Nightmares
I don't own Tin Man, obviously. Umm, yeah, Enjoy!
Even months later, Cain's still waking up with nightmares. Every night, in fact. They vary, from things about the day Zero came to his house, to things discovered while on the quest for the emerald, to thoughts of Zero's demise, to… well, it all haunts him.
He doesn't think any one knows, though. When he wakes up from them, a sheen of sweat covering his body and the images still overwhelmingly fresh in his mind, he drags himself out of bed and over to the window in the room he's been given in the castle with the royal family.
Tonight's episode was especially gruesome. One he's had far more often than he would like. This one is from the quest, about Glitch. At least he thinks it's from the quest, anyway, it seems like it. In it, he is being held back, helpless to save his friend from the MoBats attacking him. Just like he was helpless to save his wife and son they day they stuffed him in that damned suit. He watches, and Glitch dies. It's the worst.
He looks back across the room to the bed where Glitch was, but no longer is. He reaches for his gun, the post dream paranoia combined with his missing bedmate doing nothing to ease his mind. "Glitch?" He whispers, surprised when arms wrap around him and feels the cold metal of the other man's zippered head press against his shoulder.
"Nightmare?" The still half-brained man asks, voice laced with sleep.
Cain's heart has warmed up to Glitch quickly; the two of them have been pretty much inseparable since the whole incident at the Northern Island. Their jobs require separation occasionally, though. Glitch has been reinstated as the advisor for the Queen, as well as for DG, or rather the brain he decided he didn't want back is, and Cain has been promoted to the head Tin Man, though his son carries out most of the jobs requirements.
He just nods. "Yeah." Cain stands, arms wrapped around the other man. "Let's just go back to bed. It's not real."
Glitch follows eagerly, curling up beside him under the warm blankets.
At least he hopes it's not real.
He really would be heartless if he lost Glitch.
