Blink and You'll Miss It

Summary: Implied Conquestshipping (ValonMai) for Computerfreak101's contest. --It was just a split second romance, and then she was gone to better things. And Valon was left...in love.

AN/ I have no idea about Valon, but apparently he wasn't given much depth in the series so...here goes.

Ride through life with tinted glasses

So you don't have to fall in love

Ride with tinted glasses

So you don't have to see the pain...

Valon knew Mai wasn't in love with him. He wasn't stupid. Honestly, if anybody tried telling him that, he would beat them up. Because they would be lying.

There had been moments, in DOMA, where they had been around each other and she had looked at him, or smiled that particular way that made his foolish heart leap.

Some nights he would look into the dark sky and pretend he was looking at it with her.

He didn't really have anybody. He had people to stand by him in a fight, but that was it.

He loved her.

He often fantasized about being shot a special smile, the kind that said kiss me. From her. But that was just an idiotic thought. She still had that smile though, that particular look in her eyes. Love was a cruel thing, not deserving of his time, Valon thought.

Because she still had that look, it just wasn't for him.

There had been a time where maybe, just maybe, they could have fallen in love, just because there was nobody else.

Then she left, and then she met the other, with his honey eyes and rays-of-sunshine hair.

And she whirled away from Valon, before she had come.

After a split second they held hands, a flash of a kiss in the darkness.

She hadn't wanted him, she had just...wanted somebody to press her lips to and pretend he was the man of her dreams.

Don't remember the past

It's not important.

She was just yesterday now.

She was gone, leaving Valon to wonder where the happy times had gone, or if they had ever even been there. Leaving him to try to pick up the pieces, and just recoil, sucking blood from cuts on his fingers, even though he had been through so much worse.

He was tough, he was a fighter.

You are the only person you need...

Right?

You don't need this girl...

Right?

You're happy enough as it is...

Right?

Y'know, the rule of the streets...

Right?

Valon knew that it was falling in love that was easy.

Falling out was the hard part.

So he preferred to pretend that he loved Mai and she loved him back, just because of their little blink-and-you'll-miss-it kiss. Just because...

He was pathetic.

Forget her.

...Ride through life with tinted glasses

So you don't have to see the pain.

Ride through life with tinted glasses

So you don't go insane.
