Nightlight
"Neji?"
"Tenten, go to sleep," the Byakugan user groaned and threw his covers over his head.
"But-," she started.
"We have a mission tomorrow Tenten, please let me rest." Defeated, Tenten pulled her blankets closer to her and shut her eyes tightly.
This was all Lee's fault, she concluded. He had invited Neji and her to his house the night before their next mission. The exuberant youth had wanted to watch a movie and relax prior to leaving, but Tenten had never expected to be watching a horror movie! Who even watches horror movies to relax?!
And to add to her delight, the electricity went out 10 minutes before the movie ended! So now she was stuck in the house of the green beast of Konoha with no lights and a thunderstorm outside. Did she mention that she was also sharing the guest room with Hyuuga Neji? Separate beds of course but just as nerve wracking, even if he was her boyfriend, or something of the sort.
Tenten had wanted to leave to the safety and comfort of her own room, but Lee, being Lee, insisted that they stay for the night. It was dark in the house, making Tenten wish she had a flashlight or even a nightlight.
Tenten stared out the window and gasped when she saw lightening flash followed by the loud boom of thunder. The short gap between the two indicated that it mustn't have occurred too many miles away.
Why as this so similar to that stupid movie? Tenten shifted further under the covers with a kunai gripped tightly in her hand.
Quietly, she observed the window, listening to the pitter patter of rain hitting the window. She waited for the next thunderclap to occur but none came for a long while. The Weapon Mistress was just about to relax when a loud boom made her jump. Tenten looked outside the window to see the tree across the tree catch on fire.
Now clearly spooked, she squeaked and hid her head under the warm blanket. Shaking, she curled up on her side and covered her ears. Normally, she wouldn't be this afraid, but with all the elements coming together, she was just overwhelmed.
From behind, she heard a soft creek of the bed followed by padding feet. Her bed dipped a bit as more weight was added and a warm body pressed close to her back.
"N-Neji?" she said questioningly when a pair of arms slid around her waist and pulled her closer.
"Go to sleep, I said," Neji answered softly. Tenten turned around and looked up into his eyes. The pearly opal colour reflected off the light from the window, reminding Tenten of a cat. They were all the light that Tenten needed.
"Thank you," she whispered back and settled her head against his chest.
Neji stayed awake listening to the sound of her breathing and tried to fall asleep again.
'Well at least one of us will wake up tomorrow morning,' he thought.
