31. Their First Ever Date
Rose was numb. And shocked.
Maybe a little thrilled - scratch that, very thrilled!
And also very, very confused.
"Are you sure?" she asked Healer Laura Boot, her voice no louder than a hoarse whisper. She was currently seated in Mungo's at a fellow healer's office who was a specialist in maternal and child care health. And the said specialist had confirmed that Rose Weasley, as in she, was indeed pregnant.
"The test results have a 100% accuracy, Rose," she replied, looking amused. After glancing quickly at the report, she said, "Looks like you're about six weeks along. Was this pregnancy that unexpected?"
"Very much so!" Rose cried out, now trying to take long breaths to calm self. She looked at Amelia who was seated in the chair next to her; she was currently playing with a magnifying glass when she looked up to grin at her mother.
The little girl was going to be a big sister.
Wow!
Rose let out another long breath.
This was really happening.
"Are you alright, Rose?" asked Laura cautiously, reaching out towards the glass of water in front of her. "Do you want some water?"
"I'm good. I'm good," replied Rose lightly, fanning herself. This room was suddenly too hot.
The emotional upheaval she was currently undergoing? It had razed her to bits.
She wanted to laugh, and cry, and yell at the world for being so complicated.
Had Scorpius been beating himself up over nothing?
"Incredible how things still feel the same after three years!"
Rose looked at Laura sharply, raising her eyebrows.
"When you discovered you were pregnant with Amelia. Ring any bells? I thought you'd faint in my room."
Rose nodded silently, a similar memory from three years ago hitting her. She'd been hyperventilating when she confirmed the results with Laura; she had been happy as well as heartbroken. She had no idea about what to do next, she'd contemplated manically about if she should reach out to Ryan and inform him that he's becoming a father, and how she'd break the news to her parents, and how terrified she'd been of Albus's and Lily's reactions. She'd been a complete wreck back then.
Funny how fate ensured that she eventually reached out to Amelia's real father to help her raise her.
Oh, Scorpius.
She imagined how he'd feel when she would tell him the news. He would be ecstatic, right?
Imagining the joy on his face turned the unsettling nervousness had suddenly turned into unbridled happiness - they were having another baby!
She couldn't wait to tell Scorpius about this!
She remembered how heartbroken he'd been when he'd found that they couldn't possibly have kids together, and that had certainly put some strain in their relationship. Even though Amelia turned out to be a true-blooded Malfoy and Scorpius loved her to death, irrespective of the matter, there was no doubt how elated he'd be when he would find out about the newest addition to the Weasley-Malfoy household.
But Rose also needed answers. She wanted to know if there was a logical reasoning behind this incident, or was it what many would believe - magic.
It would help break the news accordingly to Scorpius.
"Is Healer Waltham in today?" Rose asked Laura urgently, surprising her, "Or Healer Kerensky."
"I think Healer Kerensky is in today." said Laura thoughtfully. Just as the words had escaped her mouth, Rose picked up Amelia, ready to rush.
"Alright," she said hurriedly, her mind all over the place, "Okay- I'm going to go and meet Kerensky right now. He'd have some answers. And thank you so much for the confirming the - well - the news. And it would be great if you don't tell anyone yet. Need to speak to my husband first."
"Of course! Confidentiality!" said Laura, smiling. She mimed zipping her mouth close.
Rose shot her a grateful smile and took off hurriedly towards Kerensky's office, feeling extremely lightheaded.
She was going to be a mother again. Scorpius would be a father again.
They were having a baby together. Again.
Life certainly knew how to sweep the rug under her feet.
Rose was a little nervous as she entered the Ministry of Magic, Amelia fidgeting in her arms. She was unsure about taking her daughter to the Ministry, but since it was a weekend, she supposed there won't be much staff around. When she was young, she too had been to the Ministry many at times over the weekends when her parents had to work.
Her meeting with Healer Kerensky had been quick. He'd stated that the Scorpius's medicines were expected to eventually lead to infertility, and if she had gotten pregnant now, means the side effects would take its time to implement. And even in the upcoming year or two, there was still a chance that they could get pregnant - the chance was very small, but it was still there.
Rose's mouth had dried up as Kerensky had gone on.
They'd been rather quick with making judgement, hadn't they?
She checked her watch. It was almost two in the afternoon - Scorpius should have wrapped up by now. In the morning before they left for their respective workplaces, they'd decided to meet up at the Ministry. He'd predicted that he would be done by lunch.
Hopefully, he would be at his desk, waiting for her, done with his work.
She headed towards the elevator to take her to Level two, half thinking about how to break the news to Scorpius.
Should she tell him now, here at the Ministry? Or should she wait till they are home, or should she wait till tonight after the date?
The elevator slowed itself as they reached level two, and she got off, happy to see the near empty corridors, populated only by a figure or two walking around in cloaks. She soon reached the Auror department, the blood red letters of the nameplate standing out sharply against the black background.
She breathed deeply as she saw the door to the room where Albus, Scorpius, and Chris sat. This was it.
She set Amelia down, and gently guided her towards the room. Amelia happily waddled towards the office, almost as if familiar with the space.
Rose started when she suddenly heard laughter coming in from their room. There was a feminine shriek, surprising her, followed by more laughter.
She hesitated before knocking on the door, and turned the door knob when she heard Chris call "Come in!"
As she walked in, she noted Scorpius's back facing her. He stood in front of what she presumed was a filing cabinet. Albus had been reclining on a chair and had his feet propped up on a table. And right in the corner diagonally opposite was Chris, and to her great surprise, Erin Wellington, her classmate from Hogwarts.
"Oh my - Rose!", squealed Erin happily, before rushing towards her and engulfing her in a hug.
"Hi - Erin," exclaimed Rose in surprise, returning the hug before Erin pulled back.
"It's so good to see you again, Rose!" said Erin, squeezing her hand gently, "It's been so long. And-" she paused, her eyes widening in wonder as she noticed Amelia for the first time. The little girl was looking up back at her, grinning. "Is that-?"
"This is Amelia." said Rose softly, introducing her daughter. Amelia instead reached out to her mother, wrapping her arms around her legs and looking up curiously at the tall lady in front of her.
"Wow!" exhaled Erin in awe, bending down on her heels to meet Amelia's eye level. She extended her hand which Amelia shook cautiously. "She looks like the perfect blend of her parents. She's beautiful!"
"That she is," came Scorpius's voice
Rose's eyes flitted towards her husband, who was now beaming at them so wholeheartedly that her insides glowed.
How was he so perfect?
"Motherhood looks good on you. You look amazing!" said Erin softly, getting up and smiling down at her.
Rose snorted in disbelief. Amazing wasn't the right word she'd use for herself at the moment. She felt and looked far older than she actually was, was suddenly aware of her stretch marks and the body that had softened after Amelia's birth. Not to mention the bright orange Chudley Cannons jumper she was donning underneath her coat which clashed horribly with her hair- she probably looked like a train wreck next to Erin, who looked nothing less than a celebrity.
Gosh, she should have dressed better when stepping out, least of all to feel more confident when she accidentally ran into her stunning looking classmates from school.
"Oh she is absolutely stunning," announced Scorpius, his eyes twinkling as he walked towards her. She barely registered him bending down to kiss her cheek, setting it aflame. Chuckling at her reaction, he then quickly picked up Amelia and took her to his seat.
Rose sensed the butterflies fluttering around in her stomach again, registering the big news again.
A year down the line, there will be another one with them.
Will it a baby boy or a baby girl?
Will it have a platinum Malfoy mop or the Weasley red?
Okay, she needed to speak to Scorpius at the earliest.
Rose suddenly registered Erin looking at her curiously, making her feel conscious.
"Still can't believe that you guys are together - and not just together. Married!" said Erin, shaking her head. "I mean it was so obvious back in school, but the two of you just seemed so oblivious. Felt it'd be years before one of you came to your senses. Who made the first move?"
"Oh isn't that a question worth millions of galleons!" said Albus, guffawing. Scorpius, she noted, had turned pink and busied himself with showing Amelia his table.
"Let's just say it was a mutual understanding to take the plunge," said Rose slowly. Albus let out another snort, making her glare at him. Scorpius, however, was looking back at her rather softly, making her heart flutter.
Okay seriously, her heart was out of control around Scorpius today.
She quickly asked Erin, "So what are you doing here? I thought you were in Bulgaria!"
"I am. Had been coming by to sort out some regulatory work here at the Ministry, and right now, I have a date with Mr. Chris Thomas here so came to pick him up."
