Chapter One

The Phone Call

Nessie

I got up that morning and poured myself some flavourless cereal trying not to grimace and failing horribly. It tasted so absolutely awful that I had to swallow it down quickly in order not to think of the blood that I would soon have, I don't know why Jacob gives me his blood it remains a mystery but I am glad that he does. Ah Jake I really don't know what to think of him. On the one hand there is this guy that's been in my life forever practically a brother to me, so much so that my father calls him his son. On the other hand our relationship has changed slightly as I have gotten older but I find myself longing for more. That however will never happen with Jake, I know it won't just as I know so many things without having to have them explained to me.

I smiled chugging the pint of blood and wiping and licking the back of my hand after I was done, none of the rest of my family were up yet, most probably engaged in whatever things they did at night still. I wasn't naive I knew full well that all my family were in relationships with each other although I really didn't want to think about that.

I heard the phone ringing and answered it. "Hello Cullen residence, Renesme speaking."

"Hello, could I speak with Carlisle?" The voice on the other end of the phone sounded slightly frantic. "Its really important."

"I'll try to get him, see if he is in his study." I replied and there was a cry on the other end of the line. I knew better then to ask questions and hurdled upstairs knocking on Carlisle's study door.

"Come in." He said and I smiled relieved.

"Someone wants to talk with you." I said and handed him the phone.

"Slow down Nahuel, what's happening." Carlisle asked and I remembered Nahuel, he was one of the ones who had saved me and my family. "Alright just stay calm, your sister if she is anything like you is strong, I am sure that the baby will be born with no complications." I blushed that was the cry in the background. "I am not sure about half vampires giving birth, or if she would be in danger or not, I suppose it depends on if the baby is a boy or a girl." Carlisle smiled about forty minutes later and some medical speech Carlisle finally spoke words that I had been waiting to hear. "Good now you see everything worked out." He said smiling. "Of course, you and your sister can both come over with the newborn, I am sure that Rosalie would be delighted."

I smiled, my species was small but it had a new member. "Welcome to the club." I murmured. Carlisle laughed in reply.

"Nessie says to tell your nephew welcome to the club. I would like to study the infants if you don't mind. Well not so much that as see what the differences are so we know what to expect, someday." I blushed at that he wouldn't need to know the differences if I wasn't a half vampire. "Good you'll be on the next flight, see you this evening." Carlisle said and turned off the phone.

"I think I'll go over to Jake's." I said and Carlisle nodded, I wanted to hang out with Jake and his pack, they were totally awesome and joked with me as though I was their little sister. They also needed to be informed that three half vamps were coming to stay with us. I put on some fresh clothing brushed my waist length hair and walked out the door. I smiled as I had gotten older it became more wavy then curly and I liked the way it swung against my back when I walked. I got into my car and drove to Jake's. I knew better then to call ahead in case they had been on patrol last night but when I approached the house I could hear voices.

"Jake when are you going to tell Nessie? She needs to know, I was a girl once."

"No, I'm afraid how she would react." Jacob replied and he sounded sad and tense at the same time.

"Tell her, she will understand I think, I mean to say first you were her brother then her friend and now this." Leah was angry I could tell and I didn't have a clue what was going on.

"You don't have a clue Leah what I am going through." Jake said.

"I know but I wish I did." Leah replied and I wondered, was Jake gay that was the only explanation for this conversation. I had been crushing on a gay man that showed how bright I was. Jake had no sense of style and most probably would go about in torn cut off sweats and jeans if nicer clothes danced in front of him doing the chacha I knocked on the door as Leah burst out heading for the trees.

"Hi Jake." I said and he smiled.

"Hi Nessie." He replied grinning, I realized that somehow the rest of the pack was asleep I suppose I had my ability to tune into certain things to thank for that. I was surprised I didn't miss the snoring earlier, none of the pack were what you would call light sleepers.

"Slumber party?" I asked raising an eyebrow at Embry's cow boy pajama bottoms. Jacob laughed and took me over to the couch steering me through the bodies strewn haphazardly across the floor.

"Not quite, patrol last night, everyone needed to stay over here they all knew that we would be out late so they brought their pajama's or at least Embry did to get a shock factor."

