Chapter 82: Powerless

Ryan growled as he watched the unending, its tendrils waving in the air like snakes ready to strike. At the same time the negative energy it was releasing was eating away at their energy reserves. The trees around them pulsed as Luma and Zeke stepped out. Luma was holding a strange looking sword, still in it's sheath.

"This isn't good." Ryan said, never taking his eyes off the unending. "Any ideas?"

"Not a one." Luma said growled as she watched the trees around them start withering. "We need to get rid of it and fast."

"Oh please." The unending said laughing. "You little pests can't harm me."

The unending turned it's attention to a Jade and the wolf creature next to her. It's tendrils shot out to grab them but Sabera rushing forward and quickly drew Dragon Spine from Jade's side. With two quick strikes she cut the tendrils down making the unending hiss as it pulled back.

"Magic blades!" The unending hissed as the tendrils quickly regenerated. "Wasn't expecting that but no matter."

"Taking lessons from Jade I see." Ryan said noting it's dislike of enchantments. "The blades are forged to destroy evil. We can harm it at least."

"Yea a few." Sabera said as she crouched down, put a hand on Jade and the wolf before teleporting away.

"Good, atleast they're safe." Latias said as she watched the unending. "Luma do these things have any weaknesses?"

"Besides darkness not really." Luma said growling. "From what I've read in the grand archives these things are stabilized by five negative energy cores. Four sub and one main. Taking the sub cores will weaken it but taking out the main core will kill it. If not for these barriers we wouldn't stand a chance."

"Your only delaying the inevitable." The unending said laughing as it's body sprouted more tendrils. "Its foolish to fight me."

"Shut up!" Ryan hissed and entered his god form and pointed his hands at the unending. "Judgment fire! Die in holy flames you foul beast!"

Ryan watched as the beams of fire fired out of his hands and slammed into the unending. To his horror when the smoke cleared the unending was barely singed.

"Oh that tickles." The unending said laughing. "Was that supposed to hurt? Come on, give me your best shot."

Ryan growled and looked at Latias who nodded. Ryan charged the unending as Latias unleashed a ground judgment into the earth. The ground under the unending explored sending it skyward. Ryan growled as he quickly closed in on the unending, both hands on his blade.

"Neutron cleaver!" Ryan roared as his blade erupted into a cracking lightning storm. "Take this!"

Ryan roared as he blade slammed into the unending cleaving it clean in two. Ryan's momentum carried him several yards away from the unending as the two halves slammed into the ground. He could hear it shrieking as the two halves thrashed around before they reformed into a whole.

"OK, that one hurt." The unending hissed as hes tentacles shot out and slammed into Ryan.

The others watched in horror and they bound him and started slamming him into the ground relentless. Zeke took off to try and save Ryan but stopped short as Sabera teleported in and cut Ryan free with a mighty swing before teleporting away again. Ryan groaned as he tried to regain his bearing. The unending roared in rage as he went to grab him again. Luma growled as she drew her blade and lunged forward with a mighty overhead swing. The blade seamed to cut the air, sending a sort of crescent sharped blade flying across the area. The blade slammed into the tendrils cutting them. Moments later the air seamed to explode, started from where the strike started all the way through the tendrils and several feet past. That quickly woke Ryan and he teleported back to the group, the unending shrieking in pain and confusion.

"What the hell was that?!" Ryan asked as he healed his wounds.

"Its called a wind striker." Luma said as she sheathed the blade and summoned a longsword. "They're crystal blades so thin they cut the air. They're very fragile so they can't be used in direct combat. Too hard of a strike or trying to block with it will cause them to shatter. Devastating but not always the best course of action."

By this time the unending had recovered and was growling as it flooded the area with even more negative energy.

"Crap, this isn't good." Ryan said as he diverted more energy to his shield. "We need to find one of those cores."

"I grow tired of these games." The unending said as he raised several tendrils up and launched blasts of energy from them.

"Crap run!" Zeke said as they all scattered.

