He smashed his fist against the wall.

How could she be so stupid?

Damn it, he loved her.

Why couldn't she just realize that?

She was his leader, his fearless, brave, courageous leader.

She was Max.

But she was also their mother, their caring, kind, sensitive mother.

The other kids might think of her that way.

As their mother.

But she would never be his mother.

Because she was the one he loved.

Loved so fiercely it was ridiculous.

He would follow her to the ends of the earth.

He would jump in front of a train to save her.

Anything and everything he would do for her.

Why couldn't she see that?

Why couldn't she realize that he loved her more than anything else?

More than anyone else?

He sighed.

She couldn't realize that because she was Max.

A small, unwilling smile started to tug at the corner of his mouth.

And that was why he loved her.

Because she was Max.

It was just sort of a package deal, wasn't it?

A grin slowly started on his face.

Oh well.

Sooner or later she would figure it out.

And he couldn't wait to see the look on her face when she did.
