A Matter of Time
Cross loves Allen, and he can't deny it.
He has been alive and kicking long enough to learn that love has no boundaries, and thus he could pretty much fall for the boy. Without restraint.
He wasn't in denial, he was just ignoring the feelings. Because Allen needed guidance, not a lover.
Whenever the general felt he had been little cautious about showing his feelings towards Allen, he would stop, light a cigarette, scold himself mentally and then say something mean to the white-haired boy. He thought that Allen didn't need this kind of feelings to grow up properly, but he was sure that they would come in handy when the boy became an adult.
Those were usually disturbing thoughs for Cross, because Allen never seemed to grow up fast enough.
To ease his need of Allen, he would go out with a lot of women. They usually kept his mind and body busy. Even though he kept telling himself that that body of his was yet to be Allen's, that wait only made him insatiable.
Sometimes he would drink until he seemed drunk enough, so that Allen would put up with anything and everything he said. The general would occasionally say that he loved Allen and the boy wouldn't have a clue that he actually meant that. And by morning, these memories would fade from the boy's mind. But the images of Allen's blush would be forever stored within a golden golem and a truly sobber heart.
Cross would spend all his money and would make his apprentice leave him to get more. He meant not only to teach Allen how hard life could be, but also to be left alone. So that he could look into all the daily memories of the unsuspecting boy that Timcampy had collected for him.
Good Tim looked overweighed because Cross refused to let go of Allen's images, but when he decided to send the boy to the Order, he chose to remove some weight from Timcanpy's memory.
He would hate it if Tim stopped registering Allen's every movements due to lack of memory, especially when Cross wouldn't be there to watch him. But that doesn't mean that the general didn't burn all the data into a CD.
Rather than seeing Allen off, he chose to leave first. Because it would be so painful to see the boy leave his side. Then, just like a cave-man, he made the bethrothal clear and left.
So that when they met they could go to honeymoon.
