Summary: Many years have passed since the final battle. The new Smash tournament is just beginning with new members on both fighters and assists trophies side. Pit and Palutena are requested to join Master and Crazy for the new season. Pit is just happy to see everyone again.
Me: We're here guys. The final chapter. This is where it ends and the beginning of the 4th Smash Brothers.
Epilogue: The End of Brawl and the Beginning of New
An angel's mission is never done. Even after Tabuu was defeated once again, the angels had to repair Angel Land. That's the story everyone knows, but Pit will never say how there were more problems even after a big threat was gone.
All Pit needed to say was that more Gods and Goddesses threw themselves into the conflict. The main ones being the Goddess of Nature Viridi and the God of the Underworld Hades. Medusa constantly coming back to get even with Palutena and the angels was getting really old and even Medusa knew that, yet she didn't have the power to stop others from reviving her to fight their pointless battles. It was a tragic fate she was subjected to.
Despite three years Pit and all the angels refused to talk about shit hitting the fan in their human world, there were good things that came out of the huge gap. A new girl had joined the ranks of the royal bodyguard taking the ninth seat. Her name was Saber Maronette; a girl with long pink hair and menacing red eyes (and a beauty mark to boot). Due to the chaos the angels caused in this three year gap, it wasn't a surprise that taking her in was the right thing to do. Her powers were unique. She could communicate with the spirits of the dead and use them as weapons specifically sharp tools for cutting. Her death magic made it appear like she was a fallen angel…and she might as well be. Saber like Pit and Li, was an Amail and that was probably why Pit took pity on her when she was burned at the stake. Saber as a result of her trauma in the human world, didn't speak much in the same vain as Aqua, and when words did come out of her mouth the words were far from pleasant. In fact, unless you were Isaak or Aqua, you were more likely to be insulted with her sharp tongue. This attitude usually resulted in making Rita cry even though she never intended to hurt him.
Speaking of Rita, ever since he, Ginger and Kaguju proved themselves to Palutena in the war against Tabuu, they have been recruited as royal bodyguards (although they start at ten, eleven and twelve because putting Rita near Pepper was asking for trouble). Rita's division ended up being the cleaning division sadly as even if he he's acknowledged as a royal bodyguard, his army consisted of young orphaned children who cleaned the palace instead of battling (Sun-Wong didn't want them to fight after what happened with Tabuu). Rita didn't mind though because he wanted the stamina to last longer in battle so he wouldn't be a liability. Ginger in contrast was not happy with the low ranking (because he wasn't close to Pepper) and declared to Pit that he would be the new Captain if Pit didn't watch his back. The white angel humored him and accepted the challenge even though Pit could never challenge him to a flight race. It was Kaguju that put Ginger in his place.
Palutena specifically put Kaguju as the last member. Even with all the things he did to help the Goddess, Palutena was far from forgiving. Something happened between the two to prevent Palutena from even thanking Kaguju for his assistance. Kaguju was fine not getting the respect he deserved from her. It made Pit wonder what the hell happened between the two and why Kaguju would refer to Palutena in casual terms while the Goddess of Light allowed him to while lecturing him like a nagging mother.
All the royal bodyguards though have been recovering especially Li. Now that he knew he wasn't alone and Tabuu was no longer mentally abusing him, Li could finally recover and be a stable angel with the group now and it showed with his constant apologizing particularly to Isaak who kept telling the dark angel it was okay. Li was referring to Roger's death as he wouldn't be here today without Roger's sacrifice…and after thinking the royal bodyguards replaced him all this time, that was never the case and now he felt like he destroyed Roger's chance of being part of this wonderful group of angels. Isaak would pat him on the back and explained that Roger wouldn't like it for them to be upset over his death. He went out in style defending the angels he called family and that was all that mattered.
But the angels recovering was still a long road especially with the Gods and Goddesses throwing themselves at Palutena just to mess with the human world. It was really obnoxious but kept Pit busy.
In the meantime though, Master Hand was going around recruiting new members into the Smash family. Of course, he evaluated what the Smashers did during the war from a distance and he gave special treatment to those people.
For example Little Mac's valor when he went with Captain Falcon and DK to save Roger was documented and that was enough for him to be promoted from assist trophy to Smasher. This was more than what he could ask for. Unfortunately, people like Lyn and Shadow despite doing the most work, were still assist trophies. Shadow could understand why Lyn rebelled in the first place especially since someone from her world who was a woman would be recruited but not her who had been in the Brawl tournament.
This also meant that others got scouted such as Midna. For her to bring the Greil Mercenaries to heaven and the performance they did (no casualties) allowed her to be accepted into the Smash Brothers mansion officially as an assist…and of course apparently Crazy thought it would be funny to recruit the crazy Skull Kid too (and Link wasn't pleased by that).
Midna was even fortunate enough to be recruited as the new leader of the assist trophies. After that rebellion, order needed to be maintained and because Midna was a queen, Master thought she would fit the roll perfectly…not realizing that with Midna around there would be chaos.
Master went all out though with the recruiting and scouted Rosalina and Palutena, two Goddesses who were the most helpful during the war. Yes, he was asking too much for them to tone their power level down, but being represented as divine beings after the display they showed in saving the world. It would have been nice if Yuna could be with them too, but she passed on.