I laughed Embry was such a clown sometimes. "So in other words a werewolf version of a slumber party, I think I prefer the human version from what I've seen on TV. Goodness knows they didn't snore this loudly."

"That's mostly Quil." Jacob said and I smiled raising an eyebrow.

"Right." I replied. "Its a wonder they could stay asleep while you were." Jacob had fallen asleep at my house occasionally when we were watching TV. One memorable time he had fallen on top of me snoring like the chainsaw he was when he was asleep. His warmth didn't bother me I had high tolerance to both extremely hot and extremely cold weather. However his snoring and drooling did so I lightly pushed him back and he slept on oblivous, he must have been really tired that day, because at other times I had tried to get his hand off of me as it had fallen while he had slept and succeeded in only waking him.

He growled in reply childishly I might add. "Save me from the puppy." I cried theatrically and we both laughed. "By the way Jake, we are going to have company for a few days, some half vamps are coming over as Nahuel's sister just had a baby and Carlisle wants to see it and compare to what I looked like then. As far as we know there haven't been any other half vamp births and Carlisle wants to see if its possible in case I might want to have children someday." I blushed scarlet at that one, but Jake just nodded his cheeks were also tinged.

"I'll tell Sam, I think he will understand." Jacob replied and smiled. "After all they had their first not long ago, a little girl they named him Sammeth." He said and I smiled.

"Thats a good name." I said and he nodded. "Do you think they will ever let me visit them?" I asked I loved children and babies and looked forward to having my own for whatever short of time they remained children.

"So, what are you thinking of doing today?" He asked me and I smiled.

"Hanging out with my best friend, that's a no brainier." I replied and he looked puzzled.

"Claire?" He asked and I laughed.

"No silly she is my best girlfriend, your my best friend." He smiled then I loved his smile if you could bottle it, it would light the lamps if not the sun. Jacob was always sunny always joking around, I had never seen him sad.

"Then Tomb Raider it is." Jake said and I nodded, we were both hooked on the tomb raider games and a new one just came out. We were in this passage battling monsters when suddenly Jake started yelling. "Duck Laura Duck." Even though he had the controller at the time and we had to go back to where we last saved the game. I laughed so hard that tears came to my eyes.

"Duck Laura?" I asked raising an eyebrow.

"Well yes, I'm not very good as these things." Jake replied and I smiled as Embry gave a gigantic snort and turned over into the carpet that was incrusted with unknown items that might have been food once.

"Looks like Embry wants a snack." I commented and Jake laughed.

"I'll ask Leah to vacuum once everyone wakes up, I don't think they would much like me if I started to vacuum in here while they were asleep and I can't much vacuum over my pack as they take up most of the living room." He said and I laughed as he gave me the consol. I started to play liking the lame music as it was all part of the experience. I got by where Jacob was and smiled.

"Take that Jake!" I cried and when he didn't answer I looked at him, his chin was touching his chest and he was snoring. I smiled, Jacob always looked so much younger then he was when he was asleep. I wanted to stroke his shoulder length hair but I didn't. I moved closer and let his head rest against my shoulder as he slept while I continued to play. Leah came back and smiled at us that annoying smile she sometimes shows when she sees the two of us together. "How was your walkies?" I asked her and she laughed.

"It was good Ness, I love the smell of fresh air." She replied and I smiled. "Preferable to that of flatulence from my male counterparts, sometimes I wish I wasn't the only girl to become a wolf." She admitted.

"I sometimes wish that there were more of my kind out there, but as it is some are visiting." I replied and she looked up at me.

"Really?"

"Yeah they are coming tonight, Nahuel, his sister and her son." I replied smiling.

"I was just visiting Emily and the baby." Leah said smiling. "She is beautiful and Collin imprinted on her."

"No, little Collin all grown up then?" I asked and she laughed.

"Not quite, he still sticks gummy worms up his nose." Leah replied. "But Sammeth seems to like it well enough. Sammeth should be more of a boys name and everyone will most probably wind up calling her Sammy or some such."

"Maybe Vivian?" I asked and Leah did a double take.

"Why Vivian?"

"It comes from a book called Blood and Chocolate and its about a girl named Vivian who lives with a family of werewolves." I replied and then half seriously. "Or there is always Yetina."

