Today was an important day. Not because of some famous person or event, nay not even an important day for the world at large. No, today was an important day just to Doctor Mary Malone, PhD. Because today Dr. Mary Malone (PhD) became one of an elite team studying the amazing, spectacular and altogether puzzling –Dark Matter!
But Mary, despite her sudden leap into the wondrous world of theoretical astro physics was bitter (but only slightly, mind you.). Mary was bitter because she, doctor Mary Malone, Physicist, engineer, computer programmer and former nun (former because she had tasted marzipan and gosh-darn-it she was gonna' taste it again!) nor any of her lesser colleagues were permitted to put their names on the door! No, that honor was the sole entitlement of Director Lazarus- The Fiend!
Now Mary, despite her no longer being a Nun, was generally a good girl/nice woman; but when she saw her boss' name and not her own she couldn't leave it alone…Were director Lazarus perhaps more of a gentleman and allowed her to put her name on the door then maybe –just maybe- she would have been able to retrain herself; but he wasn't a gentleman so Mary didn't even bother trying to exercise the aforementioned restraint.
That was the reason Dr. Mary Malone found herself taping a piece of paper on the door over kind Dr. Lazarus' name and writing on it with a large black (did I mention LARGE?) Sharpie marker the letters R-I-P.
And that is the story of how Dr. Mary Malone made her first stand against the Authority.