"Damn right she does," said Chris gleefully, jumping up from his seat. He then turned to Scorpius, "Seriously, mate. You're okay with me going out with her. I know she was your ex-girlfriend and all-"
Rose looked at Scorpius bemusedly, who bore a rather incredulous look on his face as he looked at his colleague. "I'm happily married and have a kid as well, and Erin and I dated when we were seventeen, so you'd think that I have moved on." he said slowly. Chris gave him a thumbs up.
Erin simply rolled her eyes, before turning to Rose.
"We should catch up the next time I'm in town," she said sincerely, while Chris joined them, donning his coat and ready to leave.
"Done!" Rose grinned, "Have a lovely date, you both!"
The couple nodded at Rose as they left. She noted the happy gait in Chris as he walked down the corridor, hand in hand with Erin. According to Scorpius, the break up with his fiancee had hit him hard. It was absolutely lovely to see him so happy again.
"It took him two weeks of shameless flirting before he finally mustered the courage to ask her out. Such a happy little tosser he's become."
Rose nearly jumped, startled at Scorpius's voice next to her.
"Sure there aren't any lingering feelings, Mr Malfoy?" she teased, waggling her eyebrows at him. He chuckled.
"There are some lingering feelings for sure," he said lightly. The glint in his eyes suddenly turned feral. "But they are certainly not for Erin, and not at all innocent."
The heat in his eyes shot through to her core.
"Okay," she breathed, transfixed by his lips that was turning up into a smirk. She felt extremely hot around the collars, her mind screaming at her to pull him down for a searing kiss. And maybe push him onto his desk and yank off that tie-
She was turned on. Big time.
Or was it the pregnancy hormones?
Pregnant, right. She needed to tell Scorpius now.
Just then a memo came zooming into their office and stopped in front of Scorpius. He reached out and opened it.
"Ah, they've called me in for the final review," he sighed, grimacing. He looked apologetic. "I'm sorry, Rose, but you may have to wait - or why don't you just go home? It's pointless staying here. Don't know how long it'll take. They've just been dragging it out for weeks and today as well."
"I'll be fine," said Rose, placing her hand on his forearm in a reassuring manner, "Besides Al's here - "
Both turned to look at Albus, who had now dozed off in his chair, his head lolling off the headrest. Amelia was in his lap, tapping on the table lightly with a pen.
"Or maybe I'll leave in a bit. Someone seems too sleepy to be in a chatty mood," said Rose dryly, before she smiled at Scorpius "You go ahead. Kill it in the review. And all the best!"
"Thanks!" he grinned, squeezing her hand affectionately, "I'll be home as soon as I am done. Can't wait for tonight." he finished, a lightness to his tone.
"Me neither," she replied softly, trying to suppress the maddening grin that was threatening to split her face into halves
As Scorpius left, Rose walked towards Albus and tapped him lightly on his leg.
"I'm up!" he yelled, jerking awake, startling Amelia and making Rose giggle.
"Long night?" she asked sympathetically.
"Yeah," said Albus tiredly, rubbing his eyes, "Frank is not Franklin. He's bloody Frankenstein! He woke us up in the middle of the night, and was up until wee hours of the day. Had to force Elora to go to sleep once she fed him - she's exhausted. Had to be here in the morning for the stupid closing statements for our mission. Rose, please tell me it gets better!"
"In a few months, if you're lucky," giggled Rose, making him groan. Once the giggles subsided, she asked concernedly, "Are you sure you both will be able to babysit Amy tonight?"
"Of course! It's a big night for you," exclaimed Albus, almost looking offended. He then looked at the girl in his lap who was now tugging at his tie, "Amy is good girl. She is a responsible little soul who gives me no trouble. Yeah Amy?"
"Yesss!" said Amelia, flashing him her teeth.
"Besides I think she'll be a great elder sister."
Rose's heart skipped a beat. "What?" she croaked, her eyes widening.
"To Frank?" said Albus, looking curiously at her, "You should have seen her yesterday at the party. So gentle around him. She may actually be a great baby sitter. Probably takes after you."
Rose chuckled.
"You should get home, Al," she said, checking her watch. It was half past two. "Get some rest. You may just have a long night ahead."
"Yeah, you are right," said Albus, shrugging. He caught hold of Amelia in his arms and got up. "Feels like it was just yesterday that Elora told me that we were having a baby. And now I already have a little tyke at home."
"How far along was she again, when she told you?" she asked, unconsciously touching her lower stomach.
"About four weeks," replied Albus, getting up and wearing his coat. He suddenly bore a goofy smile on his face, as if reminiscing that day, "One of the best days of my life really. Cheers to that woman for making the announcement so dramatic. Shrinking all my pajamas super small, and then.."
"Memorable," Rose mumbled absentmindedly, zoning out.
Should she also do something like that, instead of simply announcing it to Scorpius?
Should she make a momentous gesture as well?
It was a huge deal for them after all.
She was brought back to reality when Albus shook her.
"What?" she snapped, then looked apologetic. It wasn't his fault
"Merlin Rose! Way to zone out!" he chuckled. His eyes then dropped to her stomach, and he frowned.
"Rose. Are you okay?" he asked cautiously.
"Yeah why?" she replied, a little nervous at the look on Albus's face. He had that look on his face, where he was putting two and two together.
"Cause that's like the third time you're holding your stomach like that since you came here. All good?"
Her face coloured. Damn! She didn't realise she'd been doing that.
"Yes, yes! I am fine. I am totally fine." she trilled, swallowing hard.
"You're lying!" exclaimed Albus, narrowing his eyes.
"What?! No!" she exclaimed, her pulse rate shooting up.
"I am trained to detect lies and forgery, Rose. And you have a clear tell. You're absolutely lying right now."
"No I am not lying - thank you very much!"
What was giving her away?!
"Your voice is shrill and your ears are bright red! You're hiding something. Are things okay between you and Scorpius?"
"Yes yes. More than fine." snapped Rose indignantly, now covering up her belly even more with her coat
"Then what's bothering you?"
"Nothing! Everything's fine. I just need to talk to Scorpius-"
"Are you pregnant?"
Rose stared back at his sharp expression. She opened her mouth to reply and then shut it.
Really, what else could she say? Deny it?
Albus's eyes widened in shock when no response came his way.
"HOLY CRAP! YOU'RE PREGNANT!" he bellowed, startling Amelia who was now sharing at him in shock.
"Sssshhh! Quiet!" hissed Rose, flushing furiously, "Scorpius doesn't know yet - and how did you figure that out?"
"Scorpius had told me that you were at Mungo's this morning and that you hadn't been feeling well and the whole stomach thing. Could have been a stomach infection - but this was a wild guess!" sputtered Albus, his eyes comically wide, "Elora did that stomach gesture thing a lot in her early days of pregnancy. But Merlin's baggy y-fronts! You and Scorpius are having another kid?"
"Yes!" she said after a pause, her face breaking into a smile for the first time since the news was dropped on her. Her insides suddenly felt light. She and Scorpius were having another baby. "Somehow, against all odds, we're pregnant. Had planned to tell him now - but looks like he'll be busy for a bit."
Albus looked at her gleefully, almost bouncing on his toes with excitement.
"Tell him tonight after the date." he said urgently, his eyes shining.
Rose was taken aback. "What? Why wait till then?"
"Have this night to yourselves, Rose! This date is meant to be about you. Besides I know you're thinking of a way to break the news to him," he said, a knowing glint in his eyes, "Trust me on this - it'll be the perfect way to wrap up your night. You'll realise it yourself."
She gazed back at him, the realization sinking in, "You know where he's taking me!"
"Of course I do! Helped him with the restaurant choice as well - it's about time my best friends start involving me in their plans!"
"We're not kids, Al!" said Rose, highly amused, "Just maybe sometimes, some things need to be between a husband and a wife."
"Hey!" snapped Albus, surprising her, "You guys kept me out of the loop for what was probably the most important thing to ever happen in your relationship - which was important for our dynamics as well. Try and be nice to the man who's seen the two of you dancing around each other in absolute oblivion for the last fifteen years."
Rose shook her head. "Fine," she conceded, before extending her arms towards Amelia. The little girl easily slipped into her mother's arms.
Which is when Albus engulfed her in a tight hug.
"I'm so happy for you guys!" came his muffled yet happy voice, "You both deserve this happiness, and so much more."
Rose returned the hug, her eyes prickling.
Everything was just falling into place, wasn't it? It was terrifying for her. She was struggling to believe that all of it was real.
"He's really nervous about the date, you know?" came Albus's amused voice.
"Really?" asked Rose smiling softly as she pulled away from the embrace. Scorpius being nervous just seemed so unusual for her.
