For 30 Kisses theme #17: kHz.

"Kyaa!" several of the female students squealed; some in jest, and some with more sincerity. "It's so dark in here!"

"Contrary to the popular phrase," the guide lectured, "bats are not blind at all. Some can even see well enough at night to find food by vision and smell alone. But many bats navigate and hunt by making high-frequency noises that echo off their surroundings. This process...."

Nokoru reassured a particularly nervous girl next to him that the CLAMP Campus Zoo's bat house was designed to be perfectly safe under any lighting conditions, and was furthermore monitored by infrared cameras. "Besides, I believe I saw Takahashi-kun from class D nearby, and I'm sure that he would be honored to protect you if anything should happen."

"Takahashi-kun?" the girl asked, and the breathlessness in her voice didn't sound like it was from fear. Nokoru watched in amused satisfaction as her shadowy form departed in search of her crush.

A pair of golden eyes, keener than most in the dark, watched as well.

"Always at it, aren't you, Kaichou?"

"Ah, Suoh, there you are!"

"Of course. Where else would I be?"

"No mere darkness could keep a Takamura from finding his target, right?"

Though this was true, Suoh merely replied, "Not from finding you, at any rate."

"Really." They walked together slowly, hanging behind the rest of the students. Darkness and years of companionship wrapped around them, gently punctuated by soft flutterings from above. "And how do you do it?"

"I have my methods."

"Echolocation?"

"Not quite."

The blond's fingers intertwined with those of his dark-haired protector. "You're smiling, Suoh."

"How can you tell?"

"I have my methods, too."

Nokoru raised himself up on the ends of his toes.

Suoh felt a pair of warm, soft lips gently brush his cheek.

As if darkness mattered when he was standing next to the only light he ever needed.