And then Master started going for the third party recruits. The minute Pit heard Megaman was scouted, the angel was immediately excited to see him again (of course Pit sighed in defeat hearing Pac-Man. He should be happy like the rest of the angels especially Valerie who was going crazy over character announcements but Pit DID say he wanted to fight a swordsman like Lloyd Irving.)
The best part was Sonic was allowed to come back…well the group that fought Tabuu to allow Palutena to defeat him were back immediately. Pit was chosen first amongst all the Smashers despite the fact Pit caused the problems in the first place (plus Master needed to replace many Assist trophies or reprogram them such as Andross and Devil). This also included Marth, Fox and Ike. Apparently, there was debate amongst the humans if Ike would return for whatever reason. They had no fate in him, Lucario and Toon Link…and they have all back. Lucario apparently bathed in the tears of his haters and with the new Pokémon trainer that would be in the mansion, there would be more tears.
Apparently Li has some form in Smash Brothers. The dark angel was still being secretive at what that role will be.
There was more information on who DIDN'T make the cut. The one person that could not participate this year joining Roy in particular was Red. His injuries were apparently so bad that it would prevent him from actually being up there with his Pokémon. That's why, Red would allow his Charizard at the very least to think for itself like Pikachu and that's most of the time as he can still give orders from the machine.
Snake's whereabouts were also unknown. His stage seemingly foreshadowed events that would happen in the future for Snake…but one thing is for sure…he wasn't coming back, and it wasn't because he was kicked out either. Snake just…cut ties with Smash Mansion completely. Master and Crazy couldn't find him after the war. This devastated Link more than anyone else (well maybe Luigi slightly and Samus who was going to miss having another person after her heart). Snake helped him get away from Ganondorf's clutches, but this also meant that he had to fend for himself now. With Smash Brothers Mansion no longer separating heroes from villains, Ganondorf could easily access Link's room now. However, the war might have humbled him…in fact, during those years after things settled down in Skyworld, Palutena invited Ganondorf over for some sweets. God knows why this happened, but she had a blast with him…and Pit was there just staring at Ganondorf in paranoia…before joining in on the fun. Link felt betrayed by this but if Ganondorf left him alone…it was probably for the best.
That was another thing! The dark door was gone with the segregation between heroes and villains removed! Yuna had done her job in getting rid of it. Tabuu wouldn't appear before them anymore, right?
There were other nice things about being in this tournament. Master allowed the Smashers to upgrade their move set so things would be "more balanced". Link finally got his dash attack that he wanted to do since the beginning. Kirby switched out his Final Smash with a new ability he learned. Pit finally was able to show off his badassery and the Three Sacred Treasures that he used to beat Medusa again (but don't tell anyone Hades broke it before. Pit had to beg Isaak's vice-captain Maggie to nag Dyntos to repair it for Smash Brothers despite The Great Sacred Treasure would have been a better Final Smash). And of course, you have Luigi. No longer would he have the Negative Zone for being in Mario's shadow. He happily embraced his Poltergeist 5000 and overall was happier to be around his brother because he was finally acknowledged for being a different person (of course, giving the death glare during the recent karting event, probably helped). Heck at the end of the day, they all were able to get customized moves when not in the tournament meaning more variety in combat. Palutena of course benefited from this the most because she was the Goddess of Light (that favoritism Master Hand).
When Pit finally set foot on the soil of Smash Brothers Mansion, he looked up in awe at how ginormous the mansion had gotten (wonder how much hell Mr. Game and Watch and ROB went through to make it this big). The first thing he noticed was the blue robot gazing in aww at the mansion as hell. The angel wanted to cry seeing the back of an old friend when the angel was still a little cherub.
"Megaman! The Super Fighting Robot!" Pit shouted as he tackled him from behind.
Megaman jumped from the sudden contact. Looking back, he gasped seeing the angel of light. He immediately smiled.
"Pit, it's been a while."
"Far too long Rock! Where have you been?"
Immediately, Megaman's expression darkened. Looking down he shook his head. "I…rather not talk about it."
"Oh…"
"But hey, I get to battle you at long last. You really grew up." Megaman changed the subject rather quickly as he gave the angel a high five.
"You too! I can't wait to see you battle!"
"I know, you're here…and Sonic…and Mario…and Pac-Man…it's a dream come true…"
It really was when Pit thought about it. The greatest of all fighters offered by the enigma of the universe asking them all to join in for a battle to please the universe. It was remarkable to say the least.
"Hey, isn't that Sonic over there?"
The angel looked up and saw the blue hedgehog waving at them. He was moving slow because he was assisting Red who was on crutches and couldn't go at the same pace. It was a miracle how he was apparently able to go through the entire Unova region (then again, his injuries might have disappeared in his world only to come back when he attempted to re-register for Smash). Someone else was supporting Red. It was a pale skinned individual with raven colored hair and grey eyes. He was fashionable to say the least spotting a black fedora hat with black sunglasses and a blue sporty outfit. Compared to Red who was energetic and Blue who was egotistic but mellowed out, this kid was aloof and showed little emotion as he helped a fellow trainer out. He must have been the Greninja trainer that threw everyone off and thought it was Mewtwo.
"Sonic, Ash, over here!" Pit called out.
