200 Word drabble set during the season one finale, 'Prophecy Girl' - just after the punch.

Seriously innocent Buffy/Giles from Buffy's POV. If you don't like the pairing, don't read.

I Might've

If we had've been alone I might've thanked you, might've told you that you've meant more to me – and done more for me – than anyone ever has before. If I was feeling really brave I might've even said I love you for it. I know it's not right – I know you couldn't and you wouldn't reciprocate, but I still love you.

I fight it. I don't even really understand it properly, but I do know that I feel like I've found something that's been missing from me whenever I hear that ridiculously stuttery Brit-cent, or I see you all glasses and tweed clad, holding a book.

I'm sorry for the bruise, but I couldn't let you face him; because I really do love you. I might've even told you so tonight.

I mean, what did I have to lose? I'm dead anyway.

Instead I guess I'll just think about what might have been while I walk to my impending death. It's okay, though, and I hope you don't worry or grieve. If one of us has to die at the Master's hands, I'd rather me than you.

If we had've been alone back there, I might've even told you so.