"Yeah. Trying to sort out the perfect place to head for dinner, donning the right clothes. He asked me if he should wear navy or grey or if a tie would look good on him. It's nauseatingly cute when you realise that he's this nervous about his date with his wife."
"Oh come on!" she exclaimed, trying to suppress her smile this little anecdote and sighing internally. This was so sweet. "It's our first date! Cut him some slack."
"Ooh, look at you, getting all defensive. Maybe he isn't the only one getting some pre-date jitters!" teased Albus, cocking his head slightly. She only rolled her eyes in response, smiling nevertheless. "I don't blame you. You guys are going to get some tonight!"
"Wha-", Rose squawked indignantly while a furious blush overtook her face. While her hormones had been dictating her to shag Scorpius well on his work table, she had to be a bit more practical as well. They probably needed more time before jumping into bed together. She steeled herself, ready to clarify, "No we are not. It's just the first date, I am not sure-" she began, but clearly Albus was in a different mood right now.
"Rosie and Scorpy sitting in a tree, SHA-G-G-"
"Alright! I am leaving now!" she announced, now walking towards the door while Albus roared with laughter behind her.
"And to think I believed I would never see the day when I would be able to sing this for you guys!" he called out as he caught up with her and linked arms with her, still laughing.
Rose shook her head, part annoyed, part amused.
Idiot.
She was finally done dressing up for the evening.
Was she though?
"What do you think, Amy? Does Mamma look pretty?" asked Rose apprehensively, turning around to look at her daughter. Amelia was currently with a book that played a new song with every turned page. Amelia looked up and grinned at her, "Pretty!" she piped.
Rose chuckled, before bending forward to kiss her daughter on her head.
She turned back to the mirror, trying to see herself from different angles. The white dress she was donning looked simple and hugged her torso snugly before fitting loosely around her waist and hips. The dress even had pockets. It looked great on her.
Only if her breasts weren't such a problem.
In her early teens, she had horribly upset about the delay in her breasts appearing - every girl in her year seemed to have had switched to an adult bra by the beginning of the fourth year. They finally the turned up towards the end of the fourth year, and kept growing for a while. She had been highly pleased and enjoyed being voluptuous.
But as she grew older, she realised the price - the annoying stares, the backaches, the serious lack of flattering clothes, and of course, limited opportunities to remain braless.
The biggest challenge she faced was when she got pregnant with Amelia and they ballooned up, remaining sore and uncomfortable. And now while she was stepping out for the biggest date of her life, the two idiotic melons had to just grow larger and peek out of the v-shaped neckline so obviously while being ridiculously sore, that she was so fricking annoyed and pissed. She wasn't sure of clothing charms to help improvise on her neckline. Lily probably could have helped her out, but Rose didn't really want to reach out.
The last thing she wanted to feel was conscious as she stepped out for her first date in ages. Sure, she had a couple of other dresses but none other seemed to be perfect for this evening. And she wanted to look perfect.
For Scorpius.
It didn't help that she knew he would look fantastic tonight. Scorpius Malfoy in formal wear was a major weakness for her - had always been so. He always looked good, but there was something about the sharp cuts of the blazer, smooth fit of his well-tailored trousers, and the crisp shirt he donned that just made him look unbelievably sexy.
She had to match his grace and perfection. She couldn't look odd next to him.
It also made her a little nervous that she didn't know where they were going
Did this dress make the cut? Or was she overdressed? Will the breasts peeking out be a problem?
Grumbling, she decided to check with Scorpius, if the clothing she wore was appropriate for where they were going. Last thing she wanted to do dress up like this only to realise that Scorpius was taking her to a fast food restaurant.
Given the situation, it wasn't likely, but given their friendship and banter, she wouldn't put it past him.
She was ready anyway - hair nicely tied up in a chignon bun, emerald earrings that were a gift from her parents, makeup sorted.
Slipping into her heels she walked towards Scorpius's room, breathing deeply. He'd arrived just an hour prior, muttering hurried apologies and rushing to his room to get ready. But she knew he wouldn't need much help. She consciously tugged at her neckline, trying to pull it up. Or should she just let it be?
Okay, she shouldn't set her expectations up. She could be looking too plain as well. Which is why it was important to check with him.
It's okay, she shouldn't expect much from his reaction.
She reached his room and knocked on the door. "Scorpius?" she called softly, her insides feeling like she'd swallowed live snakes.
She heard him on the other side of the door and her stomach suddenly bottomed out.
Why on earth was she so nervous?!
Just then Scorpius opened the door and her mouth fell open.
He looked spectacular.
He was dressed in a three-piece dark grey suit - a muggle suit, she realised with a jolt - with a burgundy tie. He'd pushed back his hair and he smelt heavenly. She ached to run her fingers over those broad shoulders, but it was his eyes that stopped her heart and made her stomach churn violently.
They were wide open in awe, and were unabashedly drinking in the sight of her.
Rose felt her breath hitch as his eyes darkened.
"Hi," he breathed, his voice deeper than usual. A small smile appeared on his face, twisting up into a smirk as his eyes roved over appreciatively.
"Hi," she replied, suddenly feeling rather shy. She could sense his eyes moving all over her. She felt like she was being scanned.
He probably couldn't see the dark green and silver lingerie she was wearing underneath that she just happened to find in her closet.
It supported the deep neckline really well and also was very comfortable. She'd bought this a few months ago when Scorpius had still been out on his mission - just to clarify.
It did not mean that she was hoping that they'd shag tonight, thank you very much.
Not at all.
Absolutely not.
"Guess who'll be going home with the most beautiful woman at the restaurant." smirked Scorpius, raising his eyebrows as he leaned against the door, hands tucking into his pockets, looking so good that Rose felt herself struggling to breathe.
She flushed red, nervously tucking a stray curl behind her ears.
He was looking at her like he would eat her up.
Okay, so dark green lingerie, just in case.
"I hope this works for wherever we are going, I know it works " said Rose, trying her hardest to not sound nervous. Scorpius's gaze softened.
"You look perfect, Rose," he said, sounding surprised, as if he couldn't believe she had to ask that. "Simply perfect."
She knew he meant what he said. And the gaze of wonderment he had as he looked at her was twisting her insides in the most bizarrely delightful way.
Okay, not bad. He was impressed. One moment at a time.
"Okay," she replied, her face breaking into a grin.
"I was just about to pick up Amy's toys from her room," smiled Scorpius, now straightening up and closing the door to his room behind him. "She's done with dinner right?"
"Yes. She was surprisingly very obedient about her 'goop' this time." said Rose, laughing softly.
"Alright then. So I'll drop her off at Albus's. Meanwhile if there's anything else you'd like to pick up, do that. And I'll see you downstairs?"
"Okay, right." Rose nodded, her nerves tingling with excitement about what the night had in store for them.
Scorpius picked Amelia up from her room while she picked up her purse and walked downstairs to the fireplace.
She sat on the sofa patiently as Scorpius and Amelia disappeared in the flames. She exhaled deeply, trying to calm her nerves.
It was no big deal. It was just a date with her husband.
Just the first date. With a man she'd loved for fifteen years.
With her husband to whom she'd inform tonight that they were having a baby again.
And the butterflies returned at full force, smattering wildly within.
Rose groaned, burying her face in her hands.
Why couldn't she keep cool? Why was she putting herself under so much pressure?
A minute later, the doorbell rang, alarming her.
Who would be ringing the bell at this hour? The only neighbours they interacted with were currently out of town.
Rose got up and walked towards the door cautiously. Just as she was about to lean forward to check through the peep hole, she heard Scorpius's voice from outside. "Hey, it's me. Open up."
A quick glance into the peephole confirmed that it was indeed Scorpius on the other side, leaning forward and peering bemusedly at the peephole.
What the-?
She opened the door, feeling very confused, only to see Scorpius at the porch, holding a bouquet of white roses. His face broke into a wide smile on seeing her.
"What's going on?" she exclaimed, feeling pleasantly surprised.
"I'm here to pick up my date," he smiled, coming forward and handing her the bouquet. She held her breath as he bent down to kiss her cheek, "You look absolutely beautiful, Weasley." he said, his eyes locking onto hers.
Rose peered at him over the bouquet shyly, her mind hazy as she drank in his presence.
Collecting herself, she said, looking up at him through her eyelashes, "Thank you for the flowers, Malfoy. They are absolutely lovely."
Scorpius's right hand moved forward, his fingers brushing lightly over the cloth material at her waist. She bit her lip to suppress her moan.
"Tried to conjure the shade closest to your dress. Looks like I made it," he murmured, glancing at her dress before his eyes moved up and caught hers. He shot her a lopsided grin. "Ready to go?"
Rose shook herself, mentally scolding herself for losing herself in his eyes.
