John looked in the backseat to see his oldest Dean looking out the window, almost angrily. Being ten years old and seeing a baby was not the thrill of his lifetime. Sam however looked excited.
"I've never been one of the oldest kids!" He said once he had heard that Miss. Ellen had had her baby.
They pulled into the roadhouse, and John looked around. "Hang on boys." He snapped impatiently and noticed that Dean's face suddenly was hard and lacking emotion.
"Clear." John said a moment later and got out of the car, the boys closely behind him. He opened the bar door and found the lights dim and greeted with the sound of a baby.
"John?" A young, yet flustered woman called from the bar. "Oh thank God!" She exclaimed. "She won't stop crying, what should I do?" A man came down the stairs. "Bottle? Diaper? Rocking?" He asked trickling things off his finger. Sam stuck his fingers in his ears.
"Did I cry like that?" He asked wide-eyed at Dean.
Dean just nodded. "Yeah, actually you did we had to sing to you." He said after a moment.
John settled the boys at one of the tables with a few coloring books and crayons-why they were given a normal activity he did know. After about an hour of hearing Baby Jo cry Dean threw a crayon down.
"Can I try?"
At this point Ellen practically threw the baby at him. She had tried rocking her, Mr. Will had changed her bottle, his dad had feed her a bottle. Dean took the tiny baby in his arms and began rocking her.
I can't fight this feeling any longer
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow
What started out as friendship, has grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let it show
Jo calmed down instantly and Dean smiled as her eyes closed and she feel asleep in his arms. Ellen watched Dean for a moment, while the men looked relieved that the crying had stopped. Ellen knew though, that even though Dean could stop her tears now…he would cause them later. Ellen shook her head and poured herself some whiskey. She laughed to herself.
Like a kid ten years older then her daughter would be a love interest….
