We have finally reach the last chapter of this story. I am happy I came back after so many years to finish it. Thank you for all your support and kind words!
"John," Teyla's frantic voice called his name. He felt weak and confused.
"Sheppard," a voice said in his head. John felt as if someone had stuck a dozen needles into his mind. John's mind came back to reality. He felt lost and daze as his eyes darted about trying to make sense of what was going on. Than it rushed back to him, they were trying to escape.
"John stay with us," Teyla was leaning over him, her face washed with panic. He'd been drop between some stone columns.
"No dying," Molly said mentally, much gentler this time.
"Trying," he thought back. Taking in the scene he found the team had made it maybe a quarter of the way around the large ruins. John wasn't sure when he had blacked out but it was clear they had become pin down. Lorne was giving cover fire, to keep the wraith from advancing on their rear.
He found that the enemy wraith had taken up position at the other end of the ruins they were trying to go around. Thankfully the ruins weren't smooth with large columns having been carved into it, giving the team some eddies to take cover in. He had been dropped in to one. The wraith were targeting them from both sides, forcing them to stay pressed against the rock face to avoid being hit.
His attention turned to McKay and Ronon, who he found were close by. Ronon rested on the ground near him, John had to watch carefully too see Ronon's chest rise and fall. At least he was alive, he feared for his friend's long-term health but pushed the thought aside. McKay was leaning heavily on the wall but was still on his feet helping in the fight. Out of the three he seemed to be doing the best, go figure. The wraith drone they'd had with them was missing.
The sound of a dart drew John's eyes, he spotted a dart dropping out of the sky. The dart made a b-line toward the temple and open fire. The round hit above them sending stone debris tumbling down on them but the structure thankfully didn't collapse. John could see massive cracks in the three story high stone ruins. Not good he mentally thought.
"We can't stay here," Teyla said, her eyes also on the cracks in the stone.
"Can't you get one of the commanders to blow himself up," Lorne asked while ducking to avoid being hit by another wraith blast.
"They're on to me. Their working in teams to protect each other and attack me," Molly yelled back over the explosions. She was still at the lead but had taken cover between two of the columns.
"Great," McKay squeaked out as the temple was hit by another blast from a dart, sending another cloud of stone fragments down on them.
"Do you know where the others are?" Teyla asked firing the wraith stunner at two wraith.
"Captain Evans and his team are on the far side of this," Molly tilted her head toward the section of ruins that jettison out, that they were trying to get around. "The same group of wraith were dealing with is keeping them lock down."
"We have to move, or that is going to fall on us," Lt. Miller said. Of course, knowing the obvious made little difference, for if they step out of cover they were going to be mowed down by the two attacking wraith parties. The dart turned about to make another run on them, it was closing in for another attack when it exploded midair. Parts of the ship cascaded down hitting the ground and sending a cloud of dirt up. Another dart zoomed overhead firing on a second dart. The sky quickly became a battlefield as wraith darts chased wraith darts.
"What the hell?" Lorne said, also realizing the wraith were fighting. Molly wore a puzzled look for a moment but than a smile bloomed on to her face.
"What?" Teyla asked as one of the darts fired on the wraith party at the end of the ruins from them.
"My worshipers took over the other wraith hive. They are quite the clever humans." Molly face was alight with joy as the enemy wraith found themselves under attack. Molly press forward, clearly realizing the enemy wraith had been taken by surprise, giving them the chance they needed to make some ground. Lorne return to John side, once again blinding pain shot through John as Teyla and Lorne lifted him.
The team move slowly but they continued to make progress with the wraith attention divided. They were a quarter of the way to the end when the wraith stopped firing before they could ask why, Captain Evans came around the corner followed closely by Anna and Chairmonte.
"Nice to see you all," Lorne said relief flooding across his face.
"You've look better." Captain Evans said, worry covered his face as he looked at the other team. That was an understatement John thought, they look like hell. The group moved into the center for better cover. Chairmonte covered one end and Taroni the other, to make sure the wraith didn't sneak up on them.
"We need the antidote," Teyla said not hiding the fear in her voice. Anna drop down next to them and open her bag. There was a dozen or so vials.