"Just a second," she piped, before stepping in through the door to gently place the bouquet on a nearby vase, and pick up a coat to wear.
When she turned back, Scorpius had held his hand out and was looking at her expectantly.
"Come on," he smirked, his blue eyes glinting in the dark.
Rose placed her hand in his, feeling very nervous. She felt her heart skip a few beats as Scorpius held onto her hand intimately and tugged her forward.
"Where are we going?" she asked curiously.
"All in good time," he simply replied.
Her eyes widened as they stopped in front of their car, which looked like it had recently been cleaned and polished.
"We're driving to the restaurant?" she gushed, her eyes wide in amazement. Scorpius winked at her and tugged her over to the passenger side, opening the door for her.
Rose slid into the seat, now positively beyond herself. She was extremely excited about wherever he was taking her. They only took the car when Amelia was travelling with them.
So this was new.
Few seconds later, Scorpius slid into the driver seat.
"Oh, we're going somewhere super fancy, aren't we? Is a muggle place?" asked Rose excitedly, barely being able to suppress her glee. She'd always preferred to go out to low-key, no frills dining places. But going to a fancy restaurant all dolled up wasn't a bad idea.
"You'll find out" was the only reply she got.
"We're dining at La Riveraine?!" Rose nearly screeched in surprise, making Scorpius chortle. He carefully stopped the car at the front of the restaurant, where he could see valet ready to help out. He quickly turned to look at Rose, who was peering at the restaurant in awe and excitement and he felt himself relax; he'd made the right choice.
Finding the perfect restaurant for their date had been a nerve-wrecking affair. The ambiance had to be perfect. He knew a lot of fine-dine wizarding hotels, but he was also skeptical, given that Rose always abhorred going to expensive places, calling them too flashy. At the same time, the venue had to be perfect for them. They'd had enough picnics, enough coffee dates by the fire. It was time to dress up and put the best foot forward.
Thankfully, he'd reached out to Albus, who'd helped him come to choose the current restaurant, also known as the most famous muggle restaurant in today's times. It was established by some wizards nearly thirty years ago and in recent years had gained massive popularity in muggle as well as the wizarding community. The muggles couldn't get enough of the 'magical' atmosphere, and the wizarding world loved the subtle mix of magic that made the ambiance grander than the traditional restaurants.
The place often had a wait-list that went into months. Scorpius too tried to get through when he dropped by two days ago but had been swiftly declined. But a quick letter from Albus, and the restaurant had opened up a spot for them - the Potters still had a huge pull in the wizarding world.
They walked up to the host staff at the main door who was standing behind a podium. On reaching, Scorpius spoke, "We have a booking for eight PM. Malfoy, table for two. For outdoor seating."
The staff smiled politely at them before checking his notes, and within a second, a server named Devon arrived to guide them to the table.
Scorpius could hear Rose's gasp as they wound around tables towards their destination - their own little private deck in the corner facing the Thames.
"Wow!" she gasped, taking in the view of the twinkling lights of the city, the gentle rush of the river, the magnificently decorated table for them. She paused on noticing the candles. "Are these vanilla cinnamon scented candles?" she asked, looking at Scorpius in surprise. He could only smile back in response while silently thanking the restaurant team for customising their experience.
There was something so wholesome about Rose's happiness right now that he was simply overwhelmed. It had been a while since he'd seen her this joyous in awe and wonderment.
Her happiness was infectious. He could feel warmth bloom inside his heart and the smile on his face that refused to go away.
They quietly sat on the chairs, facing each other. Rose had seemingly been rendered speechless. Feeling extremely pleased, Scorpius reveled in her joy.
They really needed this night. She really needed this night.
After ages it seemed, Rose looked at him, "Well done, Malfoy," she chirped, looking mighty impressed, "You certainly know how to treat your ladies."
"My woman," he corrected her, and it thrilled him to see faintest hints of a blush appear at the top of her cheeks.
For a moment he got distracted by the stray curl by the neck that swayed happily in the breeze, brushing against her neck every few seconds.
Fuck, he wanted to kiss her neck so bad. It looked bloody delectable.
Perhaps, Rose had realised that he was staring at her, for she leaned back in her chair, her reddening face dipping slightly, the ghost of a small smile lurking on her face.
He needed to stop staring, but how on earth was he supposed to stop doing that?
She looked like a fucking goddess.
Scorpius knew how his heart rate shot through the roof when he saw her outside his door, looking so graceful and beguiling. The need to sweep her in his arms and kiss her deeply had become painfully unbearable; so much so he had to tuck his hands in pockets from reaching out to her and pulling her in. The love he felt for her blossomed violently inside him, overwhelming his mind and heart.
Scorpius got the feeling that he would be in this turmoil all night.
Breathing deeply, he looked away to the menu card placed on the table. The last thing he wanted to do was make her uncomfortable.
"It looks so different from what I remember." he heard Rose say.
"You've been here before?" asked Scorpius, grateful to her for starting the conversation.
She nodded. "I was maybe six, seven. We had a grand dinner in one of the private rooms here with the Potters. This place had been more low-key back then. But I guess you've to change with the times," She sighed, looking around, "It looks stunning now. How did you even decide this place?"
"Well, Albus Potter happened." he said truthfully. "I told him what I wanted. And he got us a reservation here."
"Ah," she replied, "He'd talked about it earlier today. Thought he was just taking the mickey."
Scorpius's pulse quickened. Hopefully, he hadn't gone too much into the details. "He told you about tonight?"
"Yeah, just that he helped you choose a restaurant. Kudos to you to listening to him! I thought you'd take me to a fast food joint."
"I'd thought about it," he replied playfully, earning him a mock glare from Rose which made him laugh.
Just then Devon appeared with their bottle of wine that Scorpius had pre-ordered.
"Who ordered for this?" asked Rose, looking part worried and part panicky.
"I had done it," said Scorpius slowly, a little unnerved at Rose's jumpy response to what he knew was her favourite wine "Is everything alright? I thought you loved elderflower wine"
"I do. It's just that I can't have wine," she replied a little nervously. She wasn't making eye contact, alarming Scorpius. "It's just not recommended-"
Scorpius remembered that she'd gone to Mungo's and nearly facepalmed himself. Why hadn't he been more considerate?
"I'm sorry for assuming things!" he exclaimed, leaning forward and grabbing her left hand that was resting on the table. He looked apologetically at Devon. "I don't think we'll be having this. Apologies for any inconvenience. But thank you so much for bringing it here. We should be ready to order for dinner in five minutes."
The attendant nodded and left their table. He turned to Rose and gently squeezed her hand.
"Is everything okay? You haven't said anything about your visit to Mungo's." he asked concernedly, searching her face for answers.
She shrugged, waving her free hand. "Oh it's nothing!" she replied lightly, squeezing his hand in return, "Everything is well. I am healthy. I just need to stay off any alcoholic drinks for a while. It won't suit - well - my hormones. It has been off balance for about six weeks now."
"Alright" Scorpius conceded. What else should he say to that? Rose was now peering at his face cautiously, making him feel conscious. "Do I have something on my face?"
Rose shot him a small smile. "No no. It's nothing. So let's order, yeah?"
After skimming through the menu for a minute, Rose announced, "So shrimp canapes and bourride for me!"
Scorpius looked at her, surprised, "I thought you didn't like seafood much."
"Hormones," replied Rose simply, quirking her eyebrow at him.
After placing their orders, both turned to look at each other.
"So..." said both at the same time before bursting into nervous laughter, calming Scorpius; to think he was the only one who was nervous about this.
"I'll admit: this is a lot fancier than what I thought our first ever date would be," said Rose sheepishly, biting her lip.
While he was shamelessly distracted by her lip-biting, another thing she said caught his attention.
"Really? What did you think our first date would be like?" asked Scorpius, leaning forward.
Rose looked taken aback at this question. "Like now? Or before? Like at Hogwarts?"
Scorpius's smile broadened. "Before would actually be lovely."
"Well," she started slowly, tracing the rim of the glass with her fingers, "I'd say we would have had our first date by our spot by the Great Lake."
"Really?" he asked, surprised, "You didn't think we'd head down to Hogsmeade and have a lunch date?"
"If we'd gotten back together at school, I think we would have wanted that privacy. People spread rumours about us all the time I have a million cousins, plus there was your fan club that would have wanted to jinx me if they'd out that we'd been shagging in your bed-"
Scorpius smirked. There was the opening he needed. He needed to flirt with her. "Shagging in my bed? Looks like you have given this a lot of thought, Weasley. I'd love to hear more of these shagging fantasies." he finished casually, as if it was no big deal.
