He closed McNally's Completely Accurate and Self-Updating Wizarding Genealogy with a sigh. It would seem that the rumors that he was the Heir of Slytherin were actually true as his maternal grandmother had been the result of a one night stand between a highly inebriated Morfin Gaunt - who had wandered into the muggle pub because the beer was cheaper (and all he could afford at the time) - and one Mary Gardner who had been too drunk to see straight.
He was not culpable in the petrifications of Mrs. Norris and Colin Creevey however.
The fact was, someone was wandering around the school attacking people with HIS monster.
The next morning, everyone who saw a particular note on the wall in a certain messy scrawl wondered how they could have thought that Harry Potter had written the previous note.
For under the words:
THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS HAS BEEN OPENED. ENEMIES OF THE HEIR BEWARE.
someone had written in Harry Potter's handwriting:
STOP MESSING WITH MY GODDAMN PROPERTY -The REAL Heir of Slytherin.

As he raced down the second floor corridor on his way to the bathroom to interrogate Moaning Myrtle with Ron and Lockheart at his heels, he paused, pulled a marker out of his pocket and scrawled something beneath the latest note from the other "Heir of Slytherin".

As Lucius Malfoy made his way towards the Headmaster's office, he couldn't help but stop and stare at the left-hand wall of the second floor corridor. Running along its entire length was a written argument - in foot-high bright red letters - between two people claiming to be the Heir of Slytherin. It began with the words THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS HAS BEEN OPENED. ENEMIES OF THE HEIR BEWARE. and ended with HER BONES WILL LIE IN THE CHAMBER FOREVER.
Beneath the last comment however, the other person had scrawled Not if I can help it Loser. in black ink instead of the usual red.