"Pit!" Red shouted as he wanted to rush but the crutches wouldn't let him.
"Don't speed. You'll only get hurt." The older trainer spoke.
"Don't tell me what to do X!"
"…I would like to be referred to as Xavier or Calum. X sounds…inappropriate…" He grumbled.
"But X sounds cool! XXX!"
"Do you want me to drop kick you?"
Sonic left Red in the older trainer's care as he high fived both the angel and blue bomber.
"Hey, what's kicking?"
"A lot." Pit said with a laugh. "Would you believe me if I told you I got eaten by a God and almost came out of his rear end?"
"Ewww! No! But if I told you I time traveled and met my younger self, would you believe me?"
"Well, you are the fastest thing alive." The angel hummed. "But how are you and Fox?"
The hedgehog just shrugged his shoulders. "On and off…I should have thought things out when I went out with him. I mean…Falco is…a nuisance…"
"But you still love Fox, right?"
"Of course! I'm going to kick his ass for not communicating with me for so long. He's too busy in his Land Master now to talk to anyone. Heard he's getting ready for another adventure when he's on call."
The angel chuckled. He needed to kick his ass too for all the accusations Fox put him through. Of course he felt bad for Falco. That guy got no role in this story whatsoever being the first victim of Li.
"So Megaman, what was up with that imposter in the Street Fighter versus Tekken tournament? He was fat and ugly!"
Megaman again paled at the question and looked away. "Let's…drop the subject…"
"Oh…"
Well this was awkward…Pit just chuckled as he realized he wanted to see everyone else now. He wanted to know who made it in and introduce himself to the newcomers. The angel waved them good-bye (despite Ash begging Pit to take him to heaven so they can heal his wounds faster. Healing magic didn't work like that!)
The angel went through the hallways and smiled at everyone who had been confirmed so far…of course…the one person Pit feared was a young boy with a perpetual smile. They called him the Villager…and the angel feared this kid was secretly planning to murder them all…despite his assistant dog known as Isabelle saying otherwise.
Pit was overjoyed to see Marth…or it looked like Marth but with boobs. Her name was apparently Lucina and Pit wondered how he would get along with her. She was too serious introducing herself…kind of like Marth before he decided to be a show off in battle. There were twins too…just like him and Li they were both named Robin but to differentiate them, the male decided on the nickname Rob…and there was this blue haired swordsmen too who went by Chrom. Apparently he got falcon punched by Captain Falcon so hard that he was in the same position as Red…too injured to join the roster (and a wounded pride for getting his ass kicked that everyone was laughing at him).
The angel wasn't pleased with the Wii Fit Trainer. No more junk food unless he went back to heaven, ate there and then came back…that was so much work and she gave off the same vibe as the Villager.
Pit was even surprised that Master allowed Zelda and Sheik to be their own person (Samus with and without her suit was too to the audience but to Samus herself, it just meant that she was able to choose whether or not to wear her armor in battle. Master would do all in his power to avoid a double scenario in a match). This was why a female Robin, a male Wii Fit Trainer and a bunch of other insane children from the world of Animal Crossing could be in the mansion as well. Perhaps Li had hope…
"Pit."
The angel froze at the voice after walking through the familiar halls where the cliché bumping into your love interest happened. Looking ahead, he gasped seeing the figure in front of him.
"I can't believe it…Ike…you got buff…"
It was true, Ike who was at least a little bit muscular but not enough to not look his age was now buff like those wrestlers. His muscles…were dashing…and whatever baby face he had left was gone replaced with an adult male. He still had his blue hair and trademark sword…and looked more serious than ever before. However, he smirked looking at Pit's small frame that didn't change at all.
"And you're still a pipsqueak I see."
"H-Hey! Don't make fun of me! Years can go by in Skyworld and I'll still look the same! How many years has it been in your world?!"
"Three."
"Bullshit! More like seven!"
Ike just chuckled as he continued to stare at the angel. Even with the three year gap in his world, he never forgot Pit. The angel cut ties with him in case they never saw each other again…but now that Ike was back, the angel shouldn't have to worry about time and distance. The angel's heart was beating faster than ever. No matter how many years past…he was going to love Ike…and even though this would backfire when Ike's life would end ahead of time while he remained the same…he didn't care anymore…because he honestly was a fallen angel…or an angel that fell for a human.
"Ike…"
"Yes?"
The angel didn't realize he had tears in his eyes. Rushing toward his beloved, the angel jumped into his arms which Ike happily opened them to catch the angel.
"We're home again."
Me: We're done with 9703 words (most are from notes though). This is the end of Fallen Angel. After 6 years, the story is done. Holy crap…
Li: Applaud Pepper.
Me: I did it…notes…one last time.
1. Remember chapter 19 when an illusion of Pit told Sonic who he wanted in the 4th Smash Brothers? Megaman was one of them. That was 5 years ago. I swear to fucking god this story…
2. Megaman being silent about what happened is a reference to Capcom treating him horribly. Backstory? You won't get one now. Still thinking.
3. Snake being gone stems from the idea that he's not going to be a returning character, but the way it's written implies that he hasn't been found in time yet. This way I don't have to be incorrect.
