A/n- Switching topics AGAIN, this one's a drabble-ish oneshot. Again, Nejiten, my love. (I really need a life instead of ruining theirs. XD) I personally like Dancing, Flying better, but what the heck. I was bored. Enjoy!
Disclaimer- I do not own anything, including the song lyrics at the bottom.
Tenten did the impossible every day.
When she jumped, she didn't just jump.
She flew.
For a brief moment, she defied gravity, suspended between Earth and sky.
Nothing could bring her down. Not weapons, not jutsus, not brute force, not even a command by Gai or Neji or Lee.
She stayed as long as she wanted, free as a bird.
Nobody could figure out how she did it, either.
It wasn't speed, or momentum, or weight, or jutsus.
It was simply where she belonged.
Everyone knew that she lived and breathed for flight, for the skies, for the magic and joy of the pristine air filling up her lungs and carrying away troubles.
She truly was heavenly, just as her name suggested.
And she never really left the sky. Ever.
When on the grounds, she was happy, but unsatisfied. Earthly troubles and worries and expectations clipped her invisible wings, weighing her down and making her feel crowded and helpless.
She always looked up longingly, watching the clouds and the leaves on the wind, up in the place she truly felt alive.
She loved helping everything else find their place in the sky, and everyone else helped her.
It was she who first rescued the butterflies from the spiderwebs, Choji following her lead because he knew he was forever the butterfly in the cocoon, seeing the ground instead of the sky.
She found the wounded birds and brought them to Sakura, watching from afar as they were healed and set free with wings intact, sadly knowing that Sakura healed them not because it was practice or because she asked her to or even because she had a kind heart, but because she was a flower, forever rooted to the earth by people who dragged her down with them, never to know true flight.
She watched them, her friends, only watch her as she flew, not even trying to follow her into the real of freedom.
One person, though, she didn't just watch with syumpathy: Neji. She could see it in his eyes, his want, need, for flight, for the freedom of the heavens.
It took a long time to convince him he could fly, though.
It started in the fight against Naruto, when he learned that nobody was truly forever captive by fate- or gravity.
That was when he realized he could get out of his cage.
When he admitted to Lee that Tenten truly could fly, he found the key to his cage.
When Tenten reached out to him, told him to go skydiving and taste sky, she offered him the key to his cage.
When he hesitantly said yes and followed her, he took the key.
When he stood at the top of the cliff with Tenten by his side, he put the key into the keyhole and debated whether to push out of what was familiar or not to, danger or unhappiness.
He chose danger when he jumped with her.
And holding onto Tenten's hand, he didn't fall.
He flew, suspended betweent the realms of the stars and of the people, truly exhilirated and alive and free.
When Tenten direted them back to the cliffside, he was excited, not scared. He turned to Tenten with his eyes shining, just like hers, and knew he was forever free, just like her.
And she had laughed when he asked to do it again.
They both knew they would fall, but they also knew they would always have each other to help them rise back up.
After all...
Even angels fall.
You will fly and you will crawl
God knows even angels fall
No such thing as you've lost it all
God knows even angels fall
My gosh, I'm drowning in sappiness. This is weirder than anything else I've ever written in my freaking whole life. Hope you enjoy. XD
Song at the end is "Even Angels Fall" by Jessica Riddle. I suggest you go listen to it, it's really beautiful.