The group spread out trying to avoid the blasts. Anything the negative energy hit withered and died instantly. Ryan knew he had to stop it before to did too much damage. Charged another neutron cleaver he turned and rushed the tendrils over the unending. To everyone's horror one of the tendrils snapped around and fired a blast right into Ryan's chest sending him flying past everyone and into the ground. Ryan laid there writhing in pain as he held his chest. Zeke shot over and used his powers to erect a barrier of stone to protect them as they tried to help Ryan. Latias managed to pull Ryan's hands away and was horrified at what she saw. The flesh on Ryan's chest was decaying at a rapid rate. They could already see his ribs.

"Oh god, what do we do..." Latias said horrified.

"We use this." Luma said as she held out a hand and a small rift formed.

Luma reached into the rift and pulled out a strange black stone. She held it against the wound and the decay slowed to a stop as the stone consumed the negative energy. Luma quickly healed the horrible wound, not even a scar remained. Ryan laid there panting as he tried to recover.

"Can we use that against the unending?" Latias asked.

"Sadly no." Luma said looking at the stone. "It's far to small and weak. I can use it to heal wounds, that about it."

"Guys we got a problem!" Zeke yelled as the unending started slamming against the barrier. "We need a plan! I can't hold this forever!"

Ryan let out a growl as he got up. "Now I am mad."

Ryan and Latias looked at each other and nodded before entered their dragon god form. The two charged their blades with lightning and rushed past the barrier. Ryan struck first, cleaving hard horizontally along the unending while Latias struck vertically cleaving the unending into four pieces. They both fired off a power blast of psychic energy blowing it to pieces. Shockingly they didn't hit a single core.

"What the hell?!" Ryan growled as he watched the unending reform. "Where the hell are those things?!"

The four sections of the unending pushed together into a ball and unleashed a shockwave of negative energy. The shockwave blew Zeke's barrier to bits as well as sending Ryan and Latias flying back, knocking them both out cold. As this was happening Sabera was watching a distance with Jade.

"We need to help them." Jade growled as she tried to take Dragon Spine from Sabera.

"No Jade!" Sabera said pulling it from her hands. "You can't get within twelve yards of that thing without doubling over. Even with the wards! I can barely stand to be around it for a few seconds."

"My parents need help!" Jade said as she watching the Unending start to move toward them.

Sabera was about to teleport to get them when the grass around them glowed brightly and they vanished. After a few moments they reappeared next to Zeke.

"Nice job love." Luma said as she stepped forward, her blade drawn. "Lets show this thing what happens with you mess with our world."

Zeke nodded and the two rushed forward, Luma to the left, Zeke to the right. Zeke let out a growl as the ground under the unending glowed brightly before hundreds of blades of grass erupted out of the top of the unending, each hardened by Zeke powers. The grass started to decay quickly but it stopped it long enough for Luma to lash out with her blade, taking a huge chunk out of it. On the other side Zeke had cloaked his claws and teeth in a bark like substance and was ripping into the unending, ignoring the pain from the negative energy as it burned away at his body. The Unending let out a savage screech as it released another shock wave, blowing them both back. The two quickly regrouped and tended to their wounds as the unending healed.

"We need to find a way to stop this bastard." Zeke growled. "It just keeps freaking regenerating!"

"We need to find those cores." Luma said as he watched the unending. "Think you can bind it for a few seconds?"

"I can try, the forest around us has nearly had it." Zeke replied as he channeled his aura into the ground. "I can hold it for ten seconds, fifteen tops."

Luma nodded and the two started to circle the unending. It growled as it lashed out as them. Zeke jumped back and let out a howl. The ground around the unending erupted as tree roots into the unending, binding it to the ground. Like Zeke feared the corrosive power of negative energy quickly ate through the roots. As soon as the roots bound it, Luma shot into the air and charged energy into her blade. With a mighty yell she charged down, slammed through the unending and into the ground, releasing a shock wave of energy and blew the unending into thousands of pieces.