4. Calum/X/Xavier is the male protagonist from X/Y. He was chosen over Serena due to type preference. I imagine him with Greninja and Serena with Delphox. I know I made Black the stoic protagonist in my Pokémon story but this is due to him not having much to say in contrast to Calum who has a hard time expressing himself.
5. Falco/Fox/Sonic will probably continue if I go beyond Fallen Angel simply because it wasn't fair for Sonic to take Fox when Falco was taken. Sonic doesn't understand how to handle relationships well hence why he kind of shrugs it off when talking about it. It will be a problem.
6. I didn't sink Ike/Pit in the end. They still haven't gotten a huge kiss at the end…nor gotten in bed with each other. This is how subtle this pairing is in comparison to the above and Red/Blue. Their relationship allows Pit and Li to develop as characters though so if it goes beyond that, I can finally make them take the next step (of course Ike better watch out because Magnus).
Also if some Smashers are not mentioned in the story, it's to prevent my headcanon over who is honestly chosen. This chapter implies that Pit didn't see everyone yet (like the Mario cast) so it still leaves open characters that might get in like Isaac from Golden Sun getting a promotion.
So I guess I should make a list of all the things that have changed between the six years to write this story and why it took so long to finish. There are many things I love and regret about the story.
1. I often brag about how I was one of the few people in the Smash fandom to get Pit's personality right. Remember, Pit was written by the fandom in 2008 as an innocent angel that must be shielded. I wrote him as sarcastic who uses his innocent look to get away with shit. I also made him rather secretive (because of the backstory in this story. In 50 Ways to Piss off Ike, he's more like his Uprising personality lacking any dark backstory and reverting to his captain persona when the royal bodyguards show up to crash the party). Skip to Uprising and he's arrogant, dumb as a brick but not enough to where he can't think up of ideas on his own and overall cheerful with a few moment showing he is very capable of being serious as shown in Fallen Angel (when he tells Hades to go to hell is the most notorious example of Pit at his most serious). Because of that, I met amazing people in the fandom and to this day, I am still friends with them (Par and Zelina56 come to mind). I still remember when the group was huge back then all encouraging each other to work on different Smash Brothers stories and/or artwork.
2. This is what leads to problems later in the years. The golden era for us was gone around 2011 I feel. I have either lost contact with many of the people I knew in the past and can no longer get them to respond to me or I have been betrayed by people thus preventing a huge halt in this story in paranoia of someone coming in and false reporting the story. On my Archive of our Own page, I have brought up how I feel betrayed by the website I had been on since 2007. For people to know, after Uprising came out in 2012, I wrote a story for Zelina56 by request. Her birthday was around and I wanted to write a pairing no one has given thought to. This is why I wrote Hades/Pit depicting a dark intake of the aftermath of Uprising. It got flagged despite it being a nightmare scenario of Pit being assaulted by Hades. People on the website like to say the rules of M and MA were always enforced but to me this has been proven time and time again to be untrue and was a huge double standard. At the same time someone uploaded a Magnus/Pit story that had lemon. This story was not removed while mine was removed within two days. Given how small the Kid Icarus fanbase is on , I would have never expected anyone to give a strike. So I did research and it was because of Critics United who claim they remove stories that are badly written, trolls or break the rules but you look through their thread and they are just a gang of bullies who make a list of yaoi stories (and they have made a lot of homophobic comments in the thread) and often go in a swam to insult the writer before getting the story deleted because the writer can react. This is harassment and they claim that they're doing it when the moderators can't but it's really them just going through stories they don't like. This is why I moved to Archive of our own to post stories and why my stories as of late has overall avoided any detailed sex/rape situations. Fallen Angel is actually safe because M and MA difference is MA is describing adult situations but M is just bringing up the situation and never going into any detail into it. Basically it destroys creativity and if MA stories aren't allowed, why the hell is the rating still on the website for people to see. They keep making the excuse that you should read the rules but they never enforce it. So what happened was I went to Deviant Art to bitch and was called a rape apologist by the very people I made friends with in the Smash fandom for writing it and then insulting my very character. I have never felt so betrayed by that person who kept saying it was my fault and then confessing she reported the story. So she never told me she had a problem with it and instead decides to put a strike on my account and put me as a fucking rape apologist. So apparently writing nightmare scenarios are rape apologists. And it's fucking hypocrisy to boot because when have any of my rape scenarios in any story been "hot and sexy?" I'm pretty sure Sonic getting assaulted in this story was far from "hot". And it's bigger hypocrisy when she turns around and has M stories and I have to be the bigger person by not reporting her for her hypocrisy. But this is the reason why Fallen Angel has had a schedule slip the most out of any story. The fear of my fanfictions being removed without any warning and eight years of this website wasted because of a backstabbing bitch who I thought I was her friend (and it doesn't help she lied about Par and dragged Zelina into this online drama I always try to avoid when it comes to Fanfiction). Again this is also why the story Higanbana in the Red Moon lacks any detailed scenes. Basing it on Vanquished Queens allows you to start up something horror only to stop it right there but in general this prevents anything from getting done. Archive of Our Own actually protects writers with the 18+ rating as well as that have the story Angelic Nightmare. If this story ever gets removed, hopefully people know the truth on my side of the story and to be cautious of those people. Granted, they are known for going in the big fandoms like Naruto and Kingdom Hearts and attacking those people. A smaller fandom is less likely to be attacked by them which again show that a story can be removed if it's someone you know attacking you.
