77. ... was one of those people whose fate it is to be devoted to others and to have no one devoted to them. - Death Comes As the End by Agatha Christie.

Primus regarded the newest spark to float before him. It pulsed gently, and Primus spoke, "What sort of future do you want?"

"I want a future where I can love." The spark replied, it was remarkably calm, despite the fact that Primus was about to send it to Cybertron to become part of the many mechs that gathered there.

Primus sighed, he could see the future for this little spark, and it was completely different then what the tiny spark was hoping for. "Little one, my child, I'm afraid that isn't your destiny."

The sparks pulsing flared a little, shrinking down on itself. Primus said softly, "You are not fated to be well loved or liked."

"Oh. Will I be evil?"

"No, you will not be evil." Primus reassured the tiny spark. "Instead, you will be devoted to others, even though no one loves you back."

"I'll be able to have some friends, right?" Terror and loneliness had already beset the spark, and Primus regarded the tiny spark.

"Yes, you will have a few good friends, but- they will never love you enough to bring more sparks into the world."

The small spark quailed for a moment, then asked, "What will I do?"

"You will watch over others, making sure that they are safe through the next part of their lives. The most dangerous parts of their lives. They will take your watching with great complaint, but without you, they may not survive."

The small spark pulsed thoughtfully, and Primus asked softly, "Will you go?"

"Can I have a little time to think about it?"

"Think quickly, for you are to be given birth, and thus set the chains of your existence in place."

"If I refuse, what will happen?"

"Many will die before their time." Primus said. He saw no reason to lie to the small spark, and the spark pulled inside of itself, struggling to make the decision.

"Will, will I be useful?"

"Very."

"Will it be painful?"

"At times. But so it is with everyone. Everyone has some sort of pain in their lives. For without pain, there can be no joy. Without sorrow there can be no happiness. "

The spark kept quiet, pulsing gently until at last he questioned, "I'll have a few people to help, right? I won't be completely alone?"

"No, you will find allies in the beginning, but they will slowly disappear as you start taking your own footsteps, and begin carving your name into the world."

'Will I die alone?"

"…I do not know. That depends on you."

"Will I be remembered after I die?"

"No."

The spark winced, and Primus asked gently, "So? Will you go down? Or will you stay here?"

The spark pulsed for a few moments, and then it finally said, "I'll go down."

"Good."

As the spark floated to where Primus sat, patiently waiting, it hesitated. "Will the mech whom I devote my life too, the one whom I will serve with all my spark understand me?"

"No one shall be able to understand you." Primus said softly, "Just like you will not be able to understand everyone else. Life is a long race little one, and in the end, you end it with only yourself."

The room seemed to warp for a few moments, and then a giant, pulsing spark appeared. The spark looked around itself, and then at the giant spark that pulsed before it. "Go, attach yourself to the spark and feed." Primus said softly, looking at the sparkling. "And always remember, I will always be with you little one."

The small spark attached itself to the mother spark, as Primus turned its attention to the next spark.

Bunny prompt, and I just came up with Primus interviewing each spark before it came to Cybertron, telling each one what awaited it, and giving the sparkling a choice. Well, as you can see, some of them had some really hard choices.
