Chapter One: Saying Goodbye.

It was one of the colder days in late October. A woman with dark red hair with sad almond-shaped emerald green eyes, which shone with glittering unshed tears, watched over her young child. She was young, but her eyes showed wisdom and pain that were beyond her age. They were filled with such sorrow that one would have thought that someone close to her had died.

She stood with her back facing the only window in the room. The full moon shone through the window behind her, throwing her face into shadow. She reached down and gently tucked her little boy into his crib as she sang a soft song to help him get back to sleep. He hadn't been sleeping well lately. It would seem he could almost sense the destruction that was about to take place in his home.

After singing the final note of the song she let a single tear slide down her face where it landed on her fist which rested on the rail that separated her from her son. Glancing around the room once, she leaned down and kissed her son's head gently before turning and hurrying down the stairs to where her husband sat in the living room looking thoroughly depressed.

The young woman stopped in the doorway and watched as her husband shed tears of sorrow before hurrying forward to comfort him. She wrapped her arms tightly around him and finally let the rest of her tears go. Soon both clung to each other and sobbed. Somehow they knew they didn't have much longer to live. It pained them to know that they might not get to watch their son grow up, get married and have children of his own.

- One would have thought someone had died. - A calm voice filled there heads.

"Toria... What are you doing here?" Lily asked.

- The time is almost upon you. I have come to try to change your minds. This... Dumbledore is not what he appears. I have been watching him this last month and something doesn't add up. His phoenix is not truly his and I worry that he has ill intention for you and your lovely family, Lily. - Toria looked agitated as she flew around the room and then landed on a perch on the fireplace.

"You are the best friend I have ever had Toria. I value your advice above all others but if we turn against Dumbledore now... He has too much influence. He could take our Harry away while saying that we joined the dark side. He would do it just so he can win his war. He would take all the glory and leave our son to die." Lily sobbed.

- And if he gets you killed? What will happen to your son then? I can only do so much Lily. I am after all only a phoenix. - Toria trilled a sorrow filled song.

"And if he throws us in jail what would it matter? There is no way around this, Toria. Both paths lead to destruction and our son being taken from us. What are we to do? Run? A Potter never runs from a fight. James taught me that," Lily replied.

James sat there staring off into space. He didn't know what to do either. He didn't want to run but then again he didn't want to leave his son behind either. What to do? Their time was running out.

- Go into hiding. Wait until Harry is old enough and then come back out into the world. If not then at least one of you has to survive. We can't let Dumbledore win. - Toria trilled angrily.

"And yet we can't put our baby in danger by having Dumbledore hunt us down or by sending Voldemort to do his dirty work," Lily nearly shouted hysterically.

- He will always be in danger. Ever since Dumbledore made that false prophecy there will always be danger for young Harry. - Toria mourned.

"So it's true then. You know without a doubt?" James spoke up for the first time.

- I do. - Toria whispered.

Lily fell to the ground in despair. Then she ran up the stairs to her child's room and picked him up to cuddle. What no one knew was that Harry had been awake and Toria had been broadcasting to him to. Despite what most people thought Harry James Potter was an intelligent child. Even as a fifteen month old child he knew something was wrong and that he should try to remember this.

"My poor sweet baby. I just know something bad is going to happen tonight darling. There is something I want you to remember dearest. I love you with all my heart and so does your father. NEVER trust Dumbledore, my sweet angel. He does not have your best interests at heart," Lily whispered into her darling son's ear.

James came into the room and kissed them both on the head. Harry looked up at his sad parents faces as though trying to memorize them. They sat together and cuddled for the next hour before an explosion was heard. The day they had been dreading had finally come. Voldemort was here to kill Harry and both knew deep in their hearts that they would all be separated.

James kissed both of the again before walking out of the room. Lily stared at the place her husband had been and cried. Before long a green light lit up the house and Lily fell to her knees in despair. Clutching the crying toddler she reached for the portkey that would save there lives. However, she had taken too long and suddenly Voldemort had blown the door down and was standing wand raised at the sobbing woman.

"Give me the child and I'll spare your life," he whispered menacingly.

"Please not Harry! Please not Harry! Take me instead!" She cried out.

"I promised I would consider sparing your life. Don't try my patience woman. Give me the child!" Voldemort thundered.

"Please not Harry!" Lily tried once again to save her son.

"Very well. My follower will just have to live with an insane woman as his pet." Voldemort sneered.

It all happened in slow motion. Lily was hit was a red light that caused her to drop Harry and fall down as well. She screamed and screamed, her tears and voice echoing in the mind of the child. Forever burned into his memory. He watched the intelligence leave her eyes. He watched as the tears streamed down her face. He watched as she screamed herself hoarse. He watched with horrified eyes.

"I shall leave you will a little sanity. Just enough to watch your son die. If that doesn't send you over the edge then I will." He laughed a very evil laugh before turning the wand on the young child.

Harry watched with fearful confused eyes as a green light was sudden racing toward him. With a loud trill Toria was suddenly there. Not in front of the green light but close enough to absorb some of it. Then it hit Harry and bounced back to its sender. With the combined efforts of child and phoenix, Voldemort was reduced to a spirit. Toria had absorbed just enough of it to keep Harry from dying. However there were consequences for her actions. She fled the room to recuperate in the forest near Hogwarts. There she would stay for the next few years, trying to regain her strength.

Harry crawled over to his now insane mother and cried over her. His head bled from where a now lightning bolt shaped cut on his forehead. There he curled up in his mothers arms. It would be the last time he would get the chance to. Sadly, Dumbledore had won this round. However there were quite a few people who are determined that he loses the next one. Only time will tell...

Karone: Well I finally finished this chapter. I've been working on it for almost a year. This is the revised version of a story I already have up. I plan to keep the other one up and to continue it soon. I plan on working both and while the beginning will be similar they will begin to differ later. However I do plan on revising the other story just so it makes sense and what not. It was suggested that I don't touch the other story and that I should continue it. I hope that you will read both of them and that you enjoy my craziness.

However I should warn you now. I don't update as much as I would like. I work and have other commitments that come first. Like family and what not. Well I think that covers everything for now. Oh and I will keep both up. Please be sure to leave a review so I know what you all think.

Also I would like to say a special thanks to my beta Kage Mistress of Shadows. Without her I would be lost at the moment lol. She kindly decided to become my beta and so I think my story is better because of it.

Enjoy the story! Ciao for now.
