Chapter One: Crazy Love

It was late in the afternoon; the sun was about to set. It was peaceful at the meaningful Sakura tree, which shaded a certain couple: a female brunette and a raven-haired male. They were sitting on opposite sides of the tree, not even aware of each other's presence.

Mikan leaned against the trunk and looked off into the sunset with a sigh.

I hate the way you talk

Natsume heard a familiar voice singing. Trying to figure out who it was, he decided to continue listening.

I hate the way you look at me

Mikan remembered how Natsume would always look so gently at her whenever she was feeling a certain way, and her eyes stung.

And I hate the way you smile

God, how it hurt her to remember how he'd smile at her. So rare as it was, she treasured each time.

Hate those big brown eyes

Why did it hurt her? The answer is simple.

'Cause we can never be more than friends

He belonged to someone else...

A tear fell from her now closed eyes. "Natsume," she uttered silently.

Natsume slowly inched closer towards the voice, trying to produce as least noise as possible. He had a gut feeling as to who the singer was.

Mikan wiped away her tears. She should stop feeling so bad for herself. It's just so selfish of her, wanting Natsume like that.

I mean, she is happy for the two of them. They are her friends, after all. It's just that she can't help feeling hurt every time she's reminded that she and Natsume can never be...

"Mikan?" Natsume voiced out loud, wondering why his best friend was in tears. Mikan turned to look at him, her eyes widening. "Natsume..." Then, with utmost sincerity, she sang the last line of the song:
