It wasn't being at a dance, which bothered him. Sure, he'd been forced into a suit and hadn't completely willingly attended the party at Kid's house, but it wasn't entirely awful, he guessed. The music was relaxing, as far as it went, and Maka was enjoying herself with the gang, which meant he had to as well. She was even more lax with Black Star than usual. He left her with them and went to ensure the music wasn't completely horrendous - at least he could manage that.

Taking a break from everyone, Maka headed out to the balcony, ironically, the last place she and Soul had talked during a dance. But he wasn't there this time; he was off messing with music and generally talking and being sociable. She frowned out into the night.

The orchestra struck up a slow song.

Maka sighed, listening to the winding music, an element of her weapon's style secretly hidden in each measure. She glanced back at the doorway, the curtains falling in the light breeze to mask her secret hideaway. The music still found its way to her ears, though, and soon her feet began to sway and tap with the rhythm. She moved slowly, arms out as if floating on the stars.

Her hands went up to the sky; her movements began to be taken over by the enchanting melody. It was a beautiful song. Her eyes closed and she let the music take her steps even faster, the notes a different sort of insanity. The music wasn't for the dance anymore, but a melody in her heart, echoing and rebounding within her soul. Her body responded, a pulsating soul surrounding her.

Everything was in that moment, the world a tiny speck of a girl with music in her heart and a dance in her soul. It didn't require a lead or steps, it was simply what she wanted, never the same twice.

She was so taken in by this different sort of chaos that she missed the gentle swaying of the curtains and the clicking of soles on stone. Before she could think to stop, two hands fell onto her waist and curled around a free hand. Instead of taking the music alone, and swaying with it, there was a lead. She fell into it, wide green eyes opening.

White hair and red eyes met her, a different sort of look in his eyes.

Her body was swept along with his rhythm, slightly different, she could tell. Her eyes could see his soul, a rebellious one, but cooperative nonetheless. Her open hand fell to his shoulder, and the music flowed through them, rebounding in a new type of resonance. A word wasn't spoken though the timing was slow enough to allow it. Instead, they simply kept dancing with the music, each step an echo across their hearts.

No one was watching them, no spotlight for the pair to be singled out with.

Before long, the song ended, spiraling notes fading into silence.

His arms fell from her, an honest smile played on his face. A blush spread across Maka's cheeks, "How long were you watching?"

Soul turned to leave. He glanced back, "Long enough to know you needed a partner." With that, his form disappeared back between the curtains, leaving a girl and her thoughts on a balcony.