3. This leads to my confession and regrets in Fallen Angel. In the Smash fandom, people have a tendency of using a murder mystery in which one Smasher is killing the rest of them. I wanted to do that at first but I wanted to stand out so I decided that a villain from the past would come and get revenge on the Smashers by going after one particular character. Pit was chosen because to me he stood out from the rest. An angel with a dark past which the fandom at this time would never latch onto because Pit is "innocent and pure" despite Brawl showing him to be arrogant. From there I simply took characters that I thought were around Pit's age and then made them the main characters in the story. I knew a lot about Sonic so he was taken in. I called Red "Ash" despite them not being the same person because I found it easier to write an established character from the anime rather than taking my own interpretation from the video game. Ike was chosen because I didn't care for Marth and Roy in Fire Emblem but Ike's game Path of Radiance was my first Fire Emblem game and I liked Ike a lot. Plus Ike/Pit was trending in 2008 (now it's usually Ike/Marth and Link/Pit until the new Smash Brothers comes in and changes the pairing trend again). So even in Smash Brothers, my mentality is like what occurs in Umineko. The culprit HAS TO BE SOMEONE IN THE CAST. This lead to the creation of Dark Pit though in the fandom as people was already latching onto Dark Link. Dark Pit was created by the fanbase specifically Smash Brothers due to Pit's alternate costume. I can imagine this huge spread was what leads to Sakurai creating Dark Pit in Uprising. Dark Pit would be nothing without the Smash Brothers fanbase embracing Dark Pit in both Fanfiction and fanart. And Dark Pit by proxy was still considered in the game but the reader would have to think outside of the box. For me I deliberately lead people astray by naming my Dark Pit Lived Twilight (using Li to make people assume Link was the culprit). Even with Dark Pit's canon name being Pittoo, I still will use Li because Li was made before Uprising therefore is still technically my character. Of course, in recent stories the excuse I have for Dark Pit is that he hates the name Pittoo so he came up with a "cool name" that people can call him instead because Dark Pit just implies he's a clone of Pit and Pittoo to him is a stupid name. Sometimes Pepper is the one who comes up with the name and other times, Dark Pit gave the name himself.
At the end of the day, the culprit was Tabuu. This actually is very simple because this is under the assumption Tabuu isn't dead and how I named the characters. Master Hand is called Michiko in human form. Crazy Hand is called Caito so it would make since that Tsusuki is Tabuu. Tabuu had no backstory and he's only hinted to be lonely in Subspace but the fan theory that he represents adults who want to smash childish dreams are there. So Tabuu was put into Pit's backstory (which got changed by the time I finished chapter 46). To be honest, I'm kind of surprised how no one, even my closest friends figured out that Tsusuki was Tabuu. Either no one bothered to figure this out or I was actually good enough to hide who it was until the very end.
4. Now this is kind of an embarrassing confession. What I noticed in stories where it's a kill them all leaving only survivors, this is what struck my cord. A character that is dead can no longer be used in the story unless you have a way to bring them back. This limits character development and just seems to hurt people more because of how their favorite was killed off simply for drama's sake. This is why I resorted to turning Smashers back into trophies. This way they weren't necessary killed and they still had their use in the story such as Tabuu using the trophies as part of a barrier to prevent anyone from entering the Goddess Palace. This is also why I tend to use the crime of rape over the crime of murder. Once you kill someone, you can't do anything but with rape, you can write the psychological damage the character is going through and allow them to give into the despair or to change to be the better. So Sonic being assaulted early was admitting used to grab people's attention… Who would ever attack Sonic the hedgehog and put him in that situation? He's a free-spirit without a care in the world. Wouldn't that kill of his personality? Technically, Sonic almost lost his personality in the story but regained it in chapter 38, but is still suffering from the trauma is still there as shown when he cries rather easily when Fox dies in front of him twice. Even the epilogue implies things still aren't back to normal. And of course, this plot twist at the end of the earlier chapters brought in droves of people.
This leads to other regrets in the story specifically how I treated Ganondorf. I didn't really think much of him when I wrote the story so I had no problem with him getting kicked in the balls or turning him into a rapist opportunist when things were getting chaotic. I can't even fucking change that because Ganondorf has become one of my favorite characters now within the six years. If there was a sequel (but there will be one-shots), I can easily have Ganondorf atone if he wants to hook up with anyone else in the mansion (because I ship with Palutena now and I'm thinking how fucked I am). Of course it wasn't a good idea for Link to be put through this situation. With Snake not being in Smash Brothers, I feel like Link has to deal with the situation if there was a sequel.
