Disclaimer: This isn't my sandbox, I'm just playing in it for a while.

Notes: Uh. So. I tried writing Yuusuke/Hiei - my first attempt ever, just to see if I could - for one of my prompts for "30 Drabbles". Turns out the boys weren't so keen on the whole "prompt" idea, and this is what resulted. A piece of meaningless fluff-type fic that somehow manages to involve multiple mentions of bleeding body parts. (Of course, look who we're dealing with, here.) Erm. Enjoy...?

Thanks to Kyoko Kasshu-Minamino for lovely beta work.

It started with sparring. It usually did with Yuusuke. No punches were pulled despite the blood, showing at the corner of Yuusuke's left eye and seeping through Hiei's bandages. It would heal. It always did.

Except that Yuusuke's eye was starting to really friggin' hurt. And Hiei kept aiming for it, specifically because it was injured. Yuusuke could call a time out and send some energy its way to get it to healing, but Hiei would just mock him. And Yuusuke really didn't like it when Hiei mocked him. So he just clenched his jaw and kept punching. It had always worked in the past.

Of course, in the past, the other guy had either gone down or given up by the time he went blind in one eye.

"Okay," Yuusuke called. "Fuck it. Time out." Another punch, one he ducked. "Dammit, Hiei!"

"It slipped," Hiei said, examining his own wounds as Yuusuke pressed his palm against his eye. "Never thought you'd be one to let a little blindness stop you."

"Shut up, Hiei." It was healing, but the partial darkness was always unnerving. Hiei's mockery wasn't helping.

"The way you fight, I always assumed you just closed your eyes and swung."

"Dammit, Hiei, shut up." There was silence from beside him, but Yuusuke could feel him smirking. It was this little edge to his energy, Yuusuke had realized, that showed up when he was feeling particularly superior. He ignored it and focused on his eye. It had almost healed by the time Hiei spoke again.

"You'd certainly have to be blind to have stayed around that girl all these years."

"...that's it." Abandoning any sense of fighting style, Yuusuke just lunged at Hiei, grabbing him around the middle and tackling him to the ground. He heard Hiei's confused sputtering, but ignored it in favor of punching Hiei really hard in the stomach.

"You - get - Yuusuke!" Hiei managed to get out from under Yuusuke, only to be dragged back down as Yuusuke grabbed his ankle.

"Teach you to run your mouth," he muttered, settling his knees on either side of Hiei's torso and swinging at his face. He fully expected to get his ass handed to him later, if only in retribution for actually getting the jump on Hiei.

What he wasn't expecting was to be grabbed by the shoulders and kissed.

He processed it without really meaning to - Hiei's lips were thin and dry, and there was blood at the corner of his mouth (Yuusuke's doing). He had stumbled in surprise, and his hands were planted in the grass on either side of Hiei's head. Hiei was glaring at him.

Just like that, he was released, and Yuusuke scrambled backwards. "What the fucking fuck," he managed to say. Hiei just stood up, tugging his shirt over his head.

"You let your guard down," he said simply. There was no cocky edge to his aura now.

"So did you!"

"I recovered and got the upper hand."

"You...you kissed me!"

"And it knocked you onto your ass." The smirk was back. Yuusuke really hated that smirk. "Next time, detective." Hiei started to walk away.

"O-oi! Get back here!" Yuusuke ran after him. "I want a rematch!"

"I'd just knock you over again."

"Oh, is that what they're calling it these days."