Rose's expression suddenly turned devious. Scorpius was sure he was about to love what she was going to say.
She leaned forward, resting her elbows on the table and looking straight into his eyes.
"Oh you don't want me started on the fantasies I have had, Scorpius." she said, her voice a deeper octave and stance extremely confident. Scorpius suddenly found himself very turned on. "Among the more tame ones I've had, there was this one where you struggled to walk back to your dormitory because of how we shagged at the top of the astronomy tower. All night."
His mind was immediately bombarded with images that made him breathless.
His fingers tangled in her hair.
Their lips desperately reaching out to each other.
The glow on her face in the moonlight.
The blinding heat between their bodies.
The softness of her skin on his.
The feel of her nails digging into his back.
The sound of her soft moans as she cried out his name.
Fuck.
His pants suddenly felt too tight. To make it worse, Rose's twisted smile from across him confirmed that she knew how this was affecting him.
It was confirmed: Rose Weasley was a delicious little minx.
She sat back in her seat, looking triumphant. She simply raised her eyebrow at him, as if silently asking if he wanted her to continue.
Scorpius was saved from a response as Devon arrived with their food.
So far, the higher power was on his side. He thanked all of them deeply.
"Do you remember that night on the astronomy tower though, in our sixth year towards the end when we rang in his birthday?" he asked, trying to change the tone as well subdue the very visible erection he was currently sporting.
Her teasing reaction changed into that of pure cringe.
"I remembered the hangover the next morning," she groaned, pinching her forehead, as if reliving the pain. She then dove into her food. "I missed next day's classes. It was so horrible - I don't think I had ever been that disappointed in myself."
Scorpius sniggered at her reaction. He said, "Al and I couldn't stop laughing when we found out. Such a lightweight you were!".
"I was not!" cried out Rose, glaring at him.
For the next few minutes as they ate their food, they (mostly Rose) heatedly debated whether she was a lightweight when it came to drinking, discussing various incidents from the past. Scorpius shot her a smug grin as he concluded after evaluating many scenarios that Rose was, indeed, a lightweight.
"I could have drunk you under the table tonight," she grumbled as their table was cleared.
Scorpius snorted in response. "You do realise that you're the only one who believes that, right?"
Rose shot him a fake smile before she wiped her mouth with her table cloth.
"Anyhow," chuckled Scorpius, "That was one of the nights when I'd felt that we probably had a moment."
"What do you mean?" asked Rose, her eyebrows furrowing.
"There was this time when all of us were there laughing our heads off," recalled Scorpius. He felt his face heating up as he remembered Rose and him, sitting next to each other, Rose seated one step below him. Albus was ranting about growing older, while he and Rose were overcome with silent giggles. The sight of her bright and beaming face had filled him with so much happiness - he hadn't stopped staring at her. "You'd turned to look at me, and all I could think of was how beautiful you were and how Zabini was a lucky idiot." he finished with a sigh.
Rose's gaze softened, "I think that way there were many such for me." she admitted sheepishly.
"I'd agree with you on the same. There were way too many moments I missed out on when I could have made a move. And we could have been doing this much earlier." he replied with a hint of annoyance. It still pinched him that he could have had this for years. "But thank you for never giving up on me, Rose. I know I wouldn't have known what happiness really was if I hadn't fallen in love with you."
Maybe he had gotten too mushy, for there was a pause, but the shy smile that bloomed on her face afterwards made it all worth it.
Just then, they heard music blare from the inside; both swiftly turning towards the indoor restaurant.
Rose looked at him quizzically, "Do they have live music tonight? They didn't before!"
Scorpius grinned. "I told you we will be dancing tonight. Now if you may-"
He got up and held out his hand, which Rose took as she stood up. He quickly twirled her, making her laugh.
"How did you get so charming?" she said cheekily, as they went indoors and started moving towards a cleared out space right in front of the band.
"I have my days." he shot back, throwing her a wink.
They wove through the seats and dancing pairs to find their spot in the middle of the crowding dance floor.
Scorpius placed his hands on Rose's hips and pulled her closer, noticing how her breath hitched as their bodies brushed against each other. She wrapped her arms around his neck and swayed slowly with the music. They held each others' eyes as they moved, finding it difficult to pull away. Scorpius swore he could drown himself in those trusting eyes of hers that, over time, had become the most beautiful set of eyes he'd ever seen. Right now, they were alight with contentment and happiness, which only made him feel happier.
"So, I guess fancy restaurants aren't a no-no for dinner dates, anymore?" he teased. She merely smiled shyly and shook her head.
"Absolutely not. This is nice," Rose replied, "This is really nice. We should do this more often. Just the two of us."
"Yeah?" asked Scorpius, his eyes widening.
"Yes," she beamed, smiling wide now. "Didn't realise how much we needed this till now."
Scorpius returned her smile, but he stiffened when he felt eyes on him. He spotted a couple in their fifties, seated a few feet away from them, who was unabashedly staring at them. He recognised the man as a senior member from the ministry, and the look he and his wife were throwing them was nothing short of disdainful.
Scorpius felt his insides clench in anger.
"Are you okay?" whispered Rose concernedly.
"It's nothing," he whispered gruffly. "Just spotted a stuck up ministry official who bore some prejudice against the Malfoys. Delayed a lot of my approvals."
"Who is this fool? Want me to give him an earful? You know I would," said Rose, turning her face to find the culprits.
"Really? Rose Weasley willingly looking to get into a confrontation?" he smirked.
"You know I will!" she replied indignantly, her eyes bright.
He knew she was on his side. She'd decided to be on his side on the first day of school in his first year when she'd walked up to him on the Slytherin table and had pompously announced she was Rose Weasley and she thought they should be friends, making Albus nearly pee in excitement and happiness.
And when Rose Weasley was with him, nothing in the world could bring him down.
Not even the past faults associated with his family name.
In his last meeting with Healer Robinson, he'd also come to realise how much he'd blamed his family name for anything that went wrong in his life, refusing to take responsibility for his actions. He'd blamed the accident at Mungo's on the bad luck associated with the Malfoys, rather than accepting that the group of criminals were simply better prepared; that his personal life was eroding because he was a Malfoy, and not because he'd made choices that would worsen his relationship and drive away his daughter and his wife. Over the years as he'd fought against the prejudices against his family name, he'd unconsciously started to attribute everything going in his life to being a Malfoy. It had felt easier to explain the misfortunes than digest the fact that he'd made wrong choices.
But he was learning; he was understanding that maybe Malfoys had had a lot going on for years, but what defined everyone were the choices they made.
His father made a choice to raise his son without instilling any prejudice in his mind. He chose to befriend the son of his father's former enemy at school. He chose to be a good person, a kind soul ready to help out others. He chose to be a husband and a father when it wasn't expected of him.
So why blame his family name anytime anything went wrong? Many things happened because he took the wrong decisions. And there will be times when actions of others will be influenced because of their biases. He could only try to better them. The bad name shall always remain with the family as long as he made mistakes of his forefathers. And he knew that he wasn't born to repeat them.
His father decided to own up to his mistakes to change the way the world looked at the Malfoy name. It was about time he did the same.
He looked down to see Rose still looking up at him curiously.
She was the best thing that had ever happened to him. It was his fault that he almost lost her. And it would be his, and solely his, gain to have her fully back as his best friend and his wife.
He knew she needed to know his latest realisation from his therapy. But tonight was not that night.
Tonight was about them. Rose Weasley and Scorpius Malfoy. Best friends who were in love and married and desperately needed a date night.
"How did I get so lucky to land you as my wife?" sighed Scorpius, looking down at her lovingly.
Rose looked taken aback at the change in the topic. "Maybe your charm and good looks. But definitely that insane night at Enervate." she finished with a giggle.
"What do you think happened that night? The night we hooked up?" asked Scorpius curiously. Even though it had been a while since the truth came to the forefront, they'd actually never addressed it.
Rose shrugged. "I don't know!", she exclaimed, her eyes widening. "It just seems so hard to believe! I wouldn't have ever gotten the courage to make a move on you."
Scorpius raised his eyebrow. "You think I came on to you?" he asked in near disbelief.
Rose looked at him pointedly, as if saying 'obviously'.
He let out a bark of laughter. "Seriously, doubt that Weasley. I was on duty that night!"
"Sure!" she teased, her eyes twinkling, "Scorpius Malfoy has a duty at a club - that sounds as appropriate as it could be."
Scorpius rolled his eyes, while he spun her out.