Leah laughed. "No I think you will be the only one named after a mythical monster." I pouted in fake distress and she laughed. "I think they liked the name Sammeth too much to give it up when they found out their child was a girl." I laughed as Jake started to snore getting deeper into slumber. His mouth was open and he was drooling a little on my shoulder but I didn't mind what were friends for after all?

"Want to take a turn at the game?" I asked her and she almost threw the controller across the room when she died a second after she got the controller. She picked up the controller sheepishly luckily we had gone for the durable wireless ones and handed it back to me. I laughed and Jacob's head slipped down to my lap. Leah saw what had happened and also laughed. He looked pretty uncomfortable turned to the side like that. "Leah will you lift Jake's feet onto the couch he's bent like a slinky and I don't want to wake him up."

"Sure." Leah replied I really didn't get what people said about Leah being slightly bitchy she was always so kind to me somehow. She lifted Jake's feet up and he mumbled something about lasagna, we both laughed at that one. Leah sat down on my other side, Jake's feet hung about two feet off of the end of the couch. Leah yawned and I realized that she must be just as tired as the rest of the pack. She put her feet up on the recliner and watched me play as her head slowly sank to her chest. I smiled and put an arm around her. Leah was my friend and I think I was about the only one she had. She muttered in her sleep but her head touched my shoulder and she quieted. Leah didn't like anyone to touch her normally it was something that I thought strange but it was true.

I smiled continuing to play until my cell phone rang about five in the afternoon. "Hi Nessie, they will be here in an hour, so I thought you might want to make whatever your making for the pack and get over here." My Mom said and I smiled, remembering when the pack was in need of a cook and my Dad had taught me how, by sitting me in front of the food network and cooking tons of stuff. Sometimes my mom would join in but more often it would be just me and him. I had inherited my mom's taste in literature and when it rained which was often we would sit together on the couch and read. Carlisle had even installed a fire place to make it seem even more homey if possible.

"Will do Mom." I replied and hung up. I gently pushed Leah off me and moved Jacob's head off my lap onto the couch. Nether one of them stirred. I smiled as I made macaroni and cheese with a bunch of vegitables and some hamburger meat I found in the fridge, I was careful to cook the hamburger meat last as the pack would no doubt wake up once they smelled food.

Sure enough I was besieged by wolves pretending to be starving and I laughed at their antics. "It will be ready in a minute guys, then I just have enough time to eat fast with you before going back to my house." They nodded and attacked the food. I was just able to wrestle a portion away and eat it at the table, noodles were flying everywhere as they gathered around the pot. I laughed watching them as I ate my own dinner. They turned towards me all had cheese on their faces it was so adorable and I laughed again. I loved the pack and how we could all act like children together. They returned to eating as I did so, chuckling quietly, table manners were non existent.

I finished and stretched, the pack seemed willing enough to pause in their feed to say goodbye. "Come back soon alright Ness? Where would we be without your cooking." Embry said and I smacked him lightly on the head, he rubbed the offending target.

"Your supposed to say you like my company Numnum." I said smiling at the packs way of saying numskull.

"That too." He added hastily and I laughed.

"See you around." I said before going back to my car and driving to my house. I arrived at the same time as they did and smiled at Nahuel who I remembered from the gathering as if it were yesterday. "Hi Nahuel."

"Hi Nessie, you've grown." He said and I laughed before his sister came carrying what appeared to be a newborn baby.

"He's adorable." I told her and she smiled at me.

"Thanks, would you like to hold him? We don't know what his talent is yet."

"Who is the Daddy?" I asked and her eyes became sad.

"The make them and leave them type, when they say that girls pick their fathers I never thought it would be right." She said sadly and rubbed her stomach. "Pregnancy is short though mine lasted about nine days." She said and I stared at her.

"Nine days?" I asked and she nodded smiling. "Did it hurt?"

"Surprisingly no, Nahuel made sure we both got plenty of blood and really the only thing that hurt was the delivery." I smiled at that and was happy to accept the baby from her. His eyes were open and wide and he stared at me smiling.

"Hello little guy." I said and gave him my finger. He smiled and grasped onto it got it into his mouth and bit, it didn't bother me at all, apart from a slight stinging.

"He doesn't have any venom, we already checked, his eyes are his father's bright blue." She said sadly and I clapped her on the back with the arm that didn't hold the baby.

