He heard her talking to her best friend through the phone one time.
Sakuno said she loved him.
And that she couldn't leave him.

He was shocked of coarse, when he heard her saying it.

She loved him.
Him of all people.
Of coarse, he was her boyfriend, but that didn't mean that they had to love each other, didn't it?

He didn't love her.

Ryoma didn't know why he did it.
But every time, it would happen again.
And again.
And again.
It was like a sort of routine.
He would win an important match, championship, or whatever.
He would drink too much, Sakuno wouldn't be there and there were always attractive girls that were so inviting…
And it would happen.
The next day, it would be everywhere:
"Ryoma Echizen, nr. 1 tennis player, cheats again! How long does it take before Ryuuzaki Sakuno leaves him?"
He would come home with a hang over, she would be crying at home, trying to hide for him.
He would always find her, he would kiss her tears away, promising things he couldn't, shouldn't promise.
Things, like love, or a happy ending.
Ryoma knew he shouldn't do that.
But he still did.
Because he couldn't take his eyes off Sakuno whenever she cried.
There was always this weird feeling in him when she would stare at him with her large eyes, and those tears running down her cheeks.
No, Ryoma Echizen couldn't help but take her in his arms and promise her what she wants…

So it wasn't a surprise when he went home after a wild night and called her, but couldn't find her.
It wasn't a surprise that one day, Sakuno wasn't there anymore.
The only surprises were the tears running down his face and the painful feeling in his chest.