"Well, Weasley? Let me tell you a little story," he said, rolling her back in his arms and dipping her suddenly. Rose let out a small shriek of surprise. "This dashing young Auror graduate was out to bust a drug ring that apparently its base at that Club. That place was known for its memory wiping cocktails that had caused a lot of trouble for us Aurors. So I was there undercover-" he paused, trying to recall the details of the night. "Had found my suspects in an exclusive seating area. I had intimated two of my partners to keep moving, but I noted one of the bodyguards eyeing me suspiciously, so I started flirting with the girl I was standing next to, and ended up ordering a drink that wiped out the entire night that came after the drink."
Rose looked engrossed in his story. "So when you woke up the next day, you had absolutely no recollection of what happened?" she asked, swaying lightly with the music.
"Nope," he replied, shaking his head. He moved his hand around her waist and pulled her in closer.
Rose nodded, "Yeah same. I just remembered having a lot of drinks with the girls I was out with, and everything else was a blank."
The music had now changed its tempo, playing livelier songs.
"Do you think we danced that night?" asked Scorpius absentmindedly, spinning her around a little faster.
"Probably," she said casually. Then a knowing smile broke on her face. "Actually, very likely. Dancing together certainly seems to trigger hidden passions."
Scorpius's mind flashed back to his birthday few months ago, when the growing tension on the dance floor had culminated into a night of hot shagging every moment of which was still seared in his brain.
"Ah, Miss Weasley," he chided playfully, while internally he was celebrating the lightness of their banter. "Is that a hint at what to expect tonight after the date?"
Rose predictably blushed, but she held her confident attitude, her fingers teasing the hair at the nape of his neck. "Sorry, that's not happening. Nothing before the fifth date, Malfoy."
Scorpius stared at her, flabbergasted. "Fifth?! I have to wait that long before I can even kiss you?!"
Rose looped her arm around his neck as she stood on her tiptoes. "Unless you can convince me otherwise." she breathed in his ear before moving away, a wicked glint sparkling in her eyes.
"Is that a challenge, Weasley?" he growled in her ear as he rolled her in such that her back was touching his torso.
She swiftly turned her face and looked straight up at him with a fierce look that shot a jolt of desire to his groin.
"Bring it on, Malfoy," she smirked.
And then they danced till they were red in their faces. Their eyes came alive, sometimes alighting with laughter when they ended up trying a step that became awkward, sometimes with desire as their bodies brushed against each other more intimately.
Surely, with passing time and every twirl, Scorpius was highly aware of how close their bodies were now, or how her lips were much closer than they had been the entire night; how the swell of her breasts pressed gently against his chest and he held her by her hand and waist and moved to the music. How he found himself reaching out to her, only to find her already reaching out to him as well. They could neither keep their eyes or hands off each other, and he wondered how long it would be before he would combust with the blinding need he felt for her.
The band finished another song; there was a round of applause from the guests. Some chose to exit the dance floor, and some joined them.
Rose turned to him, face all flushed red, chest heaving, "I think I am done." she laughed, trying to catch her breath as she fanned her face, "My feet also need a break-"
"How about one last song?" said Scorpius hurriedly, squeezing her hand lightly. He looked across her to the vocalist at the stage, who curtly nodded on catching his eye.
"Really? You want to dance on one more song? You?" gasped Rose in surprise. "And why are you looking at the -"
The tune suddenly changed to a song that was very familiar to both.
Rose's expression suddenly turned blank at recognition.
"Did you -" she gasped, her eyes searching his in disbelief, "Scorp, that's-"
"Our wedding song," he finished, his voice thick with emotions.
Back when they had been planning their wedding, Rose had recommended playing "Magic Works" by The Weird Sisters as their wedding song, something she had envisioned playing for her wedding. He'd readily agreed, not really caring much about the song then. But when he'd danced with her at their wedding, the meaning and the emotion behind the song, compounded with their situation, had hit him like a speeding broom.
He'd come down to the restaurant in the evening before he headed home just to confirm his reservation and had accidentally run into the band who were setting things up. He'd quickly requested if they could play the song (he'd conveniently said it was their anniversary and he wanted to surprise his wife), and they'd agreed. He'd knew this was the song he'd wanted to dance on with Rose on his date night, especially if the date was going well. It was time that they had a song they called their own.
Rose looked up at him, lips pressed as her eyes bubbled over with emotions.
"So can we dance our final dance?" he asked her, trying to keep his tone light, but she was already placing his hands on her waist and she was moving into his embrace as the music progressed. He noted that her eyes were misting over; he would be lying if he wasn't feeling the same.
"I love you," he whispered, pressing his lips against her forehead. He did. He loved her so much.
"I love you too," she breathed, looking up at him and beaming so widely that he felt her teeth might fall off.
He would never get tired of hearing these words from her.
They moved slowly to the music, reveling in this moment in each other's arms. Rose had been pregnant back then, and he'd been terrified of hurting her with any exuberant dance move, so they mostly swayed, interrupted with slow twirl as the chorus changed. Even though the dance now wasn't much unlike what they'd done back then, he loved how they were now - in each other's arms and happy. There was nothing more he wanted.
As the closing notes of the song came in, he gently rolled her out, before spinning her in and dipping her, causing her to giggle. As she came up a little faster than he anticipated, her nose bumped into his and their lips brushed, making their eyes widen in surprise. Scorpius tried his hardest to suppress the tingles that spread throughout his body as Rose stood upright, tucking loose strands behind her ear. She was flushing furiously, the blush now spread beyond her neck and into that delicious neckline he'd been painfully avoiding gaping at.
"I need to go to the restroom," she said, her voice unnaturally high, "Can you please order a chocolate souffle and poires belle helenes in the meantime? I'll just join you."
While Rose excused herself to the washroom, Scorpius dazedly walked back to his table.
What an evening this was turning out to be!
Merely moments after placing the order for desserts, he noted Devon moving Rose's empty chair right to him.
"Mrs. Malfoy requested it," said Devon promptly, as if reading his mind.
He felt butterflies in his stomach as he heard that. It had been a while since anyone addressed Rose as Mrs. Malfoy.
He nervously patted his coat pocket where he'd kept a small gift for her, which he'd want to gift to her once they were home. Maybe he should keep it in his pant's pockets on the side facing way from Rose, now that she was sitting next to him.
Five minutes later, Rose joined him at the table.
"You just can't resist me, can you?" asked Scorpius, turning himself in his chair to look at her. He'd placed his arm around the backrest of her chair, his fingers just about grazing her shoulders.
"I can't," she replied almost instantly, as if it had slipped out inadvertently. He'd been readying himself for another round of flirty banter. But the honest 'I can't' threw him for a loop. And the way her eyes were twinkling as she looked at him, he knew that she knew.
"That's perfect," he said, nonchalant in his stance, while he was violently trying subdue his urge to kiss her, "Will make it easier to seduce you."
"Now now, Malfoy," she warned lightly, narrowing her eyes at him, "Let's not get too overconfident."
Their desserts arrived. Promptly, Rose lit up in glee. "This looks great, doesn't it?" she breathed, proceeding to pick up her spoon.
"Seducing you isn't the challenge, Rose," sighed Scorpius, watching Rose dig into the souffle and land the spoon in her mouth. Her eyes closed as a moan escaped her throat. He breathed deeply as memories of her wicked mouth undoing him flooded his mind. "The challenge lies in not being able to kiss you and touch you, especially when you have your lips wrapped around the spoon like that."
Rose slowly withdrew her spoon immediately, her face flushing red again.
"Much better," said Scorpius happily, before he took his spoon and dug into the dessert. Her eyes flashed at him in annoyance, causing him to chuckle.
"We never concluded what happened that night, you know?" she said. She spooned out another bite of the souffle. "I still think you came on to me."
Scorpius choked, feeling affronted "How did you come to that conclusion?"
"You know why I wouldn't have made the first move," she looked at him pointedly.
Comprehension dawned on Scorpius. She was avoiding taking Ryan's name.
"So here's a theory," he started slowly, engaging in spoon fight with her over the last bite of the souffle which, to his indignation, she won.
"Go on Malfoy. I am waiting," she said smugly, absentmindedly running her tongue over her lip to wipe off a spot of chocolate, mesmerizing him.
"So let's say, for Merlin knows how, somehow we met at the club, had a drink together, and we're somehow dancing."
"Sure," she prodded, her eyes twinkling with amusement. She placed her elbow on the table and rested her cheek on her fist, silently telling him that he had an audience.
Scorpius leaned closer. "We are there in the middle of the dance floor, dancing together. There is no doubt that we are very happy while dancing together. Maybe I didn't tell you about the special drink we both probably had at some point - it triggers people to do something they'd wanted to do."
Rose's eyebrows raised up. "Many claim that with plain alcohol itself, no?"
