Something To Come Home To
Disclaimer: I don't own them…I just love them!
Casey wasn't sure what woke her up in the middle of the night – she hadn't heard anything, she wasn't cold, she didn't need to use the bathroom. She rolled over and stretched her arm across the other side of the bed and found nothing but cold sheets. Maybe that was it; she wasn't used to sleeping alone anymore and judging by the fact that it was 3am she shouldn't have been. Her eyes adjusted to the darkness as she sat up and looked around the room. She found that things in their bedroom had been disturbed since she had gone to bed. Casey knew that if she wasn't in here there was only 1 other place that she could be.
Grabbing her robe off the chair by the bed to shield herself from the chill of the night air, Casey made her way out of the bedroom to the apartment's second bedroom down the hall. Sure enough, when she pushed the door open she found exactly what she had expected to find – her wife of 3 years, Olivia Benson, sitting in the rocking chair, cradling their 4 month old son William in her arms; both sleeping peacefully.
She pressed a kiss to her wife's forehead before kneeling beside the rocker and stroking her arm. It took a moment for her to wake up but Olivia finally opened her eyes.
"Hey beautiful," Casey greeted her.
Olivia smiled, "Hey."
"Tough case?" Casey knew that's what was bothering her. After the particularly tough cases, usually the ones involving kids, she knew that she could find Olivia snuggling with William.
"Shaken baby," Olivia said turning her eye's back to her son.
"I take it I will be prosecuting a parent sometime soon?"
"No need to. When dad found out that it was mom's fault, he shot her and then himself."
Casey pressed a kiss to her lover's shoulder as they looked over the child in her arms.
"I will never understand it," she said finally taking her eyes off of William, "they bring a child into the world only to hurt them in the end."
"Honey, I would begin to worry about you if you ever began to understand it. Come on, let's get you to bed. We've both got the day off tomorrow so we can spend all day curled up with our little man." Casey pressed a kiss to Olivia's lips before she stood up.
Olivia rose and placed William back in crib. Casey wrapped her arms around her from behind and began to rain kisses down Olivia's neck and shoulder as she looked over their son for one last time that night.
As Olivia wrapped her arms around her lover and snuggled into bed for the night, she couldn't help but think of how lucky she was to have an amazing wife and a beautiful little boy to come home to after a day like today.
