A/N - I apologize for my years of absence. But I recently looked into my inbox and received an onslaught of reviews and favoriting. I love all of your support and kind words. Life simply took me over and writers block debilitated me from finishing. I hope to review and edit the past chapters because I'm not as satisfied by how it was written. Enjoy this chapter :)
Isabella's Point of View
We didn't leave his chambers for some time. I wasn't sure what I would see if I were to glance outside. I was laying next to Edward, his hands were placed on the curve of my jaw and I sunk into his embrace. The feeling of his cool chest against mine caused a frenzy on my skin. I took a deep breath and felt a rush of emotions. The variation of feelings made me whimper and Edward's other arm pulled me even closer into him.
"I know." he whispered.
How could he possibly understand my sudden urge to weep? We were in danger. I allowed myself to get caught in the flurry of wedding plans, but the tension that lingered after the Coven left still rested in my heart. Giving myself breath expanded it and let it flow through me, causing waves of anxiety and hopelessness to creep under my skin. I would have hoped the chills were caused by my loves cool hands, but fear was dominating me.
"They're coming for me" I sighed. Sitting up I pulled my robe on, I stood and walked towards the vanity Edward requested for me. I didn't appreciate the need to look at myself constantly, but Alice insisted that I had somewhere I could call my own. It was a requirement for royalty.
I turned to look at the man I would soon call my husband. He looked at me like I was a wonder. As though I could disappear.
"Your worries are unneeded," he said annoyed, "we are properly matched in combat to defend our territory." His words were meant to be reassuring, yet I still felt the same. The deep breaths, the wave of anxiety, the uneasiness, all of it was leaving me unsure.
My life was simple and undesirable and without a moments notice my heart was claimed by Edward. I fell in love with him quickly and effortlessly, but not for a moment was this happiness to be given to me lightly. I am a wanted women in ways I never imagined. James wanted my blood and now my new family is set to battle for my life. How could I wait idly as a helpless human while they risk themselves to satisfy my need to live?
He sat up and leaned back on his arms looking at me. I hated the way I felt in a time where I should be happy.
I looked at him, playing music box Elizabeth gifted me with once we told her of our engagement. "You asked me to marry you without a moment to breathe, the second the coven departed, why?" I searches his face for a reaction. He looked at me puzzled then pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Isabella..."
I stood adjusting my dress and holding it against my chest, I fidgeted in my stance, "I don't mean to insult you or question your love, but the suddenness alarms me. I would want nothing more than to marry you at this moment.."
He looked up sighing.
"Yet you quickly asked for my hand in marriage. Edward, you're worried just as much as I am. Admit it and we can continue on beyond this charade." I spoke calmly and looked into his eyes. My intentions weren't to be accusatory, but as I stood in front of him I saw what I was looking for in the way his mouth moved. He looked unsure under his mask of calm. He made a move to remove the covers from around him. Standing tall he strode towards me and kneeled, pulling my hand for me to sit back down.
"Indeed, I asked for your hand so suddenly because of the coven," I bowed my head, "I did it because I felt a limit on my mortality and the threat inspired me to cherish the moments I have with you. From the second my hands first touched yours and then you ripped yourself away from me I have felt worried for my future. You are my life now Isabella. I am worried because I you are this entity that represents all I could ever yearn for. My years have shown me that I am not one for luck. Maybe a moment of peace was given to me by giving me you, but I will not tempt fate again and allow this coven to take away my chance to be united with you for the rest of eternity,"
He held my hand firmly in his, begging for me to understand.
"Edward, I have lost so much." I lightly glided my hand down his neck.
"My worry isn't unfounded, I've seen the look of a predator. I've seen his eyes. They wanted to rip me apart, he wants me dead. That rage," I swallowed, "this is deeper than losing a prey Edward. He wants me for a reason. They wouldn't come back unless.."
"Unless what," he looked confused. I couldn't help but grunt and grab the ends of my hair.
"He's too determined Edward, I'm nothing special and he's ready to take on your whole family. I'm not well versed in vampire ways, but something's not right."
Edward grabs both my wrists and brings me up with him. His eyes are closed and I can feel his tension.
"We'll defeat him Isabella, with my dying breath you will be safe." his eyes were onyx staring into mine.
I held my breath and challenged his stare. "You're not going to die Edward. That is not an option."
Just then there was a knock.
A young woman with her head bowed towards the floor spoke quietly but clearly.
"Your majesty, King Carlise requests your presence."
Edward responded with growl.
"I'll be there in a moments time, have Fredrick prepare my bath and garments."
He let go of my wrists and kissed my palms. Looking into my eyes he gave me look that felt like an apology.
"I love you," I said briefly kissing his lips.
He left without saying another word. The woman shuffling behind him.
THIRD PERSON POINT OF VIEW
He bounded through the forest, whipping past branches. The man slowed to a stop by a cabin where a raven haired woman sat in a chair holding a new born in her arms. Just then a woman with fiery locks appeared with dirt smeared on her face and blood her lips. She stood perched on the roof of the cabin a wild look in her emerald eyes. She smiled as her teeth glinted and her body stretched lingually. Her sigh sounded like a purr and her finger tips flexed. "The most lovely group of knights were or practicing their joust. Imagine my delight when I found this delicious young man speared into a tree. Still alive and barely breathing. His blood was absolutely amazing! From the look on his eyes he most Lilly thought I was an angel." Her eyes were closed as she hummed in pleasure reliving the moment.
"I see you've enjoyed yourself today." James said.
"Oh most certainly, but I'm growing tired my love, we don't have much time until its too late." She jumps off the roof and walks towards the new born and scrapes a nail across its forehead. It begins to cry and she sneers at the weak human.
James smirks, "The snow is our signal of when it's time. Eli will have arrived by then and the child will be of age. Victoria, all will be well."
She raises her eyebrows with a smile "I trust in your knowledge," In a moment Victoria's body was quickly wrapped around his waist, her arms over his shoulders and her fingers tracing his ear. "All will be well." she said softly into his ear. James grabbed her by her rear and breathed into her neck. Victoria moans as he grabs her rear and growls playfully.
Without looking away from the child the raven haired woman chuckles, "You two are unbearable. A child is present." She coos and plays with its hair. Letting the newborn grab her index finger playfully.
"Excuse us Anna, I believe we've left our manners in Romania, I do apologize." Victoria unwraps her body from her mate and pulls him by the hand towards the cabin.
"Don't break anything, Laurent isn't going to be pleased if you do." Anna smiled slightly knowing her warnings were going through deaf ears, yet she felt an obligation to warn them nonetheless.
She turns toward the child, "In due time my sweet you'll fulfill your destiny." She continues to smile towards the newborn as it giggled back, now grabbing a glinting pendant that hung from Anna's neck It glowed from the touch of the child.