Scorpius nodded, "True. But this one was potent. It overwhelmed your senses and really pushed you to go after something you've wanted or wanted to do for a long time - you were powerless against it, your will power, conscience got muted. We'd had so many cases around this - theft, assault - it took us a few weeks to reach this club because people rarely remembered coming to this place."
Her eyes widened, "That's horrible."
"It was," he sighed, remembering the chaos at their office for those three weeks. "The drink had been a double edged sword. Among the people we interviewed, many couples had gotten together because of the drugs; apparently gave them courage to spill their feelings to their now significant other. There were some who even had weddings coming up because the other person proposed. They were actually thankful for making this happen, simply not caring for their memory loss-" he shook his head in disbelief, before looking pointedly at her, his heart racing, "Coming back to us: if we'd been dancing, how do you think it would have been? Do you think it would have been purely platonic? Do you think you would have been dancing much closer than what we had done previously? Do you think that you would have been more vocal about how you felt about me? Even though you were involved with Ryan."
Rose's eyes softened. She looked back at him with an intensity that was making his insides bubble with anticipation.
"Yes," she said quietly after a moment, her eyes baring her soul to him.
Something within him expanded painfully. He knew she was being honest.
She had really loved him for all these years, hadn't she?
His hand reached out to tuck the rogue strands behind her ear.
"Then I think that could have just been the trigger I needed to kiss you." he said softly, now cupping her face. Rose leaned into his hand, smiling softly. "I have been hypnotised by you for years, Rose. I had suppressed my feelings, not allowing myself to even consider the possibility of us, all because I felt you deserved so much better; the idea of you and me just felt wrong. I couldn't even imagine that you'd have feelings for me. Because if I did, I would have jumped at the opportunity, and never let you go. As you mentioned to Erin, it definitely would have been a mutual understanding to take the plunge."
Scorpius felt Rose sigh deeply, her eyes blazing as she looked at him. He felt his heart skip as her eyes trailed down to his lips.
Did she -?
Just then there was a loud shattering noise, breaking the reverie they were in.
Scorpius glared at a booth a few feet away from them; the drunk men at the table seemed to be getting into a heated argument. He could see the staff at the restaurant quickly assembling by the table to calm the patrons.
Indignant about their moment breaking, he turned to Rose to complain about them only to be blown away by the fierce look on her face as she stared back at him.
He held his breath as she leaned forward. He tried to not be disappointed when she moved sideways towards his ear. He started when he felt her fingers brush his coat pocket. He panicked for a moment before remembering he had shifted her gift to the other side.
"I'm going to the restroom," she whispered in his ear.
He blinked. This was not what he was expecting her to say.
However, when Rose pulled back, he was thrown by the devious glint on her eyes as she got up, still holding his gaze.
He watched, open-mouthed, as she walked away from their table, her hips swaying more deliberately. And then just as she was about to disappear from his line of sight, she turned around to wink at him and shot him a wide grin, before turning into the restaurant.
He held his breath, not daring to believe what Rose's gestures had insinuated.
Did she, as in Rose Weasley, just ask him to follow her into the restroom?!
Or was he reading too much into her action?
His heart was palpating as he tried to make sense of the situation.
Her fingers had touched his pocket, right? Did she leave him something?
He dove into his pocket and felt a soft cloth. He pulled out the material carefully, only to feel his jaw drop and his heart stop.
Rose Weasley, minx extraordinaire, had dropped her lace panties in his coat pocket, lingerie bottoms which were fucking dark green and fucking silver.
BLOODY. FUCKING. HELL!
He nearly jumped off his chair, almost toppling off their table.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Dazedly, he rushed inside, his body buzzing with a desperate ache to find the bloody restroom Rose was inside. Unluckily for him, the restaurant they were at was big place and seemed to have no fucking signs. He was torn between sheer panic and desire. Every second wasted in this search was every second away from kissing Rose. His eyes scanned the periphery while he cursed fluently under his breath. He needed to find the restroom. NOW.
And that's when he saw the golden sign marking the ladies restroom.
Breathing deeply, he rushed towards the restroom, eager to finally, fin-fucking-ally, be with Rose.
Only to crash headfirst into a walking Harry Potter.
Rose leaned against the wash basin, breathing deeply.
She was trying to get her heart rate under control. She could not believe what she'd just done.
She'd actually done it. She'd actually told Scorpius she wanted to jump the gun. By dropping her panties in his pocket.
She felt a furious blush overtake her cheeks, causing her to hide her hands in her face.
The entire night had been going much better than she could have ever imagined.
She'd never felt more alive. It was perfect.
While she silently congratulated herself on not shying away from outright flirting with him everytime she did it, she had struggled so hard with holding back from constantly touching him, making herself believe that it was all real.
Everything he said or did lit up that fierce fire within her that she knew could only be quenched by them coming together.
Then, the dance had to happen. The dance that made her heart melancholic because of the overwhelming love she felt for him. The dance that had her body humming with desire so violently that she had to excuse herself to washroom to gather her wits about jumping him. And while she'd been calming her thoughts, she had no idea how and why did she think of dropping the panties act. So she'd shimmied out of her underwear, tucking it in her pocket, and had walked out to rejoin Scorpius for desserts, keeping her mind open about where the night led her.
She'd been acting wantonly the entire night.
But she loved it.
Because she loved him.
Chuckling softly, she brought down her hands, and looked patiently at the main door, waiting for Scorpius to walk in any moment. She dropped enough hints as it is and she knew he'd felt her fingers in his pockets. She had seen the cogwheels moving in his head when she'd gotten up, partially masked by the look of disbelief on his face.
Anytime soon, he'd be walking in from the door, and she'd drag him into one of the bathrooms to relive the night that started it all.
She couldn't help but giggle again.
"Hello?"
Rose started when she heard a familiar feminine voice from behind one of the bathroom doors in the restroom.
"Hello?" Rose called back, a little uncertain.
"Rosie?"
No. No. NO!
She felt as if a bucket of ice cold water had been dumped on her.
"Aunt Ginny?" she called out, horrified.
The door of the bathroom in the corner opened up, and Ginny Potter revealed herself.
"Ah there's my goddaughter!" she exclaimed, her voice a little high and face flushed pink. She walked forward to greet Rose, before she halted abruptly.
"You didn't see Harry come in, did you?" asked Ginny nonchalantly.
Rose cringed internally, not being able to believe her luck. Could she have almost run into her probably drunk godparents hooking up at the same restaurant she and Scorpius were planning to if she'd come in five minutes later? Most likely yes.
Could Ginny have probably caught her and Scorpius hooking up had she come in later? Most likely yes.
"No. I didn't see him come in," replied Rose, trying her hardest to not continue cringing.
"Ah ok! Don't tell your dad about this?" winked Ginny, "He still gets a bit green about Harry and me having sex, our thirty year marriage means nothing to that idiot."
"Yes, sure" replied Rose, shaking her head bemusedly, while trying to ignore the feeling of something shrinking inside her.
Somewhere inside her she could feel her courage deflating. Had it been one of those "spur-of-the-moment" thing? She knew she was too shy to even recommend hooking up in restaurant washrooms, no matter how wild her fantasies been. The night at Enervate could have been the exception, the drinks truly pushing her to live out her deepest desires, especially when they were right in front of her.
The main door of the restroom opened and both the women froze for a moment. Both deflated in relief when it turned out to be another guest at the restaurant, who swiftly went inside one of the spare loos, not sparing them a glance.
"Do you want to use the loo, Rose?" asked Ginny as she washed her hands at one of the basins.
"No no, I just needed to wash my hands as well. Just got done with dinner!" she replied uneasily. An odd thought suddenly struck her. "Did Albus know that you guys are here?"
"Oh no!" tittered Ginny, waving her hands, "Poor boy is too busy being a dad right now. The last thing he needs to hear is that his parents are busy going out on fun dates while he's drowning in baby cries. If you're done, we can leave."
Rose simply nodded, not knowing what else to do. She cursed her luck underneath her breath as she followed Ginny.
This was absolutely unfortunate.
She did a double take for a second as she spotted Scorpius speaking to her uncle Harry right in front of the restroom.
Scorpius's eyes found hers and they widened as he spotted Ginny Potter and her coming towards them.
Harry turned around to see his wife and niece. He blinked. "What a wonderful little reunion!" he exclaimed joyfully, coming closer to give her quick a one armed hug.
Rose could tell that her uncle and aunt were very tipsy at the moment; they were probably dining in one of the private rooms to avoid unwanted eyeballs which is probably why they missed them.
She hid a smile behind her hand as she spotted Harry giving Ginny an apologetic look, while her aunt just shrugged. She looked at Scorpius again only to find him staring back at her with hooded eyes. She lowered her eyes, feeling extremely hot around her ears. Gods, they were so close!
