Totally random and kinda depressing fic I wrote v. late one night. I'm not too sure about it but I thought I'd post it and leave it up to you to judge: P

"You'll never realise how much you'll miss something until it's gone. "

Abby remembered her mum telling her that when she was little and her first pet lizard died. She'd loved that lizard so much that it sparked her interest in many other lizards, much more exotic and glamorous lizards that her plain green lizard could hardly compete with. She'd put Alfred the lizard to the back of her mind, barely giving him a second glance as she few him weekly and frequently forgetting to clean his cage or top up his water bowl. But when the animal passed away of old age three years after she brought him, Abby realised how empty her life was without him. She missed having him there to greet her when she came home from a bad day at school. She missed how he would jump against the glass walls of the vivarium when he was hungry. Or course, he found it annoying at the time but once he had gone it was just one of many quirky traits she would remember him for. The worst bit was seeing the empty space where she should have been.

Nevertheless, Abby had taken many other things for granted over the years: the free time she had off school before she started work and had no free time to speak of; the white cargo trousers she brought that she could wear with everything until she accidently put them in a wash with a red sock; the run of the mill daily routine she'd established before she'd started working at the A.R.C. ... The list was endless.

But as she sat in the uncomfortable, orange, plastic chair which was one of many which lined one wall of the private hospital ward, Abby feared she may have made the biggest mistake of her life by taking Connor for granted. And she couldn't begin to image how much she'd miss him if he left her. In an operation gone wrong Connor had tried to attack the creature by himself to protect Abby as the sharp fangs were merely inches from her throat. In doing so he saved Abby's live so she was barely harmed, but he put himself in a critical condition.

"Please wake up," Abby sobbed as she lifted his limp arm to her face which was stained with Blood, mud and mostly her tears. Abby couldn't face to go back to their flat without Connor there. It would feel strange, she told herself while imaging seeing Connor's clothes and DVDs scattered about and some play station game undoubtedly left playing on the T.V., all small reminders of how big a part of her life Connor had become in a matter of months. Abby realised that she could no longer imagine a day without without Connor being there and that fact scared her. She didn't realise how close she had become to the man who she had originally found annoying beyond belief. Just like Alfred the lizard, those quirks of his had become charming and Abby loved him for them...

"Love?" Abby shot up, fearful of where her thoughts had led her. She liked Connor an enormous amount but she'd never thought she loved him... Although it would make sense, she tried to convince herself. Just seeing him smile made Abby happy beyond belief and she would happily sit with him though every Star Wars ever made just for the chance to be close to him...

"I love you Connor," she said out loud for the first time, although deep down she guessed she always knew it was true. "You have to wake up!" She cried, as she sat hoping and praying her Connor wouldn't leave her.

Like it? Hate it? Have no opinions what so ever? I'd still love it if you reviewed ^^