5. Many pairings got switched up within the six years of writing. Knuckles/Sonic was written originally but I quickly switched it to Fox/Sonic because the pairing was never used before and it just seemed right in the story (age be damned) given how Fox's character arc starts when he's in a mini mushroom state where all he can do is watch the teen Smashers (ironic because Pit isn't fifteen and I changed that one dialogue log about Pit's age so where he insists he's older than his appearance). Other minor pairings got switched around like Snake/Link was never a thing (and technically isn't because Snake just saved and comforted Link but you never see them interacting outside of that) but Falcon and Samus just seem to be the pairing everyone shipped even though now it's just UST. Mario and Peach getting married isn't a big deal but given how nothing changes even after Galaxy, Bowser will just come off as a guy who can't take no for an answer. Plus I fucked up Link/Zelda with her being too yandere for Link (but for me, this actually sets Zelda up for a crossover ship with Shulk in the future). On my main page, Jill/Lethe was a pairing but then I fell for Haar/Jill who got married canonically in Radiant Dawn so that got ripped off the pairing list. Shadow/Lyn wavered near the end of the story. I set them up but because I REALLY didn't like how the human/animal pairing went from Sonic 06 (which is brutally mocked in chapter 45) so chapter 43 was set up to have Shadow actually wonder about Lyn's age. Lyn might as well have married in Fire Emblem 6 but in this story, she is not Roy's mother allowing her to be single probably. I still support the pairing but because of my view on how human/animal pairings are, it honestly wavered and it shows, but Shadow still cares for Lyn very much vice versa. Finally Kaguju having a hinted relationship with Medusa and his clinginess to Palutena was NEVER in the final product originally. Only recently I added that given how Kaguju's backstory is completely different now than when I first created him. And the one thing that threw me off was Saki being an assist trophy again despite getting a game right after Brawl featuring his son. If there was a sequel, I could finally kill off Saki and have his son take his place…Isaac is nowhere to be found so far in the 4th Smash Brothers…and now this pairing is left ambiguous as a result.
6. OCs has been a big thing in this story. It started with the royal bodyguards. Then I asked people if they wanted their OCs to be in the story as background characters. When I edited the story again, many of them got removed replaced by my own characters. This comes from the betrayal above and losing contact with many of the people. The only characters that have been kept is Par's Haruhi and that's only in chapter 24. Haruhi who supported Pepper during the war portion of the story was replaced by Valerie the soon to be judge. Par has told me though that Haruhi is gone now replaced by a new character so while I'm free to do whatever I want in this story, it's pointless to use Haruhi in any story because she had officially killed off Haruhi like how I pretty much killed Roger in this story. Zelina has been the person with me since the beginning and everything hers has been untouched. Many of the OCs brought up during Palutena's speech when the war portion starts are not even brought up in the story because many are dead. This is because my sets of OCs have changed within the six years. Queen Neptune, Prince Pluto, Emperor Apollo, Queen Hinata, Queen Zoe, Prince Henry, Queen Crystal are all characters that will never be mentioned again because many of my OCs again I have made are Gods and Goddesses used to fit the Kid Icarus universe and they are brought up in my Kid Icarus one-shots. The season cherubs in this story have been demoted such as Winter who was with Abbigale in her introduction. This is simply because my headcanon prevents them from being in charge of their elements. There are older teenagers who are still in charge and unless they are dead, they cannot be used. Then you got the last bunch of OCs replacing many characters there in the first place. Omen was replaced with Raven my witch from the Disgaea universe (and I haven't completed edited Omen's name out). Nina replaced the librarian Yuki and Wright and Ian are Pepper's friends (and they work under her). Fuyumi, Maggie, the Angel Assembly and the archangels were added in to show there were many angels left fighting the war. Also the Angel Assembly and archangels being in does help expose them when Zelina and I are making a visual novel game Divinius. The archangels are already drawn so any appearance in Kid Icarus or Disgaea is an early cameo. To sum it up there are still a lot of OC characters but the royal bodyguards were shaped from this story. Their backstories are different now as shown on the main page and some got added during the six years.
Saber, Rita, Ginger and Kaguju were never part of the original bodyguards. It was always the original eight. Saber despite being in other Smash Brothers story is the last one to join in the group at number nine because I have officially established in Child Come Home (Magnus one-shot) that she is a human before dying and becoming an Angel of Death. Ginger was introduced first in this story as a kid trying to play hero and almost dying. This story establishes Ginger's crush on Pepper despite later stories stating she already adopted him as a little brother. I admit Ginger was shoved in the story to show the last four royal bodyguards before the end. Rita in particular has a small role but I had him be the child Isaak saves during the war and in return joins the group. Finally Kaguju is technically not a member by Palutena's standards yet he fills the role as the last one watching the other royal bodyguards from the shadows. Kaguju's backstory was changed from being neutral to being clingy to Palutena. He doesn't act like this in my older stories to the Goddess but recently I took this stance because of his backstory. He has an odd friendship with Pepper and Himeno but this story establishes he has a soft spot for Ginger for no apparent reason (yet as his Alluring Messenger Sinless Accuser, he rescues Ginger no strings attached). What's funny though was the plan was for Sonic to be the tenth spot with the royal bodyguards offering Sonic a spot because he could summon an Aeon but Sonic turning it down because he preferred living on the ground than the sky (thus denying any chance of Godhood). Given what Yuna has done though, he wouldn't take it anyway.
Finally, the royal bodyguards were given quirks the second time I edited the story to fix the formatting (and to make Sonic more in character). It wasn't apparent until recently but this is what you should notice.
Sun-Wong speaks broken English in this story. If a word is missing when he's talking, it's intentional. His Chinese (taken from google translate) is better though.
