Chapter 46

"Who Didn't See This Coming?"

After spending some time on Mobius with Sonic and his friends, Chris Thorndyke eventually became bored and decided to explore the planet.

"Uh, Chris," Tails said, traveling with him. "I'm not entirely sure that's such a good idea!"

"Come on, Tails, what harm could a little exploring do?" Chris asked, ignoring the fox's objections as he entered a fenced in area with a sign. The sign read:

"WARNING! FORBIDDEN ZONE! KEEP OUT! THIS MEANS YOU, STUPID!"

"You really shouldn't go in there, Chris," Tails said as the human climbed the fence. The fox leaped over the fence and landed on his face. "Ow!"

"You worry too much, Tails," Chris told him. "What could possibly go wrong? We just beat Dr. Eggman so I'm certain he won't be around again any time soon!"

"Yes, but there are some things people really shouldn't know," the fox warned. Seeing he wasn't listening, Tails called out, "Wait! There's something you should know before you go any further!"

Chris' response was a scream. Tails ran after him. He stopped beside the human, who had just sank to his knees and started pounding the sandy ground. Ahead of them, laying on its side, was the shattered remains of a large statue. Part of a broken crown still rested on its head, and a shattered torch was still held in badly cracked fingers.

"I'm home…All the time…" Chris sobbed, looking at the statue. "You maniacs!" he screamed. "You blew it up! Damn you all to hell!" He pounded on the ground in helpless rage for a few moments, then turned to Tails, still standing beside him. "Why?" he asked. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Tails patted him on the shoulder. "Why did you think we all spoke English?"