"Molly do you know what they were poison with?" Anna asked.
"Yes, I pried it from my mother's mind before she died. Use this one for Sheppard, Ronon, and Mckay she held up a blue vial. This one for Teyla, Lorne, Taroni and Miller she indicated to a green one" Just as the sound of a gunshot close by drew there attention.
"Where is Rice?" Captain Evan asked, but got his answer only a moment later as she appeared from behind the burning debris of a dart. She sprinted over to join them.
"Nice to see you sir," Her hair was a mess and she had a cut on the side of her head, John didn't know how she had gotten hurt but was happy she was ok.
"I must go to my father," Molly rose up. It only dawn on John now that Todd wasn't among the other team.
"Without knowing what he was poisoned with I could not do anything," John saw fear on Anna's face, as she drew the substance into a syringe. She came to John's side to inject it into his arm. The substance felt like ice running into his arm and he try to not think about all the things that could go wrong with the wraith made cure.
"Give them the antidote quickly. I must help him," Molly ordered, her voice showed worry but not anger. Anna move quickly injecting them each with the correct antidote.
"Let's hope it works fast," Lorne said as the group got ready to move out. Molly kept them at a fast pace but they continue to encounter a few wraith from time to time, but thankfully they weren't pin down. The darts had retreated from the sky and John took that as a positive, assuming Molly's people had won. By the time they reach the Jumper John felt a smidge better. At least he felt like his lungs weren't about to collapse. The jumper door came down and Molly went to Todd. Todd was lying on the floor, a blanket placed under his head. The wraith was unmoving and unresponsive to their presents. Molly placed her hand on his chest. There was no change and Molly's face showed visible fear.
Teyla and Lorne help John sit down and John studied Todd. The wraith had been trouble more than once, but he had no desire to see him die. Particularly not because he'd been trying to help save John and his people. A deep gasped erupted from Todd and his eyes fluttered open. The wraith looked confused and alarmed for a moment.
"You remain strong father," Molly said a smile returning to her lips.
"Good to see you," Molly helped Todd sit up. "And you commander Sheppard."
"Well were both alive," John said his voice dry and low.
"Indeed, it would seem we will both live to fight another day."
"Great," The voice cause John to glance over to find Ronon awake again. He was glaring at Todd with his I hate you look on. A smile spread on to John's face feeling confident Ronon would make a full recovery.
"Good to see you pal," John said drawing Ronon's attention.
"Yeah," he said.
"Are you coming with us?" Lorne asked from where he was getting the jumper ready to leave.
"No, Major Lorne. My mother's hive remains crippled and my worshipers have landed a transport ship nearby," Molly reached under Todd's arm helping him stand. Todd appeared shaky on his feet, but John was sure he'd be up to no good soon enough. Molly snatched the bag with the capsules in it.
Those were a problem. If Todd upgraded his ships it was bound to become their problem in the future. It seemed he wasn't the only one to have figured that out, Taroni and Captain Evans blocked the two wraith from leaving.
"Sheppard tell your friend to move," Molly glanced at John. John knew they outnumbered the two wraith and might be able to drop them, then again, her mental powers could be a problem and he couldn't ensure one of his people wouldn't end up dead.
"If I have the ships, it will benefit us both," Todd said.
"Guys," McKay's voice drew their attention, John followed Rodney's gaze outside. A handful of humans and two wraith were taking aim at the jumper and those people visible through the open hatch.
"Seriously," Lorne grumbled from the front.
"Do not fire," Molly said looking to a tall human male. "They are our friends, aren't we Sheppard."
"Let them go," John ordered and the two men stepped aside. The wraith made their way over to the group and Molly turn giving them a friendly wave as the jumper hatch shut.
"May you heal fast Sheppard. I'm sure we'll meet again." Molly's voice whispered into his head as the jumper lifted into the sky.
"Can't wait," John thought back.
"She's going to be a problem," Teyla said.
"They both are," John said leaning his head back against the wall. "But we will deal with that tomorrow." John muttered letting his eyes fall shut. He was happy for this mission to be over with and to top it off no one had died. That made it a pretty good day after all, he thought as they headed home.
