The Best Moment of My Life

Hey, Mokuze is finally back! This is a NejiTen fic, of course. I wrote it specially for Shino-is-Mine, so she better review it O.o

To everyone else, enjoy! Please R&R!!

It had been five long years since Neji and TenTen had gotten together, and now they were twenty-one. It was Valentine's Day, and their anniversary, and Neji was planning something big. It was hard to seem normal; for all the young Hyuuga wanted to do was jump, cheer, and act very unlike Neji. At the moment, he was walking toward TenTen's house, fists clenched anxiously in his pockets.

"TenTen!" he called, praying that she would be home. For a moment, there was silence. But TenTen opened the door and greeted Neji– as always- with a smile. "There's…something I want to do…"

"What's that, Neji?"

"A…a game, really. A quiz." Neji stammered. TenTen frowned worriedly, but nodded and sat on the steps with Neji, waiting for him to continue. "What do you think of…my family?"

"I love your family, Neji!" TenTen cried. "They've been nothing but nice to me all my life, there's no reason for me not to like them!"

Neji smiled and nodded. "Moving on." He said. "What do you think of…me?"

"Well Neji, shouldn't it be obvious?" TenTen asked incredulously. "I love you, more than anything." She complimented this with a kiss on Neji's cheek.

This was it. Neji clenched his hand around the box in his pocket. "What do you think," Neji pulled the box out and opened it to reveal a shining wedding band. "…of spending the rest of your life with me?"

TenTen's eyes opened wide. She looked at the ring, then at Neji, then back at the ring again. "Neji, I…I would love to marry you!" she exclaimed. Without warning, she threw her arms around his neck and knocked him to the ground. She began to cry.

"Wha…why are you crying?" Neji asked, scared he'd made her angry.

"You can cry when you're happy, Neji…" TenTen beamed through watery eyes. "How many times do I have to tell you that?" Neji felt like he was about to cry as well, but he didn't. After all, he still had his pride!

After awhile, TenTen stopped crying, and she and Neji laid back on the porch.

"Neji," TenTen said suddenly. "Do you remember when you first asked me on a date?"

"Yes." Neji smiled. "I was nervous." He admitted.

"But you still asked." TenTen retorted. They both laughed and leaned in to kiss briefly. "…Was that the best moment of your life too?" she asked moments later.

"No."

"What?!" TenTen exclaimed, hurt. "What was…?"

"The best moment of my life…" Neji propped himself up on his elbows and looked up at the sky. A bird flew out of a tree and toward the sun, free as the wind. Free as the moon.

Free as Neji.

"The best moment of my life was when you said 'yes'."
