Once Lost, Cannot Be Returned

He knew that his choices could come back to haunt him one day. And today, seeing Sam leaving for college, he realized how much he'd missed.

For both his boys.

He missed Sammy's first steps; too busy fighting a werewolf in Nebraska.

Sam's first word too. That, of course, wasn't dada. No, it was "De." Even at an early age Sam idolized his brother.

And rightly so. Dean had raised him.

Dean had taught him how to use a fork. Use the toilet. Ride a bike.

Dean'd been there for the talk about girls too. Not that John hadn't tried with that one. But no. John hadn't always been there for those milestones. He realized now that time, once lost, cannot be returned.