"Really I thought males did." I replied and she shook her head and I smiled. We walked inside together and my whole family was waiting there.

"You can stay here as long as you want, we have an extra bedroom in the cottage and a crib from when Nessie was little." Carlisle said and looked at the child. "He looks like a newborn."

"Yes he does doesn't he? It surprised both of us when he came out so small." Nahuel replied and smiled down at the infant that I was holding. the little guy yawned and continued to suck on my finger. His eyes were drooping closed and I rocked him gently in my arms, soon he was fast asleep.

"I'm pretty tired myself would you mind if I go lie down?" Nahuel's sister asked. "My name is Abigale by the way." She said and Carlisle nodded.

"Head for the cottage the room with the crib in it is yours. Its become more of a storage room for us then anything else but there are two cots set up in case Nessie wants to have a sleep over with her friend Claire." He said and Abigale nodded heading into the cottage she seemed nice. "Sit down Nahuel, would you like something to eat or drink? We have animal blood stalked for Nessie."

"No thanks, I'm fine." He replied smiling cushioning his head on his arms he smiled. "He's beautiful isn't he? My nephew?"

"Yes he is." Carlisle replied and Nahuel smiled his eyes drifting closed. He started to snore softly and if I was any clue my kind were sound sleepers. Carlisle smiled and picked him up like a child.

"I'll take the crib tonight." I said and he nodded.

"I think our guests are worn out its very kind of you to watch the child Nessie." He said and I smiled.

"Did Nahuel say what his name was? On the phone I mean?" I asked and Carlisle shook his head Nahuel cradled in his arms.

"No. We will have to ask in the morning." I nodded, I was also tired and smiling I walked with my Grandpa to the cottage although I always called him Carlisle as everyone else did, he wasn't old enough to be a grandfather, the weirdest change I had to make was calling my Mom Bella and my Dad Edward when we were in public. I smiled as Carlisle laid him down on the cot.

"Men." I said shaking my head as Nahuel slept.

"What exactly is that supposed to mean?" Carlisle said raising one eyebrow like Daddy.

"Just that you never show weakness if you can help it." I replied as he took the cradle into his arms and put it into my room. I gently set the baby down in it and kissed Carlisle on the cheek. "I should go say goodnight to everyone." I said and he nodded and we went back to the house together. Rosalie gave me a hug as always but lately she had looked sad when she saw me. I knew I had grown up fast and that Rosalie wanted children but couldn't have them, that was why I decided that if I was going to have a girl someday she would carry Rosalie's name on, if not her genes or blood.

"You've grown up so fast." She said and I smiled.

"Love you Rosie, goodnight." I said and smiled as she flung me into the air to pass me to Emmett, it was the nightly game that we had played since I was a toddler. I laughed as Emmett grabbed me.

"Goodnight little sister." He said and I gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"Night Em." I replied and smiled he had always called me little sister, perhaps because with my curls we looked quite a bit alike. He passed me to Alice and Jasper who both embraced me at the same time. I smiled up at both of them. Then I walked over to my parents and hugged them both, Edward was shaking and I realized that he was crying.

'Its alright Daddy, I'll always be your little girl.'I thought to him and he smiled at me I sent love telling how much I loved everyone. My Mom smiled down at me and I smiled in reply.

"Your almost eighteen, which means physically speaking your almost older then all of us." She said and I laughed that was true, I was older then Emmett, Rosalie and Alice not to mention Daddy now.

"I might be almost grown now but I'll always be your little Nessie if you want me to be." I told all of them and I saw Rosalie start to sob. I remembered how she had saved me and protected me, I thought of Rosalie as my mother as much as Bella. I went over to her and put my hand on her forehead. She hugged me tightly for a moment before letting me go, I walked back to the cottage and my own room, my own bed I felt my thoughts drift into darkness as sleep overcame me.

AN: Please review I won't be offended if you don't like it, I want feedback, I try to update as much as possible regardless, but reveiws really keep me interested in the story. I'm having a lot of fun writing this and so most probably will see it through till the end, but I've thought that about my stories before and life got in the way. I also have a bunch of ideas crop up suddenly and then I am on a tangent anyway this is one strange authors note.
