"James! Albus! We are going to be late! Just grab your trunk; mum and dad are waiting" said Lily Luna Potter, the only and youngest girl in the Potter family. She had two older brothers, Albus Severus Potter and James Sirius Potter.
It was finally September first, the first time that she would step foot as a Hogwarts student. If only her brothers would hurry up! She wanted get on the train already. Honestly, boys take too long to get ready; they should learn to pack before they go to bed. After a few more long and excruciating minutes, there was a familiar clanking duet coming down the stairs signifying the arrival of James and Albus Potter.
"Finally! Albus being late, I can understand. But James, I thought you were a prefect this year! You needs to set standards," said Lily, "I mean, why would McGonagall give you the job with all the pranks you do? She is just as crazy as what dad has told us of Dumbledore. She must see something in you that nobody else can see. And you're making us late for the train! It's my first year! I can't be late!"
James, chastised by his younger sister, was blushing redder than Uncle Ron's ears when he was embarrassed. His little sister had managed to get ready on time, but all girls were like that, weren't they? He would never understand them, but James knew enough that he needed to answer his sister as honestly as he could to avoid getting a bat-bogey hex headed in his direction. He also knew that he could help being himself, charms and all!
"I don't know, Lily," said James, "Maybe it is because I am the best person alive, or because I am so cool, or maybe even she hopes that I might tone down the pranks if I am a prefect. Dad told us that is what Dumbledore did with Uncle Moony from grandfather's generation of Marauders." With that said, the siblings ran down the stairs to find their parents waiting with impatience written across their faces. Then Ginny Potter started shouting.
"What in the name of Godric Gryffindor were you doing, James? I know I made Albus refold his clothes this morning, but what could have possibly taken you so long to get down here! You told me that you were packed last night! To my face! Did you lie to me James Sirius Potter? You know what happens boys who lie to their mothers! You have been completely inconsiderate to your dad, siblings and myself! Do you even know how long we have been waiting? I have half a mind to go and ask McGonagall to take you prefect badge away, James! Why, I remember when your Uncle Ron missed the train his second year, and my mother sent him a howler! I wonder if…"
"Ginny dear, I think he learned his lesson. And next time they will all come down earlier," said Harry Potter, speaking for the first time since his children came downstairs, "Right kids…"
"Yes, Dad," the three Potter children replied. Their father was the only person who could calm the cold fury that was Ginerva Potter, their mother. They loved their parents, but unfortunately, their father was famous. It was annoying at times, but they were happy that he was the cause the current peace. Sadly, the Wizarding World was swayed to his views on certain issues, and couldn't clearly think for themselves. He and Aunt Hermione were the brains behind the Ministry, not that they would ever admit that in public. After all, he was Harry Potter, the Boy-Who-Lived, the Chosen One, the Man-Who-Conquered, the defeater of the Dark Lord Voldemort, the Savior of the Wizarding World.
All issues aside, their trips to King's Cross Station were always annoying, chaotic and tense; the press was everywhere. This trip to King's Cross was going to be more chaotic than any other year. Well maybe one other year was more chaotic. James, however, was determined to make sure Lily would never forget these next few hours.
"So Lily, how do you feel about going to Hogwarts this year? I mean, it is your first year and all. I bet mum and dad would disown you if you got into Slytherin. Did you know that the Dark Lord was in that house? And do you know that Dad killed that evil monster. But don't worry little sister, all Potters are Gryffindors. It's a fact," James said smugly.
Lily was getting angry and red-faced throughout her brothers rant. She could barely contain herself before practically shouting, "I will tell you this, JAMES SIRIUS POTTER (all three names, he was starting to get worried) only ONCE you hear me, ONE time. I DO NOT care the house I am sorted into! And mum and dad will respect me no matter what the colors my tie ends up being. Did Dad ever tell you why HE wasn't in Slytherin? No? He told me and Albus. Dad almost ended up in Slytherin. He chose not to go to Slytherin because all his family was in Gryffindor and he wanted to continue the tradition. And the house I end up in my decision, not yours James, right, Al?"
"Yes, Lily," said Albus Potter. He was the spitting image of his father, Lily his grandmother save her eyes (she had her mother's eyes), and James like his grandfather in every detail. Right down to the rats nest hair that seamed to plague the men in the Potter family.
Sensing that another large fight between his children was about to start, which would lead to arguing from all family members for at least the next twenty minutes, Harry decided to let them in on something important, by saying loudly, "We're here! Lily, James, Albus! We need to get trollies and walk through the barrier quickly; the train leaves in fifteen minutes."
As the Potters started walking toward the barrier, things started to get blurry. Hermione walked by, breaking the time-turner that she was unaware of in her front jacket pocket. The time sand landed directly in front of the barrier as the three Potter children ran through. As they disappeared from their parents' sight, all that could be heard was, "James Potter, what did you do?"
