Rain
"Deidara…" she sobbed. "I love you, Deidara… please don't leave…"
"I love you too, yeah," he murmured from the ground. A drop of water fell onto his face.
It had begun to rain.
Another drop landed on his lips. It was salty. "Don't cry, yeah. I hate it when you cry."
Sakura's hand hovered over the gash in his abdomen. A faint green glow emitted from her palm, but soon faded away. "No! I won't let you die! You can't die! Heal, god dammit!" The green glow returned before quickly disappearing once again. She didn't have enough chakra. She screamed in frustration.
The rain fell harder.
Sakura's head fell into his chest, her petite form shaking as she cried against him.
"I love it when it rains, yeah… It just seems to make everything cleaner, purer. Like everything is being reborn, yeah." He stroked her wet hair comfortingly. His own hair was splayed out beneath him, only a few patches of gold showing. The rest was covered in clay, mud, and dried blood. She lifted her head up again and looked him in the eye. His beautiful, beautiful eyes. They should have been the color of the sea, crisp and light. Now they looked as if covered by a blanket of clouds, dull and subdued. He coughed and blood spattered on her pale skin. The thick, metallic liquid was a stark contrast against her pallid cheeks. He raised a shaky hand to her face. Cupping her cheek with his hand, he rubbed his thumb gently under her eye, wiping away the tear streaks on her skin.
"You're beautiful, yeah." His hand fell loosely and he shut his eyes. A small smile pulled the corners of his lips upward. He looked relaxed, content. If she tried hard enough, she could probably convince herself that he was just sleeping. That he would wake up at any moment, just open his eyes and grin at her. But she didn't even bother. He was gone.
The rain poured down.
Sakura looked up at the grey sky, the rain washing away the blood on her face. It was like the sky was mourning with her. She pulled out all that was left of her exploding tags and covered them in clay, forming a tennis ball-size exploding sphere. She wrapped his long, elegant artist's fingers around it and placed it on his chest. Lying down against him, her head on his shoulder, arm over his chest, and eyes closed, she smiled.
Bang.
The rain kept falling.
I really do love the rain… I mean, have you ever walked out after a thunderstorm and just feel the air? Just breathe in the new air and observe everything around you? How the clouds look, the colors of the sky, the earth, and everything else? I always found that the the world seemed to be tinted a yellow-ish, like some old photograph. This was inspired by a shower (it wasn't really a storm). There was a brief cloud passing over that lightly showered over the ground. Then, the sun shone down and there was absolutely no rain at all. All of a sudden, a different cloud comes up and completely pours down on everything. It was pretty cool. It's hard to imagine, a slight shower followed by complete sun and then a near-downpour. Originally, this was going to be a happy-ending fluffy story. Yes, it changed quite a bit. I thought this was really sad. Truthfully, I almost teared up when I was writing this. But I'm such a sap that that's not saying much. I also had a hard time deciding whether or not she would die with him or she would just let him "go out with a bang" but in the end I decided that she should go with him. It just appealed to me more, I guess. I hope you enjoyed it! Remeber, everytime you review, a bunny gets a carrot. Think of the bunnies!
