. She opened her eyes and turned to her side to face Robin. "That was a wonderful night. Thank you."
Robin kissed her forehead and said, "No, thank you. I love you."
