The door lightly squeaked open as a tall, silvery haired figure emerged into the room. There was the sound of footsteps walking across a wooden floor. Moonlight was pouring into the room from the window. Suddenly, the pair of amethyst eyes found what they were looking for.

yuuki.

Zero's face softened at the sight. Her mouth was slightly parted, soft breaths coming and going. Her messy bed hair caressing her face. The moonlight hugged her as her chest rose and fell in a rhythmic pattern. She had such simple, yet intriguing features.

Zero didn't want to disturb her, but he had to.

He was terrified.

Earlier, he had a nightmare about Shizuka. He woke up shaking and full of sweat. So, he had come to the one person who could truly ease his pain.

yuuki.

Deciding he couldn't wake her, he turned on his heel ready to leave.

"Zero?" He heard a tired Yuuki say.

'crap I woke her.' "Yes?"

"What's wrong?" She asked rubbing her eyes still heavy with sleep.

"Nothing, sorry to disturb you."

"Zero, you woke me up from my precious beauty sleep. You owe me!"

Quickly he turned around and slid into bed beside her. He covered himself with her soft pink bedspread. Snuggling against her warm being.

A small smile graced her lips as she put her arm around him. Zero could be really cute sometimes.

"I had a nightmare." his voice shaking.

"About Shizuka?" She inquired running her fingers through his silky hair.

"You know me to well." he replied burying his face into the crook of her neck.

Yuuki never letting go spoke words of encouragement, and peace. Words he needed.

"Zero, you know she's dead. She's not coming back. yes it was scary what happened to your family, and being turned into a vampire. But your parents would want you to be happy. You'll always be Zero....My Zero...Vampire or human."

At this Zero pulled her closer and smiled. Teeth showing and all. It was one of those rare, precious, moments him and Yuuki shared. She treasured every smile he graciously let her see, because she felt like she was succeding at making his life easier, which was what she lived for.

Silence fell over them for a while. Just pure quiet. There was no need for words. Just being in each other's presence was good enough.

Finally he spoke up.

"Yuuki, can I stay here for the night?"

With a giggle she planted a small kiss on his cheek.

"Of course. Goodnight Zero."

"Goodnight."

And with that they drifted off to sleep.

Basking in one another's presence.

Ready to cace anything the world was ready to throw at them.

Because they both knew,

that as long as they had each other,

there was nothing they couldn't handle.
