This is set after the movie when Po and Master Shifu are eating their lunch. If you watch through the credits you see them eating a bowl of Pao (see the fact snippet to know what Pao is). But anyways, here's my adaptation of that little adorable scene.
Fact: On more than one occasion the characters refer to the white stuff Po is eating as "dumplings" but they are actually called "Pao", a form of Chinese white bread. Dumplings are meat or seafood wrapped in a thin rice wrapping. If dumplings were used in their fight scene it would break apart very easily. It also wouldn't be skewered like it did on the tree without breaking apart.
Most of the time I will be referring to the dumplings as Pao, just so you know.
Disclaimer: I do not own Kung Fu Panda. I just know where I can watch it again online. …Don't tell Monkey!
After the climatic and literal thunderstorm of the final battle, Po was starving. Even Master Shifu's little stomach growled as he lay peacefully on the floor of the Sacred Hall of Warriors.
"Wanna get somethin' to eat?" Po couldn't help but say after 10 seconds of silence.
Shifu sighed and turned towards his student, opening his eyes. "Yeah," he said as he nodded his head, actually agreeing with Po this time.
They stood up and walked to the clean kitchen, which Po ended up cleaning after his fiasco with the almond cookies. Shifu warmed two bowls of Pao, adding a larger amount into Po's bowl after all his hard work. Po slumped into the dining chair as he waited, exhausted. But Po was surprised to find his master carrying the bowls out the kitchen door.
Po groaned and stood up once more, following his teacher. "More training? Are you kidding me, Shifu? I just defeated Tai L--"
"I never said anything about training," Shifu said calmly as he opened the back door and headed towards the Peach Tree of Wisdom.
"Ohh…" Po stopped and looked up at the peach tree, understanding.
He walked up the old stairway to the top of the cliff, finding his master sitting in a relaxed position and facing the valley. One of the bowls of Pao was sitting, awaiting Po's presence just as the master was. Po sat as quietly as he could next to Shifu, clutching the bowl and picking up his chopsticks.
Po looked over at Shifu, watching him eat a piece of Pao silently, and then taking a bite himself. "Thank you, Master," Po said to break the silence as he ate another piece.
"It's a quick meal to heat up, nothing special." Shifu said and smiled, in full knowledge of what Po really meant behind it. "After all, it is me who should be the one thanking you." Shifu paused and added a little comment. "Even though I said thank you to you four times back in the hall."
Po laughed at his teacher's humor, enjoying the last bite of Pao as he did. Po took this rare moment of kindness from Master Shifu and savored it. All of the pain and insults were gone. As the breeze blew in from the north, Po remembered Oogway's words: "Yesterday is history, tomorrow's a mystery. But today is a gift. That is why they call it present."
As Po smiled into the sky, he suddenly felt more weight into his empty bowl. He glanced down to see Shifu pouring half of his leftovers into Po's bowl. They shared a smile and warm dumplings under the newly budding peach tree, the small peach seed planted by Shifu nights before becoming a small plant swaying in the back.
Well there you go. A short, cute moment between teacher and pupil. Hope you enjoyed it. Reviews are much appreciated. Made while I was listening to the Kung Fu Panda soundtrack on iTunes and I was in the mood to write. Maybe more KFP stories to come, but tomorrow is a mystery, so I can't tell you for sure. ;)
