"Teyla."
He smiled when she turned her head to him, her eyes opening slowly. The light in the room buried her in his bed but he didn't need to see her; he knew her face like the back of his hand. He could make out the glittering of her eyes as they stared across at him, dark and welcoming and he leaned further over her, his hand sliding down his head to his neck as his lips descended quickly on hers. He smiled and pulled back when she sighed, his fingers rising to trace the line of her cheekbone.
"You are so beautiful..." he murmured into the darkness, and he could feel her warm breath caress his lips as his finger did the same to hers.
"It is three o'clock in the morning, John," she replied, equally as quiet and John ducked his head slightly, looking up at her through his lashes, even though she could not see him. He felt her hand on his arm, her fingers gentle and warm as they touched his cool skin. "Go back to sleep..." she whispered quietly, her voice trailing off a little at the end as sleep tugged at her.
He nestled into the cover slightly, laying his head flat against the pillow, one hand tucked under his cheek, the other laying delicately against her hip. He could feel her breathing against his chest, her body rising and falling with the deep rhythmic breaths. He smiled and shuffled closer to her, resting his head on her shoulder.
"I can't."
"Hmm?" she mumbled and John couldn't help but smile before pressing a kiss against the skin under his lips.
"I can't sleep."
He heard her sigh and almost felt regret for keeping her awake. He pulled her closer to him.
"Why not?"
He shrugged as best he could, his finger drawing light circles on her hip. Her breath caught.
"I keep thinking I'll wake up." He could feel her head turning to him, could see in his mind's eye the frown on her brow. He smiled lightly. "I can't believe you're here with me."
He heard her gentle laugh and he couldn't help the grin that spread across his lips when she turned from him, tugging his arm with her, his body following and he spooned behind her. He tucked himself around her body, resting his head against the nape of her neck, his lips brushing her skin whenever either of them breathed.
"I am going nowhere, John Sheppard." He smiled again. "Go to sleep, John," she told him gently and he closed his eyes, content.
It wasn't long before he was asleep.