Mcenche and Himeno speak Wapanese (saying Japanese words in English sentences). Both of them drop this in the last few chapters because of how serious the situation has become.
Isaak is the most notorious example of the group where the "th" is replaced with "z" for his German accent despite trying to be French. I really like this change because it gives Isaak more character without doing much.
Aqua speaks in lower case except when she's raising her voice. This helps show that she has a monotone voice for everything that occurs and only when shit hits the fan does she speak up.
Roger speaks like a gangster…but it's not as effective so I kind of just have him saying "yo" a lot.
7. The summons…holy shit. Originally the summons would always be there for the angels but recently I have changed the summons to make it my own work and research rather than just taking it from Final Fantasy. This is why the summons are killed off at the end despite stating multiple times in story that the royal bodyguards worked hard to obtain them. It's a slap in the face for them in this story but this allows for my original ideas to kick in. Like I gave Isaak the Lightning Chariot from Uprising in my later ideas because he's a lightning angel (and because there really aren't any mythological beings that aren't so cliché and Isaak is the only one with something in the Kid Icarus universe). Pepper's Chocobo in the future would be changed to a Phoenix…because again copyright but for now Pepper prefers trampling people with Chocobos that change colors. But Kaguju's summon would go from Yojimbo to the Satyr/Satyress army. Okay, if you do not know who Kaguju is with his clinginess to Palutena/Athena and his summon, I'm starting to question my fanbase…
8. Staring with chapter 43, how the final battle played out was extremely different starting with Medusa's fight. Originally Falco and Wolf (who is not in the final group to storm the palace) would assist the royal bodyguards in order to save Fox (who doesn't show up until Medusa is defeated). This was changed to the royal bodyguards fighting only because Medusa is their enemy. Medusa is also not supposed to come out as pitiful but adding that Kaguju and she might have had a relationship adds to this.
The battle to snap Pit out of Tabuu's control was originally going to be longer with only Ike trying to snap him out of it to further Ike/Pit but after I wrote how Ike failed to figure out what Amail meant, I realized that perhaps this would show that Ike isn't as smart as he thinks he is. Sonic overall is the one who technically helped Pit and Valerie getting too close to Pit was never my intention. Of course my headcanon was that Valerie has a crush on the captain (which has to be changed in Divinius to avoid copyright) so he's acting out on his feelings hence Ike's annoyance but nothing will come of it given Valerie swearing to never fall in love and be happy. Pit is too important to him though and Pit has a soft spot for Valerie given they both have tragic backstories.
The final battle with Ike and Li was also shorter to show how broken Li is over everything he had learned. Kaguju also would never have interfered in the original idea and would have never assisted in Palutena teleporting him to Subspace. The original idea was that the final battle would be in the very palace where Pit and Li were fought. This was changed because I wanted to connect the door in Subspace and the dark side of the Smash Brothers Mansion instead of fighting in a cramped area like Palutena's palace. Li also would still have his body but it made more sense on how he clung to Roy's half breed body instead because of the misconception Li has about taking people over. Isaak allows him inside him but this is for a short period of time before Palutena takes his soul.
The final battle with Tabuu went completely different. It was always my intention for Palutena to get the last hit on him but never a full fleshed battle against Tabuu with her Smash Brothers 4 moves for obvious reasons. Since the original battle was supposed to be in her palace, the characters who would fight Tabuu originally were Pit, Ike, Sonic and Li. In the original version with Li's final battle, Tabuu would attempt to murder Dark Pit after he had lost as punishment but Isaak would have taken the blow and nearly died on the spot. The way it is written now though is that Isaak still took the blow being distracted by saving Li's soul. Also because Roger told Isaak to live, I didn't want Isaak to die making Roger's death pointless. Additionally during the final battle, Li would attempt to drag Tabuu down to hell at one point thus killing Tabuu but the royal bodyguards would create a chain that would prevent Li from falling thus proving the royal bodyguards being a family who would fall with him. They were kept out of the final battle not only by having their summons taken away but by Palutena considering the damage Tabuu would do to her angels and sending him back into Subspace knowing he was at full strength there and finish him off.
Adding Marth and Fox to the final battle only came about because in Brawl, you chose six fighters against Tabuu. The order would be Marth, Fox, Sonic, Ike, Pit and then finally Palutena. Li double teamed with Pit just like he does in Uprising when taking on the Chaos Kin (and is a shout out to that battle in particular). Tabuu's attacks at first started off as his own but realized that if he has powers based on the summons and the Chaos Emeralds, might as well use that hence why a lot of his abilities against Pit come out of his ass. Palutena was originally going to one-shot Tabuu after Pit and Li were killed but I decided to show her a brutal side of Palutena that no one will see given everyone kind of dead at this point.
9. Tabuu was originally going to be killed either by Li's black hole or Palutena just finishing him off right there. I have him captured and executed off screen. If he comes back in Smash Brothers, it will be a weaker version of him because this way, the angels have done their job. Rosalina would have also stayed out period but I made her do the teleporting because she's officially in Smash Brothers (funny how much I predicted in this story based on how important the character was).