"Did we kill it..." Zeke wondered aloud as he walked over to Luma. "Did you hit a core?"

"I don't know." Luma said as she watched the remains. "Oh crap! Move!"

Luma and Zeke jumped out of the way as the pieces suddenly shot to where they just were.

" I've had it with you whelps!" The Unending roared as it reformed. "Now you all die!"

Luma and Zeke could only watch in horror as the unending raised all its tendrils to the sky and a huge ball of negative energy formed. The unending screeched as he sent the ball flying at them. Zeke did the only thing he could think of and jumped onto Luma to try and shield her from the blast. They both braced themselves for the blast but it never came. Slowly they looked to see the cloaked figure from before, a hand held out, stopping the ball like it was nothing. The figure just chuckled as they brought their other hand forward and quickly absorbed the sphere.

"Silly light walkers, trying to kill an unending with force." The figure said chuckling as he walked toward the Unending. "The cores are part of it. You can't just blow it to pieces and hope you hit one."

The Unending growled and lashed out but with one swing of the figure's claws the tendrils were severed. The unending shrieked as he tried to retreat to the vortex, quickly realizing it was far outmatched. The figure grinned as it rushed forward and slammed its fist deep into the unending and when they ripped it back out they had a pulsing black sphere in it's hand.

"Damn just got one of the small ones." The figure said chuckling as he crushed the sphere. "Wow, your are a total weakling. I mean seriously, weak doesn't being to describe you."

"This isn't over!" The unending roared as it retreated through the vortex and closed it.

"You two alright?" The figure said as he looked over at Luma and Zeke.

"Why did you save us?" Luma asked as she and Zeke got up.

"Because we all have parts to play." The figure said looking up at the sky. "Did you feel it? The power that wolf had."

"You felt it too..."Luma said as she and Zeke tended to Ryan and Latias. "If thats who I think it is then Leon's powers and Jade's reactions to negative energy just started making a lot more sense."

"As the spark of darkness gave birth to the demons, so to did the spark of light create the angels and the cruelty of mortal kind ushered in the birth of the unending." The figure said looking at them. "Balance in all things, as was Ammy's plan. All part of the great cycle. So too shall the sparks be reborn and the great cycle begins anew as the torch is pass from old to new."

"The journal of Ikos the spark of Darkness." Zeke said as he looked at him. "What are your plans now?"

"For now, watch and wait for the right time." The figure said looking at the sky. "The spark of darkness will need a teacher to come to terms with his new found powers. When the time comes I will take that place."

"Who the heck is that..." Jade said confused as she and Sabera headed over to them. "Who are you and how the hell did you beat that thing?"

They got no reponse other then a dark laugh as the figure turned into a crow and flew off.

"What the hell just happened?!" Jade growled as she looked at Luma. "Who the hell was that?!"

"A dark being that just saved all out asses." Luma said as she looked at her. "Thats all you need to know for how. The wolf, how is she?"

"Shes stable for the time being." Sabera said. "Jade and I healed what we could. She needs time to fully recover."

"Get her to the medbay and keep an eye on her." Zeke said. "For the time being she is the absolute top priority."

"Whats so special about her?" Jade asked looking at them.

"We can't explain now." Luma said. "Just get her to the house. We'll be there with your parents shortly."

Jade Sabera nodded and headed back to where they left the wolf. Sabera picked up up with her powers and headed into the house with Jade.

"Do you really think thats her?" Zeke asked looking as Luma.

"It's hard to say."Luma replied as she picked up Ryan and Latias. "If it is then the return of Trilor is the least of our concerns."

With that the two headed up to the house.

Another chapter down. Not even Luma, a life bringer can bring down an Unending. Worse off is that if what the dark walker said is true then that is a weak one. Just goes to prove theres scarier things then an angry god. I went on ahead and made a twitter for my account. Not sure if I'll ever use it but I put a link in my profile to it. Until next time, bye everyone.