She was suddenly aware of the lack of her negligee, and squeezed her thighs together, gently pressing down on her skirt.
She was standing commando next to her relatives in a crowded restaurant.
She needed to get out of this awkward situation at the earliest.
"Honey, I think we should get back to dinner! There's a steak I really want to try." announced Ginny, looping her arm around her husband's waist. Rose noted that some of the people in adjacent tables were staring at them, looking at Ginny and Harry in awe. Magical folks, she surmised.
"Yes, sure. We should," replied Harry absentmindedly, then turned to Scorpius, extending his hand for a handshake. "We'll head back to our table now. You both have a good evening."
To Rose's great surprise, Ginny quickly turned to hug her and mutter a quick 'sorry'.
"For what?" asked Rose softly in surprise as Ginny pulled back from the hug.
"The men's restroom is on the other side of the room, and I am sure Scorpius had no need of the women's one unless there was someone waiting for him," whispered Ginny knowingly, smirking at her.
Rose blushed furiously, absolutely mortified with the turn of events. She felt like she was a teen getting caught with her boyfriend.
Ginny laughed at her reaction. "You're only young once, Rose! Live it up while you can."
Rose could only nod as she watched Ginny take Harry's hand and drag him away.
Scorpius turned to her with a very amused expression
"What on bleeding earth was that?!" he exclaimed, walking closer to her.
"My aunt and uncle trying to be young and reckless," said Rose, scrunching her nose, before Scorpius's expression caught her eye.
"Ah Potters. Living up to their reputation of cockblocking." he said, his tone almost sounding tragic.
And they both burst out laughing. Hard.
They laughed uncontrollably for a minute, attracting stares from nearby tables.
She held on to his arm for support, trying to suppress the tears that were forming in her eyes.
Why was this so funny?!
As the laughs slowed down, they looked at each other, the smiles still lingering on their face.
"So I guess the bathroom sex is off the table for now." said Scorpius, running a hand awkwardly through his hair.
Rose felt her heart clench. "For now." she winked, brightening up Scorpius's expression. That itself warmed her heart.
She remembered her final request of the night she had from him.
"Um, also, can I have my underwear back please?" whispered Rose, feeling obnoxiously shy at the moment. She was positive she resembled a tomato; she could feel her face emanating heat.
Scorpius's expression darkened, a mischievous smirk making its way to his face.
He leaned forward, while moving his hand discreetly to her pocket and keeping what she assumed was her underwear.
"Next time, I take this off with my teeth." he growled softly in her ear, before kissing her cheek. Rose resisted the urge to hide her face in her hands.
Shooting her a smug grin, he went back to their table, while she headed to the loo.
The entire conversation post that incident had been peppered with underwear related puns and innuendos that made Rose laugh till her stomach hurt and blush till her entire body felt to be the same colour as her hair.
As they exited the restaurant and drove back in comfortable silence, Rose reflected on the entire evening and felt the smile that had appeared on her face will not go away for a long time.
Despite the turn of events, the evening had been absolutely wonderful, just as Albus had predicted. She honestly could not have imagined anything better.
And once they're home, it would be time to tell Scorpius about the newest addition to their family.
She felt a wave of excitement and nervousness overtake her.
This was it.
As they entered their home and Scorpius headed to the floo to pick up Amelia, she collapsed on the couch, kicking off her heels and groaning at how good it felt to let go of them.
Soon, her daughter and her husband appeared in the floo. Amelia was fast asleep in Scorpius's arms. Rose felt her heart melt at the sight.
This was her family. Soon to grow larger.
"She was dead asleep when I arrived," chortled Scorpius, tossing her lightly in his arms. Rose got up and walked towards them, standing on her tiptoes to kiss her daughter goodnight.
"It's well past her bedtime," she said, running her hand lovingly over Amelia's curls.
"I'll just put her to bed," said Scorpius.
"And let's talk after that?" said Rose immediately, feeling a lump in her throat.
"Talk? Sure." smirked Scorpius, wiggling his eyebrows, causing her to roll her eyes.
As he went upstairs with Amelia, Rose headed towards the kitchen, needing a glass of water.
She was feeling lightheaded. She could feel the nervousness hitting her.
Which was silly, because she was only going to tell her husband that he was going to be a father again.
That's all.
Okay, why was she sweating all of a sudden?
What was wrong with her?
She quickly filled up a glass of water and gulped it down, breathing deeply.
"So Amy's in bed and resting."
She choked on her water, coughing slightly.
She slowly turned around to see him leaning against the kitchen island.
He'd removed his blazer and tie. He'd rolled up his shirt sleeves and had undone his waistcoat.
Rose felt her mouth dry up. People shouldn't be allowed to look this sexy.
Had he done this on purpose? He definitely did this on purpose!
However, he looked worried as he gazed at her.
"Are you alright, Rose?" he asked, "You look a bit pale."
"I'm good, I'm good," she gushed, clutching the glass of water to her chest. "It's been a long night."
Scorpius nodded. He cleared his throat. "So I hope you had fun tonight," he asked, suddenly shy.
Rose felt her heart pang at the nervousness in his voice.
"I did. Thank you so much. It was probably the best date I have ever been on." she replied softly, placing her glass on the counter.
Scorpius raised his eyebrow, "Probably?"
Now it was Rose's turn to smirk.
"Don't want you getting all cocky now, Malfoy!" she said, making him chuckle.
He walked towards her with his hands in his pockets. Rose felt her face turn hot. Did he know that she found this ridiculously attractive?
Could he read minds now? Was he a legilimens?
He stopped right opposite her, leaning against the kitchen island. His trousers were just about brushing her skirt.
"So what now?" he asked huskily, his eyes darkening. "Amy's asleep. We have this house to ourselves. You're wearing lingerie in Slytherin colours."
The way he was looking at her was making her, specifically her lady parts, very excited. She clenched her thighs and straightened her posture.
"Don't give me that look, Malfoy. Don't get any ideas," she stuttered, trying to clear her head of the erotic imagery that had suddenly weaseled into her mind. This stupid kitchen had held a lot of memories. "I told you I have a rule and I will follow it."
"The five date rule? You seemed to disregard it at the restaurant." teased Scorpius, now standing straighter up and moving closer, "Besides you said I could change your mind-"
"It was a momentary lapse!" exclaimed Rose, turning around to hide the furious blush. She knew she sounded terribly unconvincing at the moment, but she had to put up a front. She had a very important news to share, which in itself needed a lot of focus. She needed all her Gryffindor courage. "I intend to follow through with the ru-"
She stopped as she felt Scorpius right behind her; she could feel the fabric of his shirt grazing her back. The closeness of his body, the scent of his cologne, the lights, just his damn presence reminded her how much she wanted him.
She'd wanted him an hour ago at the restaurant. She'd wanted him for fifteen years.
"Tough luck, Weasley. I haven't been much of a stickler for rules. You know that." Scorpius whispered in her ear.
He was too close. She could feel his torso pressing against the exposed skin of her back. His fingers were now grazing the curve of her hips ever so gently, tantalising her in the most delightful way. Rose closed her eyes, feeling his hot breath against her neck. Her head tipped back, leaning against his chest, trying to calm her heart that just seemed to pick up pace as his fingers moved more firmly over her hips, pushing her body into his.
"Rose," she heard him groan longingly. Her toes curled as his lips lightly grazed her ear and pressed a soft kiss to the area below her ear, making her shiver. He knew it was a sensitive spot for her. His hands now slipped to her front, wrapping themselves loosely around her stomach and pressing her body into his. She sank in his embrace, her hands on moving to rest on his, interlocking their fingers.
She felt him rest his jaw on her head and breathe deeply. If she knew him as well as she thought she did, he was about to pull back from the embrace.
He wouldn't make the first move. She had to be the one to do it.
Why was she denying this, denying them for longer?
He loved her and wanted her. She loved him and wanted him. And they were moving forward.
That's all that mattered.
What she said next was barely louder than a whisper.
"Kiss me, please?"
But it was loud enough for Scorpius.
Because he did.
AN: -
And that, my dear friends, was the penultimate chapter of Malfoy's Got It Goin' On.
I know I'd said 33 chapters, but turns out the story was wrapping up neatly in 32 - so why drag the story!
Work had me crazy busy in the past one month - really struggled to find time to write :(
The next update should come in another two weeks - done with nearly 50% of it.
In the meantime, please review and share your thoughts on the chapter.
The ending may be frustrating but the next (and final) chapter may just open up with some overdue news and smut. Haha!
Cheers,