10. The Golden Land…oh boy…I have stated multiple times that Kid Icarus, Disgaea and Queen's Blade take place in the same universe. This logic means the Golden Land is the highest being. Tabuu was NEVER part of them originally and I decided on it at the last minute because Tabuu has the butterfly motif just like the Golden Land does and his butterfly attack is the most dangerous attack. His isolation and wanting to destroy childish figures stems from the Golden Land being filled with nothing but children. Raven's appearance in the updated version is a hint at who is really in control of the situation. Plus it's a justification on how the Smashers can be brought back to life when Palutena doesn't seem to have that power. Compared to other stories, this is incredibly subtle. Zelina has told me this is one of my biggest flaw in insisting on forcing the Golden Land into any story as the highest being controlling the situation (along with too many OC characters to keep up with and no chart to keep track of who is who as many are scattered throughout the internet. The witches/sorcerers are on my main Fanfiction profile along with the royal bodyguards while the Angel Assembly and archangels have their profiles on the Divinius page on Tumblr). At the end of the day, the Golden Land in this story is more of a deus ex machina in terms of reviving the characters right off the bat because Palutena is too weak to do it and serves as the final straw in Tabuu's villainous breakdown. Again though, Raven being there is a hint that they had an idea what was going on.
11. The term of Amail. Originally it was as Li describe it but I changed it to a metaphor within the three years. To me, it made more sense for Li to not understand the term and for Ike to assume that it meant he had blood of multiple beings like Soren (thus the conflict of Ike not understanding why Pit is so angry at the idea of being an Amail). Amail now is just a word for child by rape and the only two characters who have that term slapped on them are Pit and Saber. Kaguju already had this term but since his entire backstory was changed, it no longer applies to him and Li refers to himself as such without the full understanding of the term.
12. More of a minor thing but it has to deal with the term "yaoi". Brought up constantly is how I slapped the yaoi label but upon reading the story, there is no sex going on between the characters on screen except Red and Blue (and they're played up for comedy purposes). I had wanted to put sex scenes but if it doesn't add to the story, I left it out altogether. Plus this was before I noticed there was a difference between the term shonen ai (boy love) and yaoi (sex between two men). If I throw a lot of yaoi pairings, I'm just pairing them up rather than them being in a relationship. And the story I felt was more about the mystery surrounding Pit's past, the Smashers going missing and how this will affect the Smashers.
13. Another minor thing is research on franchises. When I started this franchise, I did no research on any character and based it off of what was on the trophies in Brawl. I knew enough about Ike, Ash and Sonic to make them the main characters. Pit was just taking the first game and expanding on Pit. Everyone else is just how I interpreted them hence why another big regret is calling Link an elf. That is a huge NO in the Zelda fandom. I think later chapters I use the correct term though (and how my fondness for Ganondorf increased). I watched the entire Mother 3 play through to get the nightmare scene in chapter 42 with Lucas. I asked one of my friends to give me an entire list of Isaac's backstory and move set for chapter 40. I did research on Metroid and Metal Gear Solid to understand Samus and Snake. When I played Shadow Dragon was when I decided to give Marth the Fire Emblem. Falco and Fox's relationship only came up after playing Star Fox Adventure and seeing how Fox is kind of lost without Falco. Shinon being an angel? LOL that's a spoiler for my Fire Emblem Radiant Future story. Since I might never finish that story, I might as well spoil it here on why Shinon is so important to the story, but it really comes down to the detail of the characters. Fire Emblem, Sonic and Pokémon have the most detail descriptions in their franchise with others being a backside unless important to that chapter. This extends to Kid Icarus bosses too. Originally, they weren't going to have any personality but Hewdraw and Pandora were based on their Uprising counterpart rather than the original game. Thanatos is the only Kid Icarus boss not in this story because he's an actual God therefore does not need to interfere twice. Pandora killing Toon Link is rather brutal given how funny she is but then again, everyone in Uprising casually mentions death and murder while still being the peanut gallery. One more short note about Ash/Red. Because Charizard was confirmed as the returning character, this effectively removes Ash from the roster. I was lucky to have an excuse…just not a kind one. Ash's injuries were not serious originally but seeing as how this could cripple him in the future, I used that as the reason he can't be in the next Smash. All he can do is watch from the sidelines and that is a slap in the face for the Pokémon Trainer.
14. The ending…well as mentioned above it was going to end with characters I wished would be in the game rather than just putting characters confirmed for Smash Brothers. Ike/Pit and Ike/Soren is still going strong even at the end of the story because of how Radiant Dawn occurred and Soren had three years to get what he lost with Ike while Pit has Uprising happen and he meets Magnus. If there is a sequel, there will be conflict especially since Magnus is confirmed as an assist and he is an expy of Ike.
This is the end. I thank all my readers for sticking with me for six years until the next Smash Brothers came out. This was cutting it way too close but I'm glad I finished this. It was a wild ride and I didn't know how it would end. Even when I fell out of the fandom constantly or faced hardship, I'm glad that this story is still out there (just not in its former glory as when it first came out). I apologize for having my readers wait years for updates and get an update every couple of months when it only takes 3 days to finish a chapter when I put my mind to it and my index finger isn't killing me). Anyway review and give an honest opinion and rating of the entire story. Would like a sequel or little one-shots of what happens afterward? New pairings to suggest? A new plot? Just write it all down on what you think.
As Pepper Padoga of the royal bodyguards, I am signing out. Thank you again.
