A/N: I don't own Harry Potter or any characters. Inspired by the song "Gravity" by Sara Bareilles. Some lyrics:

"Something always brings me back to you.
It never takes too long.
No matter what I say or do I'll still feel you here 'til the moment I'm gone."

Severus looked at Lily, knowing that he couldn't have her. She was laughing now, laughing with Potter. Severus clenched his fists and stormed away.

He made his way to his dorms without thinking about where he was going. Situations like this had happened a few times too many. Severus slammed his fist against the brick wall and collapsed onto his bed. He waved his hand in front of his face, watching as the green glow stuck to his hand like a leech, willing himself not to think. But think he did.

He thought about Lily. He thought about her beautiful, long, fiery hair and her gorgeous emerald eyes that twinkled when she smiled. My God, her smile, Severus thought. Just picturing that twinkling smile she used to give him brought him warm feelings that were quickly replaced with regret. I never should have called her a Mudblood.

But what was done was done and he would have to live with that, whether he liked it or not. He sighed and sat up. It was a Saturday. He should be outside, enjoying the weather, not sulking in his dorm. And so Severus walked back out onto the grounds to watch Lily again. As much as he hated to admit it, seeing Lily with Potter was better than not seeing her at. He didn't know what he would do if she left his life completely…

Severus sat under a tree, a safe distance from Potter and his good-for-nothing friends, and watched as Lily took Potter's hand as they walked. For a moment, he wondered what it would be like if it was his hand that Lily took. Then he shook the thought away. That was never going to happen now.

Lily laughed again and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. Severus found himself wondering if she was trying to torture him. Then again, he probably deserved it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Lily,

I'm sorry. I never meant to call you that. Please forgive me, Lily. I am so sorry.

There is something I have to tell you. I love you, Lily. I love you so much more than Potter does. That boy could never love you as much as I do. I've always loved you, Lily. Pick me instead of him. I'm begging you, Lily. Please.

I loved you first.

Love always,

Severus

A tear ran down his hooked nose and fell onto the parchment. He quickly wiped it away before it could smear the ink. Then he crumpled the letter, throwing it across the room with a loud cry.

What he didn't know was that later that day, Lucius Malfoy found that note and did the only decent thing he'd ever done; he gave it to Lily. And she kept it with her always, never telling Severus that she loved him to, but not in the same way. She never told him that she would always choose James. She never told him that she cried when she read it or that she died with it in her pocket.

A/N: Was just a little sad today, and this is what happened. Let me know what you think.
