I'm comin' home, I've done my time
Now I've got to know what is and isn't mine
If you received my letter telling you I'd soon be free
Then you'll know just what to do
If you still want me
If you still want me
"Isn't Honda getting out today?" Yugi looked up at Anzu imploringly.
"Yes, I think so, anyway," Anzu replied, smiling. "Wow, it's been a long time since we've seen him."
"How long has it been? What, like three years?"
Anzu nodded. "I think so."
Yugi thought for a moment. "Why?"
Anzu sighed. "He stole something, remember? And Jonouchi only got off with community service."
"Yeah, Jonouchi's always had a bit more luck than the average person."
Hiroto Honda boarded the bus and took a seat in the far back, the feeling in his legs dragging him along. He thought back to last week, back to that letter he'd written to her... Miho. Just her name brought back the flutter in his stomach. He smiled wistfully, remembering the cute yellow ribbon she always wore. She had so many of them- "like a hundred!" she'd told him once. Honda figured she'd still have at least one, and that would be how he would know she still cared.
Whoa, tie a yellow ribbon 'round the old oak tree
It's been three long years
Do ya still want me?
If I don't see a ribbon round the old oak tree
I'll stay on the bus
Forget about us
Put the blame on me
If I don't see a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree
He closed his eyes and hoped that his letter hadn't got lost in the mail. How would she react? Would she still be single after so long? Fat chance. Seemed like every boy Miho laid eyes on she had the hots for. Honda sighed.
"Bus driver?"
"Yeah?"
"Could I ask you for a favor?"
Bus driver, please look for me
'cause I couldn't bear to see what I might see
I'm really still in prison
And my love, she holds the key
A simple yellow ribbon's what I need to set me free
I wrote and told her please
There had been an oak tree in front of her house since before she was born. A long time ago, she'd said, she used to play under it with her cousins and the kids on her street. She'd said it was a very special tree, planted there by her great-grandparents, who had their first kiss under it, and later their wedding. "It's a very romantical tree!" The corners of Honda's mouth turned up a little. Romantical... Miho always had a penchant for doing weirdly cute things.
Whoa, tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree
It's been three long years
Do ya still want me?
If I don't see a ribbon round the old oak tree
I'll stay on the bus
Forget about us
Put the blame on me
If I don't see a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree
"And what if she doesn't tie a ribbon on the tree?" a voice in his head barked. "What will you do then?"
Honda frowned. He didn't want to think about that... because of his theft, he'd never been able to go to college or get a job. What a stupid thing to do for a senior prank. He squeezed his eyes shut and held his head in his hands.
"I'm not even going to look up," he thought. "I can't bear to look! What if there's no ribbon?"
Now the whole damned bus is cheerin'
Honda looked up slowly. Could it be? As the blue-haired beauty made her way into his line of vision, he smiled.
And I can't believe I see
A hundred yellow ribbons round the old oak tree
She was just standing there, next to the tree, in a small white dress, waiting. He leapt off of the bus as fast as he could.
"Miho!"
"Honda!"
I'm comin' home
(Tie a ribbon round the old oak tree)
