Gods, it was early. Way too early to be conscious. What had possessed him to wake up at the crack of ten, anyway?

"I-If it's not too much trouble, Shikamaru-kun, would you please pass the soy sauce?"

Oh, right. He'd promised her. "Huh?"

"The soy sauce," a deeper voice replied as a hand reached over and slid the bottle of salty liquid away from his side of the table. "Here, Hyuuga."

As the condiment was placed in front of her, Hinata inclined her head towards the person who had delivered it and smiled sweetly. "Th-Thank you, Sasuke-san."

"Hn," said Sasuke.

Not long after the occupants of the breakfast table fell back into their usual mode of companionable silence, Shikamaru found himself nodding off again. He wanted to stay awake (in theory, at least), he really did, but it was...so...

"Aren't you hungry, Shikamaru-kun?" Hinata asked, startling him back awake just before his chin managed to touch his chest.

"Uh...," he lowered his eyes to his empty plate. "I guess not."

From the expression on her face after he'd said this, Shikamaru could tell that she was fretting. "You look so tired. Maybe you should go back to bed, Shikamaru-kun..."

"Nah...," he disagreed, leaning back in his chair with his arms folded behind his head.

Hinata, worrywart that she was, scooted her chair closer to his and fixed him with an insistent look. "I-It's important to get your rest."

"You wanted us to have breakfast together, riiiiight?" he countered, failing to stifle a yawn. Stupid morning...

"But..."

Both Shikamaru and Hinata jumped as something landed on the former's plate seemingly out of nowhere. It was an orange. "So eat, then," commanded Sasuke, pulling an apple out of the selection of fruit in the middle of the table for himself. As his teeth sunk into the skin and he tore a chunk of the flesh off with a smacking crunch, his eyes remained calmly trained on his two roommates across the table. He was waiting.

Smirking a little, Shikamaru reached out and took up the proffered orange. As he began to peel it, the invigorating scent of citrus began tingling within his sinus cavities and he began to feel more awake. "So troublesome...," he muttered, mostly to himself.

Ah, relationships could be so troublesome. At least this one was worth it.

Author's Notes: I'm SO SORRY that this is late grovels to SR My personal projects are just SO DISTRACTING and...and...well, that's all I've got actually n.n; I do feel sincerely bad for making you wait for this, though, and feel like it's not even quite what you'd asked for...if anything, it seems like a glorified drabble to me. Alas...well, I hope you like it, anyway. If not, all I can do is volunteer to rewrite it n.n;

For those of you potentially reconsidering asking for fanfiction/art prizes instead of the prize pins, you should know that my semester is ending next week so my free time will soon increase. It shouldn't be this hard to crank something out for winners, swear.

Un-beta'd.
