Bathtime!

By Doll Girl

Dave checked the water in the bathroom sink before he called the boys in for their baths. An unspoken agreement had come up between the boys as to who would be first to get the bath.

Alvin hopped in and on the counter where he took off his sweatshirt. He jumped in the sink and got all wet.

Dave used a soft cloth full of special animal shampoo and began rubbing his son.

Alvin let out an involuntary, happy purr. He and his brothers loved this one on one with their Dad.

"So what's on that has your attention so much?" Dave asked.

Alvin looked up at him. "We were just flipping through when we found this show that had a whole bunch of animals and humans doing silly things."

Dave smiled. "Oh yeah? What channel?"

"Um Animal Planet I think," Alvin said. He giggled. "One thing they showed was this squirrel causing trouble at a kids birthday party."

"Sounds like you."

Alvin grinned. "It did remind me of the day we met you."

Dave laughed warmly. He gently rubbed Alvin's back. Just as he knew it would, the massage made Alvin sleepy. "Ok , let's rinse you off." He ran the water faucet and watched Alvin step under real quick and get all the soap off.

Alvin then jumped onto the awaiting towel and picked up a washcloth. He dried himself off and put his sweatshirt back on. He left and Simon came in.

Simon did the same thing and took off his glasses. He slid in the sink and giggled. He got under the faucet and let the water soak him.

Dave began to wash him. "Animal planet huh?"

Simon grinned at him. "Well of course!"

Dave chuckled. "Hey I saw you reading my old science book. Anything interesting in there?"

Simon nodded. "It's really cool. To me anyway."

"You always did love to learn. That's not a bad thing. Think you can rub off on your brothers some?"

Simon laughed. "I try but they don't listen to me. You know that."

"Yeah well don't take it personally. Alvin barely listens to me."

The chipmunk just smiled. "Oh I don't. That chipmunk has always been "too big for his britches" as humans say." Simon yawned sleepily. "Theodore just doesn't know any better."

Dave smiled softly as he watched Simon rinse off and do the same thing Alvin had done. He went out and Theodore ran in.

Theodore purred to his hearts' content during the bath. He giggled when Dave tickled him on his tummy.

"Alvin was telling me about the silly show you're watching."

Theodore nodded. "It's called 'Planet's Funniest Animals'."

Dave nodded. "I thought so."

After they were done Theodore yawned and dried off. He put his sweater back on and went back to the couch.

Dave finished cleaning up the bathroom sink and then went into the living room where he found all three of them asleep snuggled up to each other.

Dave leaned on the backrest of the couch and wondered, not for the first time, how he had gotten so lucky. He reached down and gently touched each one.

They're family was small and very unconventional but they had plenty of love.
