The Little Things

It starts with little things.

Stuff so small that she barely even notices it.

Alec always smiles when he sees her. It's nothing new. A smirk, a grin, a quirk of his lips - it's always one of those, usually because he's got some smart-aleck comment on the tip of his tongue that she'll wind up smacking him for.

But one day, it just hits her: he smiles at her now, the kind of smile that reaches his eyes in a way most of his expressions don't.

It takes her a while longer to realize that she smiles at him, too.
