Sweetheart

"Let's go, sweethear'!" Allan exclaimed cheerfully. "Mornin' deliveries. Fun, eh?"

She let out a moan and Allan reached over and ruffled her hair. "Come on." He passed her a bag and set off, whistling to a tune. Djaq rolled her eyes and set off to walk beside him.

"I cannot see why you are in such a good mood when it is so early." She commented grumpily. "I feel so tired!"

"Bless." Allan raised his hand to move the branch out of their way. "I love seein' you grumpy, sweethear'."

"Don't keep calling me that." Djaq hit him lightly on the arm. "I am not your sweetheart."

"Yes you are." Allan chuckled. "It's a rainy day when you're not around."

Djaq turned to Allan and actually smiled slightly. "You made that up?"

"yep. Genius, I am." He laughed. "Me mother used ta tell me some nice ones, though. Want to hear them, sweethear'?"

Djaq rolled her eyes, but nodded. "I suppose it will keep me entertained for our tedious walk."

Allan beamed and he looked like he was concentrating for one. Finally, he smiled at her again and opened his mouth. "If I could reach up and hold a star for every time you made me smile, the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand."

Djaq was beginning to ware off from her grumpy mood. "You are a flirt."

"True." Allan shrugged and draped an arm around her. "I'm just softenin' you up so that if all else fails, I'll still have you."

She shrugged him off. "I don't want to be your substitute!' She snapped and rolled her eyes.

"Gawd, you really ARE in a bad mood in the mornings." Allan agreed cheerfully. "I guess I'll give you another one."

"ahh." Djaq threw her hands up in the air. "Give it a rest!"

Allan caught her hands and smiled at her. "I have a poem." He offered.

"oh?"

He cleared is throat and smiled at her again, and started the poem.

'You're my friend and that is true,

But the gift was given from me to you.

We went through moments that were good and bad,

Even through moments that were happy and sad.

You supported me when I was I tears,

We stuck together when we were in fear,

It's really sad that it had to be this way,

But it has reached its very last day.

Miles away can't keep us apart,

'cause you'll always be in my heart.'

Djaq's eyes widened. "What do you mean?" She whispered. "you're not going anywhere."

Allan opened his mouth, but he closed it again. and smiled slowly at her. "No." He coughed. "I just wanted to say it. We should go, eh?"

Djaq watched as he set off, a disturbing thought in her mind. She looked back at her hands from when Allan had gripped them, and looked back at him.

He was found out the next day.
